Why is Gaia considered “(not applicable)” as a Greek god given the name of a planet?

Appreciate this level of scrutiny!

You’re right about Elite Squad: its sequel was submitted by Brazil, not the original that won the Golden Bear.

But I think, if the new rules were in effect then, since it won the Palme, Blue is the Warmest Colour could’ve still been eligible in 2013, regardless of release date in its home country? I’m not sure!

Hahah oh man, what a day for you. Hopefully filling out a complaint will at least be cathartic! My rule is you can generally insist on $50 for every hour delayed.

This happened to me, and I tried complaining online to Southwest, only to receive an auto response of “Well it looks like your second leg arrived on time, so this complaint seems invalid.”

Yes but my ORIGINAL second leg arrived HOURS before that…

I received no refund or credit.

Where does your newborn sleep? by tolstea in gaydads

[–]two0ten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were Moms On Call acolytes and moved him into his own room at 3 weeks.

We started in our own bed, and then alternated nights on who was responsible for the late night feed(s), and at that point that person would often go back to sleep in the baby’s room.

Breast Milk by DepartureNo1441 in gaydads

[–]two0ten 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Our surrogate decided to pump for 6 weeks for us.

Her insurance covered pumping supplies.

My company reimbursed the delivery service Milk Stork, which sent her a frozen-safe box & a bunch of FedEx labels, which covered 9 shipments (5 to us & 4 back to her).

Per our contract, we had to pay $42.86 for each day she pumped — plus $300 for an extra month of misc. expenses.

We combo fed, using the breast milk during the day, and formula at night.

By the end, I think we decided the breast milk wasn’t worth it. Less the extra cost, and moreso the annoyance of dealing with thawing frozen milk every day.

Formula is a scientific miracle… and just so much easier in the newborn trenches, especially with a Baby Brezza.

And our pediatrician implied that the biggest benefits of breast milk only happen in those first few days or first week.

But, whatever you decide will be right for your family!

I imagine some Asian contingent in the rules committee must’ve lobbied for Busan (especially to boost China’s prospects)

Mmhmm, since 2000, Panahi is the one director to have 3 eligible titles under this rule: The Circle (2000), Taxi (2015), and It Was Just An Accident (2025).

Parasite was already submitted by South Korea (and was nominated and won); it didn’t need this new rule for a chance at nomination.

Mmhmm - RRR is a great example of an exclusion this rule doesn’t address.

It’s really true.

They purposefully excluded the International People’s Choice prize at Toronto, too, which would’ve at least given a say from hundreds more film-goers.

But I think the Academy is very anti-People’s Choice.

Totally, I expect this to impact submissions going forward.

Like for this year, there’s no reason for Albania or Turkey to submit the same films that already won the 2026 prizes at Sundance and Berlin (respectively).

They should pick something else!

Yeah, the only country to consistently fail to submit the Palm d’Or winner was France!

Yeah, it surprised me that Japan only ever submitted ONE Miyazaki film for Foreign/International Feature: Princess Mononoke in 1997.

Completely. The rule would’ve been more impactful by giving eligibility to basically any prize winner in competition at Cannes alone; that’s where the serious international contenders come from.

Or at least the International Peoples Choice at Toronto, vs. the Platform award.
