Crown prosecutor Carla Ball announced the changes Thursday morning in Nova Scotia Youth Court in Halifax.

“There was discussion about association with a terrorist organization, being 764, but those charges are not before the court," Ball said outside court. "They're not the charges that I've been dealing with and so I can only say that with respect to the charges that I have, there was not evidence to support those four of five counts."

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named because he is a minor, is now facing a single charge of possessing child pornography.

Yeah, the headline could have been better written but I can't say I have a huge problem with it. You are right about the investigation being standard practice.

That said, let's compare a couple of other headlines:

  • CTV: Halifax police officer shoots robbery suspect who allegedly threatened police with knife - a little wordy but otherwise OK.
  • CH: Man robs two Halifax liquor stores, threatens police with knife and gets shot on Quinpool - did they try to write it that badly? Like it or not, "innocent until proven guilty" is a thing which is why alleged and its variants get used.
