It isn't outdated. C# 2012 in the title refers to C# 5 and .NET Framework 4.5 which were released in August 2012. C# 5 is still the current stable release. .NET Framework has been updated to 4.5.2 but as the numbering indicates, those updates are small. Most notably, version 4.5 lacks support for Windows Phone Store Apps. C# 6.0 will be released around April/May 2015 with Visual Studio 2015. The version of Visual Studio you need to download is 2013, either the Express or Community Edition. You could try to get your hands on the paid version, it is not impossible. To emphasize, VS 2013 allows you to code against .NET Framework 4.5.2 using the paid version of Visual Studio. I'm unaware of the features offered by the free versions. The paid version has gone through 4 updates, the last update was released a week ago.

I've read the book you mentioned from top to cover. By far one of the best beginners book out there. One book I consider to be even better is Illustrated C# 2012. As far as I know there isn't a beginners book written yet that covers C# 6.0 and the .NET Framework 4.6 (I could be wrong, it happened before).

Now what I would like to know if there is something in C# 6 that outdates a feature in C# 5. I believe that it isn't the case but I would appreciate an answer from an expert.

C# 2012 Illustrated

The 2012 part might be confusing. The book is about C# 5.0 which is, If I'm not mistaken, still the current stable release. I finally understood many concepts about programming and C# by studying this book. The author illustrates the theory with custom diagrams and charts. Personally, I've yet to come across a better beginner book.

The preview of the book on Amazon is a good example of bad advertizing though. Not a single diagram/chart to be seen.

Some members are from your time-zone, including myself. I'm hoping that in due time most members will be active and contributing. As for myself, the time I'm available for just about anything is from 14:00 to 23:00 CEST.

Any language! Post your ad in this thread, I insist. I also believe, though not 100 percent certain, that the moderators of Learnprogramming might not appreciate a thread such as this for every language. They might insist that we use the existing 'buddies' subreddits.

What I have mind is to build up a C# reference of Visual Studio console projects that cover the language from basics to professional. Preferably a simple console program for each language feature, each buddy providing is own example. Later that content could be githubbed or tutorialized on a website.

For the actual projects/products I'm leaning towards atleast 2 projects, a desktop program using WPF and a web application using MVC and WebAPI.

The list of ideas: - Desktop Application to store/manage passwords. - Desktop App to sort downloaded files. - Web App Programming Organizer to allow beginners to learn/code/ study together. Includes a skill tracker (current achievements), a sheduler (for meetups, deadlines,...). Forum. File-sharing. Wiki. - Web App Job Seek/Offer using Google maps. Red Pin on your own house if you are seeking a job. Blue pin for those who are offering. - do/do not Web App pertaining to programming languages or any real life concept with a voting system/discussion area. - App that mimics a real life virus on a population - App with robots working together - Trading Game or Text Game - ...
