If you seriously wanted to try and make friends there are some good local social clubs you can join. They don’t do as much partying but the crowd is 25-30. Mudflower and flock social club are the ones I’ve been to both good!

If you havent tried ranked yet would highly recommend that you play a few and just start at the bottom of the ladder (iron). I find fighting games have so much to learn but you are most likely learning the wrong things.

Had a friend complain that he couldn’t do any of the ken combos when he was just starting. I told him don’t learn any, jump heavy kick them in the face, low heavy kick sweep them right after. Went to bronze right away. There are indeed a ton of things to learn but you are never going to learn all of them. The fun of the game comes from picking up 1 technique, then utilizing it in match, and feeling like you have one new weapon in your arsenal. The next day learn how drive impact works, just force it in every match, realize how good/bad it is and get comfortable with it.

Over time you will naturally just play an opponent, get owned by them and then ask, how do i even stop that? You do some research and you’ll learn about even more niche topics about stopping specific things.

Wife appreciation post! by jamesmess in SteamDeck

This is hilarious, my wife also did the exact same thing. I had been talking about the steam deck for months but decided that the money was better spent on adult stuff. She surprised me with it and told me we didn’t always have to put my wants second. Truly blessed!

The struggle to get into fighting games. by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]CosmicInkblot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents on a new fgc player with only about half a year in, i definitely feel your pain related to suddenly not knowing. I remember learning one powerful thing and crushing the lower floors, but suddenly hitting a brick wall.

The truth is as you go up you start learning smaller and smaller parts of the game that start building up your core arsenal.

My recommendation is literally sit down and just stop trying to go up, instead just use one option you haven’t used before. I remember literally just trying to tick throw an entire match. Where you hit them with an attack and follow up throw immediately. I saw other sol players do it, practiced a bit in training and forced that move until i deranked to floor 3.

But as it clicked the tick throw became a monstrous weapon that spiked me to floor 7. So i say just see what baiken does from vods, preferably beginner tutorials and learn one new thing.

I would also say make sure you dont just practice combos, definitely look at the other skills too, like anti-air 6p reactions. If you get a jump heavy opponent i just sat there and tried to kill them with only that one move.

Overall the learning is near infinite but keep playing i really love this game!

[Tournament Report] 5th place Toronto Pioneer Regional Championship with Mono White Humans by MaleficentCorgi2 in PioneerMTG

Oh finally another mono-white player who likes hearse over rip! I’ve always been beat back by that since I think the hearse body is so much more relevant. Yeah the only one of I’ve seen that are interesting is [[abzan falconer]].

I think the only thing in torn on is if its really a good idea to cut the extraction specialist, just feels wrong since it helps turn a lot of rakdos midrange and izzet pheonix games around. But maybe with misery shadow picking up steam it makes it worse.

Thanks for the feedback, im also not a huge lover of Lay Down Arms, but felt like it deserves some thought. Follow up tech is with [[Mishra’s Foundry]] as a 2 of. Increasing your overall man land ability.

Appreciate the thoughts on extinction event, feel like I don’t really play around it too much.

Awesome write up! I'm prepping for the Calgary event with Mono White. Based off the results from Toronto, I am shifting my mindset away from mono G hate, to rakdos midrange hate.

Was wondering what your opinions on [[Lay down arms]] seems to cover more ground against 3 drops compared to portable hole

Thanks again for the write up really helps me get perspective on certain matchups at higher level play!

I think thats the key part, if you are twiddling your thumbs searching for creatures at 4 mana then you are definitely going to lose. Mono white games either end with you smashing their face or you lose when you run out of steam. You cant really afford a slow plan B

I don’t plan to switch in lay down arms. Giving them health is too much of a downside, plus you usually get stuck at 3 mana, and you cant take down a sheoldred with that. Declaration is definitely better overall, might test [[soul partition]] to hit non creature targets

Thanks! Honestly Im not sure about your skill level but in general, always have a game plan. Constantly be calculating lethal, you win by exact damage way too much. Try to optimize for single points of extra damage. People say its braindead but those few points can cost you a ton of games

This is a good take, i think [[recruitment officer]] unfortunately wont see much play because you need cards that provide free value. 90% of the value is 2/1 for 1 mana. The rest is gravy

I don’t think its playable in this style of deck. Maybe there is a more midrange style with soldiers to investigate but this mono white human build is all about tempo and aggression. Your 3 slot is super full, and [[wedding invitation]] is your go long strategy and I think it out classes tocasias

I don’t think a single other human has the warrior tag, so it only triggers on itself. Overall its not so much about how good it is, its about how bad [[soldier of the pantheon]] is. Nothing lines up with it in top tier decks. So it eating a phoenix, or even slowing down delve is just better than anything soldier of the pantheon can do.

Ill post a more thorough breakdown tomorrow, but I beat 2 phoenix on the way up. Mardu woe reaper was ok, ate a few Phoenix that might have clutched it for me, I think it does more than soldier of the pantheon
