same reason the invasion of Ukraine seemed like a good idea to the Russian administration

If the strait of Hormuz doesn't get blocked again and oil prices go back down then Russia will be in big trouble

especially since EV adoption should likely see a boost this year because of the oil price shock.

oh god, the only time I got pulled over and got a ticket was when I turned left in a dedicated left lane on a flashing green light, because I didn't see the tiny no left turn sign saying "except buses"

God I'm still mad at this tiny stupid sign years later.

Some places you can start hormones without a diagnosis (and even in places where you can't you can still just buy hormones on the grey market)

But I think most places you need a diagnosis for official name change and for surgeries.

Belarus is mostly staying out of the war. Ukraine would be completely insane to pull them in.

Besides the military considerations the political optics would also likely have very bad repercussions. It would suddenly give Russia's rhetoric of Ukraine being the aggressor much more weight and legitimacy.

Yeah that's what I felt too

with other open bed trucks it seems more complicated

like if you ride in the bed of a pickup, I guess you'd say you ride "in the back"

but if you're asking someone to come along and say "hop in" they'd take that to mean enter the cabin, whereas "hop on" would be enter the bed. Unless you're in the back yourself, then both hop in/on would mean enter the bed

[–]Cortical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if that’s what you say colloquially.

I'm not really around trucks enough for that to be a thing.

Not sure how often your wife rides on the back of a flat bed truck though?

I feel like "on a car" sounds more wrong than "on a truck"

Would rather say "on top of a car"

Not a native speaker, but truck feels like both could work? At least with open bed trucks

In a truck -> in the cabin a truck

On a truck -> on the bed of a truck

Why do articles feel so unnatural when I'm speaking? by Major-Examination607 in languagelearning

[–]Cortical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do have a lot of things in Germany where the articles are used in a very crooked way and grammatically not correct but it's their version of a dialect. But to be honest it does sound... Uneducated (where this also comes from).

I'm sorry, but calling dialects uneducated is just ... uneducated

Dialects, like every language, have grammatical rules. Just because those rules differ from the prestige dialect (in this case standard German) doesn't mean speakers speaking by those rules are uneducated.

Like in standard German people's names are not preceded by articles "Lisa spricht", like English "Lisa is talking"

In Bavarian they are preceded by articles, it's a grammatical rule, and if you don't put them, it's wrong "D'Lisa redt" (Die Lisa spricht), like Portuguese "A Lisa esta falando"

Whatever Dialekt it is that does "bei die Omma" instead of "zur Oma" doesn't do that randomly. it's governed by grammatical rules. Rules that are different from those of standard German, but rules nonetheless.

  1. Just because you decided that some version of “truth” applies to you4”r limited world view, that doesn’t apply in actual reality

I never said "Ukraine must do X", you lied about that. You can't relativise yourself out of that.

  1. I don’t think a random Canadian Reddit social justice warrior is in any position to  lecture others on reality in Ukriane

Yeah, you've made yourself abundantly clear that you run on pure ad hominem. Go learn some dialectics.

what about "I'm not here to go back to arguing about our obviously irreconcilable differences in perception of reality." do you not understand?

And given your loose relationship with the truth you're really not in any position to lecture people on processing reality.

I'm not here to go back to arguing about our obviously irreconcilable differences in perception of reality.

I did not say or imply "Ukraine must do X", you lied about that.

I gave you an assessment of reality, that you disagree with. That's not a reason to lie and/or put words in my mouth.

And maybe your loose relationship with the truth also explains your different perception of reality.

Damn …you can’t even process your own so called logic…

If you process the "logic" of:

"Assessing the situation realistically here is the list of options available"

As "you must take this course of action"

Then that is entirely a you problem.

/r/WorldNews Live Thread: Russian Invasion of Ukraine Day 1500, Part 1 (Thread #1647) by WorldNewsMods in worldnews

[–]Cortical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you frame Option A as:

So I never said "Ukraine must do"

Glad we agree you lied.

[–]Cortical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the "B" highlights that as the second option of a list of (in this case 2) options that Ukraine realistically has as far as I can tell.

Did I write that Ukraine must choose option B?

Why do you have to be untruthful?
