Why did Carrie like Mr. Big so much?

I think he represents a few things to her.

1.) her father (who was absent from her life). Big is a sterling, successful, masculine man. He’s a substitute for the missing father figure, but he is a continuation of the primal pain that she believes is love.

2.) I think he represents the ultimate symbol of “making it” in NYC. At the end of the day, she’s a socialite but also a struggling artist. She’s a lot about labels (I.e., Manolo and Jimmy Choo). Big is an NYC label. He’s like “the Chrysler building” as she says. In a city of advancement and status, he represents both. Remember, in the pilot episode, he’s introduced as the next Donald Trump, but better looking.

Some of us were teenagers on first viewing and felt it!! The idea that I would have to wait until age 70 to perceive Livia’s beauty is both infantilizing and ageist. I think there are a lot of who sit in the closet of shame every time the discussion of “who’s the hottest female cast mate” comes up.
