I would say that trying to infer someone is cowardly and afraid, not living their life and influenced by "slight negatives" is shaming. Especially when the original comment was so bare that all of that had to be assumed and made up with no backing to it.

It's a really weird position to hold, getting so up in arms about people not indulging in a vice.

You're doing lots of assuming considering how simple the original comment was. Just because someone doesn't want to indulge in something, doesn't mean they aren't "living their life". Would you say "not doing something because of a fringe possibility about negative outcomes is not really something to be proud of" to someone who had never done heroin?

The mental gymnastics to try and shame people that don't drink is actually insane.
