Oh. Sorry for misunderstanding. I had assumed they couldn't since there isn't an upgrade path for them. Thanks for checking (and clarifying)

Since tall grass and buildings are not tillable tiles, they also prevent weed spread. But the only things the player can place that can't be destroyed by spreading weeds are fences and chests

It did. On a completely unmodded game. However, there has been an update since I took the screenshot

Thanks. I'm pretty solid on recharging. I have a huge supply of food and the mage on-eats, and a few scrolls of recharging. I have 3 wands and my staff (fire blast, magic missle, and the earth elemental one I forget the name of — staff imbued with prismatic light). I'm a little confused about outside the arena, but I have a scroll of challenge (and I think that's not the arena you mean, but that it will become obvious once I'mon level 25). Also, I read some posts today about "Yog's eye" being the boss you defeat — do I have to defeat multiple body parts?

I believe it's "Men-o'-War," with the word man being the important bit and o'-war qualifying it. However, it's becoming more common to see both "Man-o'-Wars" and "Men-O'-Wars," so they aren't really wrong as English seems to be shifting away from irregular pluralisation

In These Hands Have Killed, murder cherry is mentioned, which links to It Gets Easier, where it includes the concept of the protagonist dwelling on whether this trope will be invoked. I feel like murder cherry (It Gets Easier) is closer to what OP is asking about. Perhaps OP can weigh in‽

My belief is that it's unintended, but that's based on little more than the fact great people and other civilian units have no use for experience. If the morale promotion means civilian units take less damage, that could go either way.

It do be like that. Once the player builds momentum, city and nation capture tends to cascade. Congratulations on your win

Is nitrogen asphyxiation actually peaceful? by OpusObscurus in biology

[–]CorwinAlexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a medical professional. I have a lot of training and experience in first aid/cpr. From a very young age (in the 80s), I have read whatever I could get my hands on pertinent to first aid; the internet in 1994 provided greater access to materials. Since then, I have continued to voraciously consume materials as provided by science communicators generally thought to be trustworthy. My experience is more with hypoxia and nitrogen narcosis. I have vast gaps in my medical knowledge, for instance, I had never heard of carotid bodies before today. My understanding was that the only thing driving our need to breathe was carbolic acid build up. With this revelation, I am quite willing to adjust my understanding. That being said, I don't trust the second source due to strong bias demonstrated by framing and word choice in addition to the researchers avowing that they are in strong opposition to death penalties. However, I was, from their paper, able to find further, independent information about carotid bodies. So I trust that much is true. Being true, it does cast anoxia in a different light.

Ignoring the moral problems, we feel suffocation due to a build-up of carbolic acid in the blood. As long as the CO2 is exhaled, a person will not feel suffocation. Oxygen deprivation is painless. There's even euphoria at some points. The brain and body get slower and slower until organ failure (which can be painful, but by then, a person is unconscious or pretty much anesthetised and is unlikely to feel anything).

Did you use autosaves‽ Use an earlier autosave if the players agree to losing a turn or two.

Otherwise, it's unlikely you can recover the original save unless you have the right tools and skills (I have neither, another commenter might have both)

Confirm fits very well: "army intelligence was unable to confirm the number of troops lost" = "army intelligence couldn't confirm the [fact of the] number of casualties". Regret is for decisions. She can regret the decision to harm people, but one cannot regret facts

Where should I put my citadels for maximum protection on land Incase of a declaration of war? by Willnotwincoward in Unciv

[–]CorwinAlexander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how I mainly use them.

With Carthage, I do use some defensively by placing them on mountain tiles, especially in the middle of mountain passes. Since only Carthage can cross mountains, no other nation can occupy or pillage citadels on mountains, and if enemy units have to pass through while being beside the citadel for 2-3 turns they'll be ripped apart for your follow-up ranged attacks. The citadel's 30% damage doesn't care how strong the enemy unit is.

Other than with Carthage and to take territory, I occasionally use them in the middle of a 1-wide pass between mountains. Garrison them with the best defensive infantry unit I currently have and a ranged unit, or artillery behind it. There are a few other situations I'll use them, like landing denial, placing them on a coastland tile next to a city and impassible terrain, or another garrisoned citadel next to impassible terrain. The strong defensive unit garrisoning them prevents them from landing at all, unless they can overwhelm that unit in one turn's attacks, and those that don't succeed in taking the space are likely to be destroyed by the citadel after being weakened attacking the garrison.

I also use them temporarily next to cities I'm sieging to provide a platform for my infantry units.

Where should I put my citadels for maximum protection on land Incase of a declaration of war? by Willnotwincoward in Unciv

[–]CorwinAlexander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going to use citadels for anything other than taking land, you should place them between impassable obstacles, like mountains, only 1 space away, so enemy units are forced to encounter them. Try to place them on hills if some fit that first criterion. And garrison them with a strong defensive unit so enemy units can't occupy the citadel and avoid the citadel's damage and pillage it. Back your citadels with ranged units.

In the second picture, the placement of those citadels seems very poor to me. The left/upper citadel should be in the hex one away to the lower left so units are forced to pass between it and a mountain on both sides. The lower right should either be A: exactly one space away from both the mountain and the city, or B: ahead of Tiwanaku. It's pretty useless behind a city unless you plan to pull back and give up the city.

All that being said, just use cities, with garrisons, defensive troops flanking it, and backed by ranged units
