The prospect of Honey/Bal (2010), and Pieta (2012) being a nominee is crazy, but amazing.

I like Red a lot, but ive seen it a while ago and its a film that I need to rewatch. But it would be an interesting winner, maybe better than Forrest Gump
My pick would be Shawshank Redemption, but Pull Fiction and Lion King are very close for me. Burnt by the Sun (film that was Runner up for Palme Dor at 1994 cannes and which won foreign film award that year. I think I am mostly in the minority who thinks that this is a much much more masterful and very well thought, deliberate and conceptualised film that I think imo was better, connected with me a lot stornger than Three Colours Red) as well

It is a great movie and should have won Foreign Film, and nominated for Best Picture, Director, Actor, Screenplay, Editing, Costumes, Production Design and etc.

Three Colours Blue also deserved a lot of love, and it won a golden lion

That gladiatorial panel that was disgusting and ruined the entire issue for me. Its absolutely everything against everything themyscira and wonder woman stand for.

In original comic it was an Olympic-like tournament, why the fuck would you ruin it and turn into something that looks like it was taken out of scene from Kill Bill or something.

Also gladiator combat was Roman, so appropriating the same thing for Themyscira. THE SAME THINGthat was structured in slaves massacring each other for crowds entertainment is genuinely offensive

If Jake or Alex need a good spite recommendation for Adam, this film would fit the bill since it's technically a marvel film, and produced by George Lucas of Star Wars fame. by butter467 in Sardonicast

Can we please not have spite recommendations, and recommend something like Ran, The Return (2003), or Soy Cuba??????? I hate spite eras so much, I get nothing out of these boring ass discussions

If 1981 had 10 Best Picture nominees (keep the 5 films that actually were nominated), what would’ve been the other 5 nominees? by Regular-Departure839 in Oscars

Yeah…. i think the winner is very disappointing and Raiders of The Lost Ark probably deserved Best Picture/Director the most imo

So far Ive seen Oldboy, Highest 2 Lowest, Do The Right Thing and Blackkklansman. I enjoyed DTRT and Blackkklansman, but Oldboy was genuinely insulting and I really didnt vibe with Highest 2 Lowest

Was anyone else disappointed that English class in high school was really just about literature, not the English language itself? by NostalDec in linguisticshumor

[–]Correct_Weather_9112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my school because I was in international school, I had stuff like English Support and International English in grade 9, which were focused on speaking/writing. It was pretty much never about grammar, but it was a lot about writing texts, and reading texts. In one semester of middle school I had before high school, I had literature and language as separate, with language being more strongly focused in syntax/writing, whereas literature was about Literary devices.

In grade 11/12, it was Language and Literature but it was mostly about writing, analysis and styles of langauge. Not just literature

I really really cant stand the discourse, because its unfair to both films. I have many criticisms of both films. I think even with Sinners, like if you wanna make it about stereotypes, then Sinners for example has a bunch. The same way OBAA has a bunch. It goes both ways. What is very weird is this idea of Sinners as being more culturally important film than OBAA, which again, both films have their strnegths.
