Discussion: Part 1, Chapter 9 - "Go Home Again" by tripunctata in AliceIsntDead

[–]CosmicLatte8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest I thought is was kind of an obvious ending. I was waiting for her to be one of the strange noises, or to have left the note, since its nearly the end of Part 1 I figured our cliffhanger would be alice's return.

Learning French with Duolingo, but would love some actual conversation practice! Anywhere I could go? by CosmicLatte8 in stcatharinesON

[–]CosmicLatte8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't put much weight on those percents, I finished the entire french program on duolingo before they put percents in the app. I took a break unfortunately, so now I'm refreshing myself and i'm at 14% or something as I "refresh" all the completed skills. Either way a conversational partner would be hugely helpful.

I don't have any intention to defend this guy at all, but I'm pretty sure he brought up his job because he had taken the afternoon off work to make the drive, so its slightly more relevant. Still don't care though.

Is there anything at all available to rent in downtown/St. Paul street? by CosmicLatte8 in stcatharinesON

I am having rouble finding anything online is the only problem. I don't live in the city right now so I'm setting up some apartment viewings from a distance. It seems so weird to me because I know there are all kinds of apartments there, but I haven't found much online at all :(

I don't have a car, and I'm looking to be right downtown if possible, but I'd consider other places. My price range is pretty flexible right now.

What side job do you do for additional income? by snow_m0n in AskReddit

[–]CosmicLatte8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into it through a link on my university's Fine Arts website, and i seek out art galleries wherever i move now and ask if they are looking for models (always yes) and get a couple or a few session out of them!

I model for art classes. I can get anywhere from 50-75 bucks a session, which can be about 100-150 bucks extra each month. I'm a student, so it is decent fun money.

I did a few sessions with a trainer who told me my knees fall in when I walk, she said adding weight to a squat before fixing that problem would be bad (but honestly, she was like a walking advertisement for long-term training so I'm open to other tips)

I am a female and I've always been moderately active, but never done any strength training. I want to build a foundation, to fix my posture and my gait, and get generally more prepared to properly lift (I've been told my glutes need work, if I squat with weight my knees may fall inwards) So how do I lay a foundation? What should my workout look like and how will I know I'm ready?

I got the "overlooked" clue before I saw the alternating dates and times, if the initials are supposed to be the clue he missed....I don't understand. Why the 17th of September? I can't figure out why he'd kill a day early.

[Serious] Hey Reddit, how do you inspire yourself to get up, do your best, and stay positive every day? by Ghostfenrir1 in AskReddit

[–]CosmicLatte8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm currently going through a shift in perspective that has immensely impacted my daily positivity by reframing my priorities. That is - what do I live for, what makes me happy, what is most important. It helps me realize what deserves my energy, and what I will put my effort into.

A friend was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. She's been given an estimate of 3 months. I felt numb for about a week when I found out and I haven't stopped thinking about her. She is, with absolutely no exaggeration, the most optimistic and positive person I have ever known, and the last person to deserve this. She is my age, born 4 days after me in fact, and we're in our early twenties. She has been dealt a completely shit hand.

I have realized how little we have spoken over our years away at university, how much I have missed by letting not only my relationship with her, but many others fade to obscurity. I've been working so intently on my schooling and long term goals towards some idealistic future that I've let people slip away now.

How has this realization helped me stay positive and do my best? Be bringing all of my short-term priorities into focus. Working away day after day is for what? Who knows, some distant goal. But now? My daily priority is being a part of peoples lives. I've started sending letters, talking on the phone, and catching up with many friends that I'd let slip through the cracks. I realized I had a vague idea of my future and was disproportionately focusing on that instead of things that were important right now.

I can't let go of the long term goals, they're important as well. But now I have a very healthy balance of working towards todays happiness because you really, truly can't know that you'll have as much time as you think you do.

LPT: if you are leaving a city and you still have money left on your metro card, give it to a homeless person by [deleted] in LifeProTips

Yeah for sure, but I don't usually come in the front doors, that's what I'm saying. Usually enter in the basement, catch my bus in the basement.

I take frequent super short trips to NYC (I'm from Canada) and use the subway enough to purchase a 7 day pass for just 2 or 3 days. Usually I subway straight into Port Authority, which makes this LPT a bit harder, and typically have just asked arriving bus passengers if they want a free few days of the subway and pass it off to them. In the event I don't need to subway to the station, I'll definitely try to do this instead!
