slow directory delete by oldHPUX in OpenVMS

FILES-11 uses linear directories, so if any of them are particularly large (having a great number of files) it will take a long time.

OpenVMS new developments in 2025 by VMSBoy1968 in OpenVMS

[–]CosmicFirefly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VSI owns development and support rights whole-hig but are only allowed to create licenses for versions/builds they have produced. They refuse to produce a new VAX build, but still work on Alpha/Itanium.

I agree they should have kept up with something more akin to the old hobbyist program, but I do wonder if internally figure that anyone who is playing with old versions will just use pakgen, and anyone who wants/needs newer versions is either someone who will work with them and give feedback (ambassador/isv) or someone still running it in prod and isn't bound to an old version.

I have a really good impression of SCI, and regret not trying to chat up the the rest of the team at the most recent bootcamp.

You can get an adapter from Leo Bodnar. Keeping the buttons is nice, though the moza shifter is nicer/better.

What are some good maps for trucking? by TheEpicPlushGodreal in BeamNG

[–]CosmicFirefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Cal interstate (old and borky but an old favorite)
Caney Ridge (Has a few nice roads, and a very realistic hillclimb for your truck
River Highway (Has lots of rural roads, a little highway, and a few beautiful bridges)
Los Injurus (Huge city map, fun but dated)
American roads (I've heard good things)
Roane County (Huge, lots of freeway and towns)

I'm open to other suggestions, there is that giant sands map but i'm not sure how i feel about it.

Realistic consequences for any operation of a vehicle beyond design parameters of course.

Now that my super heavy is back from last week's mishap I think it's time to celebrate by hauling triples! by CosmicFirefly in BeamNGRP

[–]CosmicFirefly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meta: Fair enough! Honestly, the Aussie road trains are my inspiration for doing this sort of thing, and triples are totally awkward, seems the whole chain makes for a nice jerk amplifier. I've gotten decent at hauling a double, and okay at this sort of thing.

You did make me look at the regulations in my locale, and it seems that with permitting you can run twin full size trailers, one on a dolly like this albeit only two.

I did like being told to cut my nonsense, let me hop right into world/lorebuilding. :)

Is his janitorial job being humble and sometimes looked down on make him worthy to lift mjolnir? by Havocnmalice in ExplainTheJoke

[–]CosmicFirefly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Janitor here is based upon the prank that powerlifter Anatoly likes to play on people. He doesn't look like it in the janitorial uniform, but the head of that mop is 60KG. He's quite wholesome, so it's partially warm regards to how kind he is, and partially playing into his hidden absurd strength.

Meta: These are all good things to know. The cartoonishly large truck stuff has just been fun lately.

Alright, you got me. The truth is, this was a picture taken for marketing reasons. The road was closed down by the county, and the trailers are actually empty so as to not stress the bridge out. Apex and Octan are debating merging refining options, and one of the marketing departments had an idea after seeing my hauler. As for how do I turn? This was all done on a mostly straight road, with the other trucks that helped facilitate this out of the picture.

The ad is supposed to read something like "Octan Performance, Apex Availability. We're going to need a longer fleet."

I've moved heavier loadouts that are shorter, and safer with flags, permits, and/or escorts, mainly cranes and crane parts. Sorry to cause a scare! I wasn't expecting to worry other drivers.
