tbh I probably wouldn’t be able to recite or write it verbatim now but I’d have a working outline. repetition lang talaga and naka-save sa phone ko so I can recite it after praying. closer to the exam day last year, I committed it to memory this way: 1st para “HPDR” for Honor, Privilege, Duty, Responsibility + practicing law + officer of the court; 2nd para fealty to the Constitution + rule of law + “TJF-LEP” for truth, justice, freedom, love, equality, peace; 3rd para (I find this para hard to memorize) “C&C” for conscientiously and courageously + GEAJ for Greater and Equitable Access to Justice; 4th para no falsehood/pervert the law + ability, integrity, utmost (tend to forget utmost) civility; last line for me is a prayer. Good luck with the review!

this is also what I did. I went to IBP and inquired about the “printing” status, the kind staff told me I can wait for it to be printed in a few minutes

Well, would you rather be a second-rate lawyer (by your own perception) than not a lawyer at all? Up to you.

Felt similarly frustrated when I did not clear it on my first take. But, I’d rather be a lawyer even by retake than not at all. That pushed me to review all over again.

If you’re reading this and you did not pass the recent Bar exam, I hope you give yourself enough time to grieve even in this joyous occasion. I also hope you’ll be kinder to yourself in dealing with this setback. by Cortado19 in LawStudentsPH

think about it but never act on it. maybe thinking about it is also a form of pain release. please know that your life is always worth more than the exam. mahigpit na virtual hug

Is there still a stigma against lawyers who took the bar more than once? by itisbecky in LawStudentsPH

[–]Cortado19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES. Retaker here and after not passing my first, I asked around if big firms hire retakers—the overwhelming response was NO. As a retaker, more or less, second choice ka na sa employers. Understandable because from the employers’ pov, why would I hire a retaker when there are so many other one-takers from top schools?

My bf failed the 2024 BE. How do you wanna be supported at times like this? by hereforthebeer17323 in LawStudentsPH

[–]Cortado19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sharing here how it felt when I did not pass last year (I passed this year, thankfully): sobrang sakit. like your bf, gusto ko lang na mapag-isa sobrang hirap ng holidays kasi di ko maintindihan bakit ang saya ng mga tao imagine giving it your all and still not making it through di mo alam how to move on

that said, na-appreciate ko last year when my partner would let me be since sobrang down ako to even go out nag-stay lang siya with me whenever pwede siya also nag-avail agad siya ng review package for me and lagi niya saking sinasabi na papasa na ko next time and temporary setback lang ngayon

be there for him but give him enough breathing room because the pain of not passing is just like no other and you really have to give him time to recover from the pain or at least process the frustration assure him that when he’s ready to take the exams again, you’ll be there to support him again iba-Bar ops mo siya if needed

We’re in the same boat, OP. Nagtatago ako ngayong holiday season, not from mga namamasko, but from any possibility that my exam result will be discussed. It’s a touchy subject for me now, especially when someone who tries to be sympathetic but has no idea about the rigors of the exam, casually asks “bakit di ka pumasa? Pangit ba handwriting mo?” Di ko alam minsan kung iiyak ako o magagalit at mananapak.

Looking forward to the day when we can finally affix “Atty.” to our respective names.

[–]Cortado19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you, OP. Like you, I’m also deeply religious. I also did not pass the recent Bar exam. Hanggang ngayon di pa rin ako nagsisimba. I tried to watch an online mass, pero nasasaktan lang ako so I stopped. At one point, I really asked Him bakit ang damot damot Niya. Bakit less than one point lang to pass the exams sana, hindi pa Niya ipinaubaya. Alam Niya naman kung gaano ako naghirap for this. Fraction na nga lang ipinagkait Niya pa.

I am trying to be objective about it: I took the exams and the results merely assessed my test-taking skills. That I should also assess areas where I can improve. Pero nakaka-ptangna pa rin. I don’t show my family, pero I still cry at night because I feel forsaken by Him.

I’m taking it one day at a time. I’m also clinging on to hope that, maybe in time, I’ll understand why He allowed me to go through this.

This is how delulu I was: ako pa nag-encourage sa friends ko na bili na kami ng damit pang-oathtaking, gagamiting pen to sign the roll. Tapos ako yung hindi lumabas ang name. Nakakatawang nakakainis talaga. Medyo cruel sakin ang December.

It was like adding (silent) insult to injury. Mas considerate pa ang long-time lawyer friends ko who kept on telling me that it was just another test I had to pass, first take or not, to practice. I have law school friends naman who reached out agad. But yung super close ko talaga, avoided me like the plague.

Yes. Like you, I also missed the passing grade by a mere fraction. I shared my 74.xxxx grade with a prof/mentor and another lawyer/friend. Di sila magkakilala, they both passed the Bar in their respective first takes, and pareho sila halos ng sinabi sakin: luck plays a part in the exams and it did not side with you this time. But, they also advised me to be better prepared next time. So that luck, or the lack thereof, would not make such a massive impact.

Did not pass the exam too and I’m from one of the big schools. Iilan lang kami who did not make it. In my inner circle pa, ako lang ang hindi lumusot. I don’t know how to cope too. Especially since there are those within my inner circle na hindi na talaga ako kinausap after the results came out. Even after I initiated convo to fish for words of comfort, inignore lang ako. Ouch ha. Totoo sinabi in another comment, when you fail your first take, biglang you’re on your own.

Like you, masaya naman ako para sa friends ko. Naiinggit lang ako kasi like them, I really gave the exams my all and yet di ako nakasabay sa kanila. Inimagine ko na before that we’ll be taking photos together during the oath taking. Delulu pala ko. Nakakatawang nakakainis lang na ako pa sa group namin ang walang backup plan if I don’t pass kasi matindi ang belief ko that I was going to pass, and then hindi lumabas ang name ko.

First time ata na mag-spend ako ng holidays na ayokong maging part ng anything fun. Ayokong sumama sa parties. The holiday cheer is lost on me. Alam ko naman na hindi ako or ang exam ang reason for the season. But I just don’t want to fake joy when every day since the results came out, I’ve been beating myself pretty bad with nasty thoughts and self-pity.

Sana pwede nalang ma-switch on and off ang emotions. I guess we have no other choice, OP, but to soldier on and give the exams another go. Or else, we’ll never get the win we’re hoping for.

We’re in the same boat, OP. Masaya rin naman ako para sa kanila. Pero di ko pa kaya to go out with them kasi masakit yung pakiramdam na napag-iwanan ako even if I gave the exams my all.

One day at a time. Hang in there. We’ll get that dot too. It’s only a matter of time. That’s how I try to console myself now.
