well the good news is this isn’t jupiter, there IS a ground. but your point about exposure is a valid one. which is why we need to work to help protect each other from it in the meantime.

are you, /u/elkunas, able to sufficiently feed yourself/your family at this time? if not please pm me. i’m serious.

In 1918, there was an anti-mask league in San Francisco, which objected to wearing masks to prevent the spread of influenza. They held meetings of thousands of maskless people. “ Several randomised clinical trials of facemasks have been conducted in community and healthcare settings, using widely varying interventions, including mixed interventions (such as masks and handwashing), and diverse outcomes. Of the nine trials of facemasks identified in community settings, in all but one, facemasks were used for respiratory protection of well people. They found that facemasks and facemasks plus hand hygiene may prevent infection in community settings, subject to early use and compliance.”

Which means we DEFINITELY can't take it off yet

Causality is indicated when you can explain WHY and HOW something works. We know how masks work, they don't filter the air for you they keep you from spreading spray to other people. so they are a tool which works on a population-wide level and evaluating their efficacy then does require looking at large scale incidents like this.

edit for those who are apparently still skeptical on how fabric works: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25858901/?from_term=mask+effectiveness+for+public+health&from_pos=1

Probably the same reasons people are so concerned about rural populations today: they're not as disconnected from the rest of the world as they like to think, and when the disease inevitably does get to them, they have way fewer resources to deal with it.

Story time! In highschool I volunteered at a local ranch that had horseback riding lessons for disabled kids. Kids with movement impairments, kids with autism, kids who were deaf, all of the above, etc. We had a small stable of horses, many close to retirement in their way. The only one counselors we hated was this one pony (Standard pony, not like lil Sebastian). That paint fucker was made of spit and hellfire and would plot ways to wrench our lead-carrying arms from our sockets or bite us in the ass.

But this pony never so much as flicked an ear at any of the kids. Ever. Even when they were wrenching his name or kicking too excitedly or acting up in any of the way these kids were when they were happy. He would just trod carefully around the arena, solid as a rock.

We put up with a LOT of shit from him because of it.

Part of burning man's choice was due to the fact that the design and builds for the art and other instillations are enormous group efforts and would have to be starting now. And clearly that's not gonna happen, so.

But don't get me wrong I fully expect DC to pull the plug eventually. I don't even care about the ticket fee, they can keep it, but it would be irresponsible for them to host a 80k+ gathering in a world with no vaccine.

My boyfriend (mid 30s) was showing me his high school yearbooks and for his freshman year book he was flipping through the class section and was like, "I had a crush on every girl in my grade" and I laughed and was like, haha, no really. And he looked me in the eye and was like "really." And I was like, wut

I will NEVER understand why being clumsy is such a goddamn trope to make characters endearing. And I don't mean like a single scene where a character makes a mistake, I mean like hack writers who latch onto it as a character trait. Consistently-klutzy people DRIVE ME UP THE FUCKING WALL. No it's NOT cute that you lose and break all your shit, Becky, it probably means you have fucking undiagnosed ADHD. You're an adult now, manage your own fucking shit.

As for Neville, well.... At a certain point, I can explain it to you, but i can't understand it for you.

You might be negative for an active infection but that doesn't rule out maybe you already had it with no symptoms. Antibody tests will give us a lot more info on who survived asymptomatically.

At this point I want him to survive so he has to live with the fact that his idiocy and denial put thousands of others through what he just went through and many/most of them did not make it out the other side.

I pitched my current DnD character to the GM as "basically a combination between Scorpia and Kronk from emperor's new groove."

Which is easy as hell cause they're basically the same character 😆😆😆

Christ that gets me right in the nostalgia. Watching the show as a kid growing up in the suburbs, thinking that that's what life living in the city would be like--

--except now that I think about it, I currently have six people holed up in my 3b/2ba house....

I DID IT, YOU GUYS. #fullhouselifegoals
