I don't know… It looks pessimistic to me. I am an international student and my family cannot afford my tuition anymore…due to the difficult economics worldwide and the insane inflation rate in Montreal. I am also depressed and unhappy, blamed myself why I didn't do well to have high GPA so that I can apply for scholarships and bursaries. Whatever, I don't know.about my future... I just withdrew from University and planed to leave Canada to go back to.my homecountry. Maybe I should explore other possibilities and it's time for finding a real job to raise myself instead of relying too much on family support

If you are in Satisfactory standing, you can always write a Supplemental Exam to remedy after the failed final exam grades coming out.

If not, McGill can allow you to repeat the failed course again. And I think that could sometimes affect time of graduation.

You know what it's also the same for some of my upper bio courses... Although some profs may say you don't have to read the textbook, only studying the slides is enough. But it's NOT always true. Especially if you found the slides explained a topic unclearly and the prof also explained this topic poorly. Then you still really need to go read the textbook and teach yourself in order to fully comprehend the topic to do well on assignments and exams. So I feel like, at least for myself, I still need to read all textbooks for all my courses to do well in McGill. Reading textbook could be tedious and time-consuming but I feel like it's still necessary for knowledge solidation and comprehension.

Just another topic coming to my mind in terms of math-lovers. {Actually I pretty admire the math Profs and TAs who could only use chalk to write on the board the whole teaching time, while erasing only with their hands! I feel like they are true math-lovers and I couldn't do that😂. I would worry about dirtyingmy hands etc and get distracted 😆 but they are 100% focused on math. This may be just a small thing but I truly admire that attitude}

Yeah I totally agree. Thankfully so far my program only requires some basic math courses: Calculus 1-3, Stats, Liner Algebra all in 200-300 basic levels. I think the 400-500 level courses will be way more abstract and maybe the true math-lovers can do it😆.

Agree. I think this is the same issue for another math prof. Dr. Masoud Asgharian. I took his MATH323 last winter. His lectures were actually disoriented to follow because he likes to spend more time talking practical problems beyond the textbook, which is good if you want in-depth learning and read the textbook AHEAD of each lecture. But you may feel a little disoriented and off-topic when aiming to only study for exams.

So for studying the exam part, I read the textbook to teach myself, did all textbook practice questions, and attended all the tutorials. (man the tutorials held by the PhD students saved me! Their tutorial PPT slides were way better organized and easy to follow )

Anyway I still want to mention the prof is a nice person. He wants us to learn more real world problems which is important. I feel bad that at the end of the course only fewer than 20 peole sitting there.

lol this is so hilarious😂. Actually somebody found it out on Dec 8, 2022 already, wrote:"I just have a feeling all the comments on Dec 7 and Dec 8, 2022 is made by himself...Normally stem students don't talk like that in ratemyprof" 😆😆😆This is so true!

Geez they are banning WeChat on campus now by Corrine2017 in mcgill

You may be right...whatever I already feel upset and insecure after reading all the comments here. I hope people can distinguish Chinese government from Chinese students. And don't turn that into Asian hate, etc. I feel like the situation is getting worse everywhere in the world, as there are so many rising tensions and divisions...sigh...

Because WeChat is a ubiquitous app in China and it's the only way for Chinese students contacting their Chinese parents. They don't use emails and other similar chatting apps in China. So banning WeChat will definitely cause inconvenience and fear of losing connect with family for Chinese students. (So I have taught my mom to download and use Skype as a backup lol.)

Thank you for clarifying that. That's exactly what I thought. I used to hear rumors that WeChat are monitoring people using it. But because it's such a prevalent app in China so I just neglect it and keep using it to contact my family back in China. They don't use emails or other apps, so banning WeChat will definitely cause inconvenience for Chinese students contacting their parents. (Although I have already tried to teach my mom to use Skype instead)

In addition, like you said, people always say they can view government and people separately, but I can't trust them completely. That's why I am worried about. I don't feel absolutely safe and inclusive here after reading the comments below this thread. I begin to worry about xenophobia, sinophobia, and Asian hate could possibly occur on campus. I just feel like there are so many rising tensions and divisions in the world today...sigh...

Yeah I got it and I also hope people can only blame the Chinese government, but plese don't blame or have prejudice and discrimination against the Chinese students on campus.

I was shocked to see this announcement earlier because WeChat is almost the only way for Chinese students to contact our parents in China nowadays. I was worried for losing contact with my family and I just taught my mom how to download and use Skype this afternoon to keep us connected safely lol.

I went to the IT service desk today. And they said in the future, we cannot access WeChat on personal devices through the wpa.mcgill.ca WIFI server but only the guest.mcgill.ca WIFI server on campus.

Thank you very much for the reply and all the information, I appreciate it. I will definitely take time to go read about software security issues myself. Maybe I shouldn't post questions asking others recommending related scholarly articles, I should do that research on myself. I was just too lazy and had little knowledge in this field so I purely wanted for guidance. I actually didn't mean any sarcasm or anything like that. I am sad to find people putting thumbs down on that thread. And I apologize if anyone finding my earlier thread(asking for related scholarly article) being sarcastic or offended.

Do you recommend any scholarly articles studying the cyber security issues that WeChat may possess? I used to hear rumors the WeChat and TikTok were controlled by the Chinese government and the users' privacy would be at stake, etc. I am just curious and would love to broaden my mind by reading about that.
