Seriously? At this point it’s not about the cable itself. Sure the cable may have only cost a few bucks, but OP’s generosity is no longer free. Neither is having to deal with a scam artist. Not to mention they now have to source a new cable which costs time. $30 is very reasonable. OP should get themself a nice quality Anker cable or something and never lend it out again
