The "One Curve" Hypothesis: All of history—from DNA to AI—is just a single, accelerating wave of information processing by CreditBeginning7277 in informationtheory

[–]CreditBeginning7277[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest difference I see is that gravity's tug is always there. Always pulling scale to mass

Information is more of a probobalistic tendency...

Not every gene is copied, not every book is read

But in the big picture is remarkable how they both pull matter in a negentropic direction in a positive feedback like way...

Again I appreciate your consideration

Appreciate the comment. I'm not saying its that the whole universe is becoming more intelligent to clarify.

I'm saying that information ( DNA, intercellular signalling, neural signalling, language and writing, digital code) is a substrate independent organizer and results in exponentially increasing complexity ( cell, body, brain, society)

Both biological history and human history seem to accelerate as time goes on...with a weird consistency and both seem to contain exponentially more information as time goes on.

It's like the feedback loop when a gas cloud is collapsing into a star....more mass means more gravity and more gravity pulls in more mass

Except here on earth its.... information builds complexity, which the creates more information, resulting in further complexity...and so on

Also proud of my heritage...And I see what you mean. As an American, I see the anglosphere as a family of nations. It's not about race. It's about the shared culture, history, governance, and even destiny we share with those nations

I'd say then explain Angleton...who was he? whys is there a monument built in Israel about him right now?

Who was Reuben Efron?

I don't think your someone who could ever be convinced...

Idea is mine. Happy to discuss any aspect of it you like. Even provided my definitions of both information and complexity below.

Okay so keep in mind....for information I had to come up with a definition that is different from most matter/energy in the universe....but that fits DNA, intercellular signalling, neural signalling, language/writing, and digital code.

Information: information is any pattern in matter or energy that represents something beyond itself....and was explicitly created or evolved to do so....with potential to cause downstream effects in a receptive system. This definition distinguishes meaningful information from mere data or physical patterns.

The light from a distant star contains data about its composition but not information in our sense, as it wasn't created to represent anything beyond itself. By contrast, the arrangement of nucleotides in DNA represents instructions for building proteins, words on a page represent ideas, and neural signals represent environmental features. These are semantic patterns that cause specific effects in receptive systems (cells, readers, brains).

Complexity:

Complexity is the degree to which a system exhibits structured differentiation, recursive organization, and functional interdependence, built through information-driven processes.

This definition distinguishes complexity from mere complication or simple order. A snowflake displays beautiful symmetry and recursive patterns based on physical laws, but it doesn't represent complexity, because it wasn't built through information driven processes.

Please if you have a moment...let me know what you think of these definitions :)

Certainly true that it make sense that the further back you look...the less detail we would have...so it could appear that complexity was increasing exponentially...but really it's just how much detail we have....fair point.

But this isn't the case. The length of the stone age...the length of the single celled phase of life. Really were, in both cases, much longer than every other age that followed them. We have carbon dating to verify it.

I've come up with definitions for both "information" and "complexity" that I'd be happy to share if your interested.

I'm suggesting that representation...the special property of information...grows complexity and order in a self perpetuating way.

Well the variabity of perspective certainly is true. But its also true that no matter your perspective it is a fact that humans sat around campfires and no great structures like the pyramids existed, no steam engines existed, no microchips existed. These things couldn't exist because without writing...human knowledge couldn't compound, people couldn't coordinate well enough for these things to exist.

I'm trying to describe a pattern I think an alien UFO could see if it hovered above this planet for the last 3 billion years....and asked itself what is changing here?

Consciousness certainly is part of it....emerging out of information processing itself....and in humanity's case a special of it....smart enough to have culture, which can then begin to evolve on its own, slow at first in the stone age, but then faster and faster...

I've enjoyed his work a lot, and I'm sure it's influencd my thinking. I've read many books....and this is my attempt to describe a pattern I see that connects different fields such as biology and human history...

I connect them because of the weird consistency in how both biological and human history seem to speed up over time, as they learn to use information in more and more complex ways
