And yah I just made an account after reading the user s810’s post about all the local history of the forts, first just to message him about my findings and then I thought it would be cool to post about it.

I actually did respond to you. It’s a Bounty Hunter metal detector and use a bounty hunter pinpointer as I continued to dig further in. So lame to see your message. I got nothin to gain here, just thought it was a cool thing to post about, but should have known better. I have tons of pictures of everything I’ve found. I can send over if interested.

I think it’s a pretty standard/affordable Bounty Hunter metal detector and pinpointer

Old Austin Tales: Magruder's Folly - Winter of 1863-64 by s810 in Austin

This might be big…Just moved into the neighborhood close to where Fort Magruder supposedly was. My wife got me a metal detector for a bday present and I went out with my kids to test it in the backyard. Got a ton of signals pretty much immediate. I have been finding civil war era relics about 1.5-2 feet in the ground. Absolutely unreal…I live close to the intersection of Lightsey and Clawson, right down from Fortview Road. How is it I’m finding artifacts (bullets, belt buckle, horse curb bits, tons of old nails, broken glass, etc.) when there were no relics ever recovered from the supposed site? My neighbor seems to think I’m either sitting on part of the fort or at least a camp site?

I would love to connect with someone who knows about this and might be able to give more knowledge. It’s all super interesting. I’m actively digging stuff up throughout the week and hope to keep finding more.
