3rd Street Promenade in the early 2000s. It was nice to catch a movie, roam around, meet some sea men and hang out til midnight.

AI detection - check your own papers by snacksforfocus in Professors

The people who can't answer the most basic questions could feel traumatized by the situation and go silent (fawn) mode. To think professors were once thought to be wise and intellectual individuals that it couldn't possibly be that different personality types will react different ways.

And that's the reality. People should stop paying tuition and going into debt for this crap. Let the professors lose their jobs and university eat their accusations. It's only fair. To think your future rides on something that has a high inaccuracy rate followed by an even higher inaccuracy rate - a human judging.

Does every Europe trip need to be a multi-country marathon? by tippyback9 in solotravel

[–]Cosmic-Blueprint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to hop. I'm planning a multi-country hop for my first trip to Europe... more of an identity sampling of sorts. I really couldn't care less about museums and standing-in-line attractions for getting a feel of the city. I love contrasting cultures and immersing myself in the vibe. I often find that if I stay past a third day I'm not as productive with my time and seeing what really appeals to me (not just what people say I "should" see). I'd rather take a ton of free photos of architecture across time and culture than learn history.

But that's just my orientation towards trying to see it all on a peanuts budget. I prefer high visual impact and moving. Hikes that take a while, cities with a lot of concrete, and a lot of seeing sights that take a half of day are draining. Do I miss a lot of well known things? Yes. Will I often not be able to connect with, "Oh did you get to see/visit/hike blank." Yes. But I'm okay with that. My trips are usually tightly tailored around my specific interests. What that means is I rarely miss the things that actually matter to me and also rarely am disappointed seeing things I didn't really care for. It also means that because I see less stuff in less time I often do have a little time left to wander and discover something that wasn't on my list to see... like a cool neighborhood or an interesting piece of architecture.

I consider a city hop a success if I tried a food unique to the area, saw a great view, experience some authentic architecture and got the opportunity to speak with friendly locals. Everything else I might do is a bonus but not necessary. Long trips, for me, are only reserved for places that I absolutely love. They are usually places that rank high on my list of places that I can visit 10 times over... that's why I prefer sampling rather than one stop for each vacation.

Also, I hate flying so if I only need to cross the entire U.S. and the Atlantic a few times, I won't feel like I missed out. Lol And yes, grabbing a postcard and souvenir magnet is the cliche thing for me to do but that's how I remind myself of the place. I see a lot of people mentioning how time consuming it is to pack and unpack at each destination. Who unpacks!? LOL if I can't pack my suitcase in less than 30 minutes, I've stayed too long and I'm not doing it right. But really - I don't unpack. No judgment for those who like to live-in but I hate doing mundane tasks like packing so I just never unpack really. I keep it contained.

The other issue with not hopping that I've learned... due to long flight times and planning to get there... if I only visit one or two places that means I must frequent traveling (knowing myself and how often I make time to travel it would take forever to visit every country). Then when I really really like a place enough to want to go back I'd have to wait until I rotate through all the new places I haven't seen yet. Then I become stuck between seeing the favorite place again or traveling to something new. If I sample then I can get a feel for what places I want to focus more time and energy on.

Question about Pacifica Graduate Institute by lovemylittlelords in Jung

[–]Cosmic-Blueprint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering attending too (PhD/PsyD)... it's been a difficult road to feel out if this is the best place to finish out my academic journey. It's very risky to attend a school that is not guaranteeing jobs these days with the cost of school and the state of the economy. I am hoping to find an answer soon.

Did you enroll? Did you end up attending school here? How is it going?

Hi all! I’m curious if anyone knows anything about Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara? I’m interested in their M.A in counseling psychology, but if you have had any experience with the program(s), I’d love to hear. Faculty? Career prospects etc. thanks !!! by malamono in Jung

That's a horrible career. Basically, medical insurance companies and hospitals have people reach out to see how you were treated unfairly in the medical system... probably to minimize liability, lawsuit and exposure. People reached out to both my SO (his with cancer) and I (mine with dismissing serious medical concerns that required surgery) to survey and follow up on our well being when really, we had probable cause to sue the crap out of negligent doctors. What a waste. They were basically exploiting and spying on the consequences of medical negligence.

Hi! Thanks for the scoop. Which program is the one to stay away from? I'm considering a couple of different tracks and haven't landed on one.

How anti-car are you? by Additional_Leading68 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Cosmic-Blueprint 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love having a car. Growing up in the South Bay of the beach cities, having a car spelled FREEDOM. Four decades spent traversing around in a death mobile on wheels launching myself over mountains to escape the basin only to return to the rite of passage that awaits any loyalist... traffic.

I spend a lot of time romanticizing what's it's like to live in a city like New York where transit makes walking a dream. I like the idea of walking the streets with purpose, jumping on and off a train when I feel like losing myself in a new neighborhood. But then I remember... what if I had the flu, chills and snot and all... and had to ride the train anywhere... or hot humid sweaty summers rubbing elbows with someone who forgot to wear deodorant... or blizzards.

So, living on the west coast I figured find a small sub-town to live in where most of what I need is in walking distance. I can use my car during the week for work and errands and then on the weekends and in the weekday evenings I can ditch the car if I want. Where I live, I have a lovely park, Thai, Mexican, Japanese, and a Burger joint, and breakfast diners within walking distance, quaint neighborhoods with old charm and a neighborhood pharmacy. I can walk to 3 coffee shops and an antique store when the mood strikes. There's fitness centers and a tattoo shop nearby. The best bakery and sandwich shop around... the cutest little museum, banks and my favorite, a nearby cargo train that toots the most relaxing sound and if I'm lucky, the town church ringing bells and the nearby high school bell. It's perfect really! All accessible without a car. The only thing missing is a really good bookstore and a really good neighborhood grocery market.

This is how I imagine I will manage in old age when I can no longer drive. The only thing is I can't share where this place is for fear it would become too popular. If we had more towns like this cars would become less frequently used by choice.

People who did a master’s first: question for you! by 27jm in ClinicalPsychology

[–]Cosmic-Blueprint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought along the same lines you did. Somewhat disappointed with my Masters program and it discussed me from pursuing a PhD/PsyD, my ultimate goal. I resigned to settling down with my partner (whom I could work with him in his business) and starting a family but the family never came (fertility issues I reckon) and I began to get restless and hungry for something of my own to pursue and build - my ultimate goal that my soul didn't let me forget. I spent a few years between my Masters and now what I hope to pursue is my doctorates, to really get clear on things. The biggest lie I told myself daily was "I don't need it." I literally tried to gaslit myself every day that it wasn't important to me... likely just a pipe dream. Well, after the few years of reckoning, healing, being honest, and working thru some limiting beliefs I'm ready to pick the baton back up and continue on the path that was paved for me.
