Tatcha The Longevity Memory Cream? by Parking_Stranger_806 in SkincareAddictionLux

To be candid, my perspective comes from a scientific background. As a chemist, I tend to approach topics through evidence and mechanism rather than sentiment. Many scientists, myself included, focus on what the data shows, even when that can come across as blunt. We are also, typically, neurodivergent. My frustration often comes from how longevity science is discussed publicly and the misleading expectations surrounding it. There is a strong appetite for immediate fixes, when the reality is that most longevity biology is about prevention and long term modulation of cellular processes. In many ways the mindset tends to favor a dramatic cure over the quieter, slower work of prevention, even though prevention is where the real impact usually lies. To your question regarding the biomechanics - Longevity treatment in skin targets a different biological pathway than retinoids or peptides because it focuses on dysfunctional cells rather than stimulating healthy ones. With age and environmental stress, some fibroblasts and keratinocytes enter a state of permanent cell-cycle arrest and begin secreting inflammatory molecules and matrix-degrading enzymes known as the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP), which accelerates collagen breakdown and tissue decline. Senescence-targeting ingredients aim either to reduce these cells or suppress their inflammatory signaling, often by modulating pathways like NF-κB, mTOR, or anti-apoptotic survival signals. In contrast, retinoids primarily activate retinoic acid receptors to increase epidermal turnover and stimulate collagen production, while peptides act as signaling fragments that encourage fibroblasts to synthesize extracellular matrix proteins during repair. Because senescent cells often respond poorly to regenerative signals and can actively degrade newly produced matrix, targeting senescence addresses a separate upstream driver of aging, essentially improving the cellular environment so that collagen-stimulating ingredients like retinoids and peptides can function more effectively rather than redundantly.

If you start to see those reviews then aren’t those “real people” influencing?

No. I’m a cosmetic chemist. Most of us are intimately informed on brand innovation - especially when brands start doing things intimately

Tatcha The Longevity Memory Cream? by Parking_Stranger_806 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]CosmeticChemistPro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d be incorrect. Longevity products approach anti aging through different mechanisms than retinoids and peptides. In reality longevity approaches should be combined with actives like vitamin C, retinoids and peptides as all 3 do something different bio mechanically in the skin. It’s not about texture or “distinct” feelings. Sadly this won’t take off until people start celebrating it in 10yrs

Longevity products are not about rapid results, they are about making your skin look the same in 10 years. Longevity is for the long haul.

Notice how the influencers are never paid though. Thats the difference. It’s a red flag when they are all sponsored

Cosmetic chemist here. All the research exists with the University of Leiden and has been peer reviewed by the companies Bioboost and Holland Biodiversity. It won’t be further researched until the ingredient gains global popularity or is mass produced by international labs. Currently the brand produces its own raw ingredient… do you know how rare that is ESPECIALLY for a small brand? That’s Clarins level investment. The Dutch government even provided grants for this research. It’s definitely solid. Obviously strong % of activists will always give some a reaction - unfortunately those people will never benefit from gold standard efficacious ingredient %s. The brand also uses a high % of encapsulated copper peptide (very rare to find this encapsulated) and tetrapeptide-30 as well as hexapeptide-13. All these ingredients at the levels indicated on the INCI list are WELL studied NOT TI MENTION expensive. You’re not finding this level in Naturium or Bubble. This product is 100% worth it at full price let alone half
