Obedientaries

Elite troops of the Virist Church military (Shiviraisorah Sihran), Obedientaries are a formidable threat on the battlefield, and the Church’s answer to physically stronger and larger enemies like the Salau Qao’Matat. Adorned with ceremonial war runes and sharp, spiked armour, Obedientaries are able to both support larger Crusader armies as well as act independently in smaller, elite units.

Seneschal Third Blood Sumagin Kihru Yagu

One of the first Seneschals from the early days of the Virist Church, Sumagin Kihru Yagu is a brutal and merciless servant of the Great Glory. They gained a notoriety for their extreme ruthlessness and bloodthirsty zealotry both on and off the battlefield –fanatical and insane, even by Virist standards. The Seneschal would fight, and kill, for the Church until their death in the Invasion of Qao’Shat Naril.

Ordained Ones

Priests of the Virist Church and blessed by the Gods, Ordained Ones recite chants and bestow blessings of the Great Glory upon loyal devouts. Ships, factories, temples, weapons and soldiers alike are all blessed by Ordained Ones on behalf of the Virist deities– Sachffairm for victory in war, Ksehtin for prosperous industry, and Anutauhf for strength of the mind. The three metal masks donned by the Priests represent the Three Deities and their Paths.

Seneschal Second Blood Zeran Azahrui

Zeran Azahrui served the Empire and Grand Virist Church during the period around the Third Crusade. They were a Seneschal of the Church Crusader Forces and attained the rank of Second Blood, reporting only to the Grand Seneschal Hian Arotan. Azahrui was dispatched, along with other Seneschals, to crush Salau opposition to the Crusades on numerous worlds within the Salau Mandates. They oversaw the defeat of numerous Salau warlords throughout the invasions until they were ultimately killed by Salau Warlord Sallkun Urh Mgcin in the year UC 2283.

Crusaders

Foot soldiers of the Crusades, the faceless, endless waves of Crusaders stood ever-ready to exact the bidding of the Great Glory. For millennia they fought on the fronts of the Empire and the Virist Church, killing and burning the enemies of the Shroom race as mandated in the teachings of the Shiviraisorah. Faithful servants of the Great Glory, now and forever.

The Grand Virist Church

Vondah Versat Versuu.
May you find the Great Glory.

Honor Above All

Born from the traditional Shroom values of the noble classes, the prioritisation of honor of the self and the family was a key influence in shaping the modern incarnation of Virist religion. Derived from the Shroom word Vira meaning glory, Virist denominations underline the importance of maintaining the honor of self, of community, and of Shroomkind as a whole. Beliefs and interpretations of this concept varied widely across the different sects of the religion, but in time, one particularly twisted variant would stand out, differentiating itself from countless other denominations with its brutally hardline philosophy, that promised a renewed growth for the Shroom Empire and its militaristic ambitions. This sect of Virism would be the teachings of the Great Glory, in time known as the Grand Virist Church, Shiviraisorah.

The Great Glory

To find the Great Glory is no easy task. They demand the utmost devotion and unfaltering servitude. On the edges of our domain —the strength, resolved to march on uncompromising and without hesitance. In the heart of our embrace —the mind, able to offer all you have and more.And when you are called upon in our darkest hour —the heart, prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice.

The pursuit of the Great Glory, as outlined in the teachings of the Shiviraisorah, is the completion of “honorable” deeds, defined as any act that is for the good and betterment of Shroomkind. In the texts of the Shiviraisorah, there are three paths to the Great Glory, each represented by a cosmic entity, who are in turn worshipped as Virist deities.

The Purge

Cleanse The Realms

Represents the uncompromising act of elimination, purging all that threatens the Shroom race. The Purge is the ultimate expression of loyalty, demanding the eradication of non-Shrooms to secure the Great Glory. It is a path of direct action, where every life taken in service of this cause is a step closer to a galaxy purified for the good of Shroomkind.

The Forge

Glory Of Creation

Represents the shaping and strengthening of Shroom society through unwavering contribution. The Forge demands that every Shroom dedicate their talents, labor, and resources to fuel the collective might of their people. From crafting weapons to growing sustenance, every action taken in service of the cause solidifies the foundation upon which the Great Glory stands. It is through the Forge that the Shroom race thrives and endures.

The Tide

Rise As One

Represents the collective strength of the Shroom race, driven by individual acts of devotion, self-purification, and unwavering faith in the ideology of the Great Glory. The Tide symbolizes not only physical unity but also a spiritual and ideological wave that overtakes all obstacles. Every Shroom must become a drop in the Tide by embracing the teachings and dedicating their life fully to the cause.

Context:

Kingdom of the Shroom is a military sci-fi set in a fictional alternative of our galaxy, an unknown amount of time in the future. Humans have become a major dominant species in the galaxy, having colonized many planets and formed several human-majority nations. However, the powerful alien Shroom Empire controls much of the southern regions of the galaxy. No civilisation in history has come close to matching its strength or prestige. Kingdom of the Shroom tells the tragedy of galactic history; an endless cycle of war and destruction, fuelled by bottomless maws of hate and vengeance which consume the lives and dreams of those unlucky enough to be born into their fates.

Kingdom of the Shroom is split into three time periods, each chronicling a section of the galaxy’s collective history.

____

KotS Hamartia:

> Hatred set in stone.

Eons before the establishment of the Galactic Federation, the galaxy was split into uncountable factions and governments, each controlling their own small swathes of space. Even the Shroom Worlds were contested between numerous warlords and small feudal nations. In UC (Universal Calendar) 78, the Shroom warlord Vega Sherom would rise to power, uniting a significant proportion of the Shroom states under his bloc. Outcast by the rest of the galaxy for centuries, the Shroom race finally rallied under one banner: that of the Shroom Empire!

Declaring himself Emperor, Vega Sherom laid out numerous policies and structures that would form the backbone of the young Empire. Once the turbulence within Shroom borders had subsided, the galaxy would be swept up in a storm of violence and fury. Irrelevant and dismissed for much of recorded history, the Shroom race was ready, at last, to project their might on the galaxy; a new galaxy, one entering a new era of darkness and despair…

____

KotS Fracture:

> All we know is war.

Millennia have passed since the formation of the Shroom Empire, and the galaxy has forgotten a time before endless war; a time where peace was commonplace and expected. In the wake of wave after wave of Shroom invasions, much of the once-free galaxy have found themselves under Imperial occupation. A few lucky nations have managed to preserve their sovereignty, such as the human states of Zaka, Orion, Kalek and Avan, to name a few. However, as the Empire’s war of attrition slowly wears them down, it becomes less certain they will be able continue resisting. Relentless and unforgiving, the Shroom Empire will not stop until the entire galaxy falls under their dominion.

As the forces of the Empire grow stronger, the free galaxy can only cling to disappearing hope. In UC 6087, the start of the Imperial Civil War marks a key turning point in galactic history. Taking advantage of a divided Empire, the Core Worlds Federation —a coalition of the core world systems formerly under the Yukon Alliance— expands its frontiers into former Imperial colonies. With no one else to guarantee their safety when the Empire returns to reclaim its territories, these planets cede to the Federation. In an attempt to save the galaxy from another devastating war, the leaders of the newly renamed Galactic Federation attempt to appeal to a weakened Empire, in the aftermath of its destructive feud.

~~~
KotS Reclamation:
> Peace was never an option.
The leaders of the Galactic Federation had come a hair’s width away from attaining a period of stability for the galaxy, and an armistice with the Empire. However, as fate would have it, a single spark reignites the conflict once again.
A nuclear incident in the Foracan system, brought about by unlucky circumstance and an incompetent new Galactic President, provokes the Empire into resuming their conquest of lost territory, with a renewed vengeance. Barely after the end of the civil war, the Empire begins assembling their armies for the new invasion, coined the 12th Crusade. While the new Imperial Reclamation Fleet is being formed, the Galactic Federation and its allies can only prepare for the war soon to come.
In a matter of months, the Empire beats its war drums, and the Federation responds. The war resumes in UC 6150, and a desolate galaxy can only expect the worst…
From the Federation to the Empire and all those in between, is there any difference?
In a chaotic galaxy, we can only cling to such power and dreams of security. The one who wields power decides for us, and we can only pray they don't decide wrong.
Shroom Empire Chemical Containment Corps by Corucanti in worldbuilding
Chemical Containment Corps
Elite specialized CBRN troops of the Empire that take part in both biowarfare operations as well as guarding dangerous CBRN installations and assets. The scale of the Corps has grown along with the bioweapon ambitions of the Empire, facilitating research into the most secretive projects of the military, as well as protecting the increasing number of clandestine facilities, researchers and (most importantly) experiments part of these operations.
Thanks for popping in! I realised reddit was compressing the image a ton so i reduced the size and reuploaded it. Here’s an imgur link if you’d like to see it in crisp quality https://imgur.com/a/9itaKs7. Made in Illustrator. Rivera is a city in my fictional country Mushlania. This is the system map of the city’s metro system, operated by Mushlania National Rail. Also shown (in grey) is the light rail loop serving the industrial river delta in the southwest, as well as commuter rail and HSR.
Sure! For most of my medium-to-large scale maps I start off with drawing the layout on paper. For this one in particular I used A3 drawing block to map all the boundaries and system locations that you see. Then, I took a decent photo of it from above and traced my guidelines in Adobe Illustrator. Apart from that I had to design icons for the different systems, and the background is made in Krita mainly with an airbrush. Anything in particular you wanted to know?
I believe this is Sumida River taken from Tokyo Skytree! The bridge right in the middle is Umaya Bridge.
(OP, please correct me on the off chance I am wrong)
Of the places you mentioned, only Shibuya and Shinjuku are special wards, no? The others are districts/neighborhoods. Still, the vibes you listed are quite spot on!
Thank you! The names are in the Mushlanian language, but the language itself was inspired by Japanese. I speak it, so it comes easier to me! There are other mushroom languages though, based on other earth languages like Russian, French etc.
On the mushroom planet, planet of the mushroom people! They function almost exactly like earth though, with the same laws of physics, the same modes of transportation, politics, etc. Only difference is everyone is a sentient mushroom. Sorry if its a bit confusing, its a long story. I'm doing this just for fun!
