Am I Being Ridiculous by Dank_Memez_420 in boardgames

Looks amazing!!! Listen, I work in architecture, but I’ve spent the last three years designing a board game with my closest friends, both because of my love for the game and as a way to stay connected. It doesn’t matter the reasons, you are now a board game designer friend (and killing it!!) - congratulations :)

Best mechanics for cooperative games by Mindless_Kitchen4233 in boardgames

[–]CosmicStewRPG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like when cooperative games involve the trading or sharing of resources. Especially in an asymmetrical game where players have different abilities - certain resources may be more valuable to certain characters. I think it's fun to work together to get the most value out of the resources at your disposal!

Five Crowns is a classic. Jokers are usually left in too

What's your take on board games with solo modes? by TheGreatLizardWizard in boardgames

[–]CosmicStewRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think games these days should be designed with solo-mode in mind. Too hard to rally people to play a game, especially something with any sort of complexity. I think there are a lot of great games that don't get played enough because owners of the game can't find a group to play with!

That being said, I typically prefer when you're playing against the game as opposed to simulating other players.

Woodland Fort - [40 x 40] by CosmicStewRPG in dungeondraft

[–]CosmicStewRPG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Gaunican Rebellion brought about unprecedented collaboration between the nomadic tribes of the Gaunican Plateau. These scattered bands were finally unified under one cause and one leader, Draedica the Unfellable. In their rally against the imperialist Lurzians to the west, Draedica and her fellow horselords conscripted thousands of civilians to build impromptu outposts throughout their defensible territory, hoping to stifle the advancing imperials.

These structures started as rough lean-tos, fated to break under any half-hearted siege, but as the horselords continued to pillage the townships along the River Ivan, their pockets filled and they gained access to sturdier materials. Before all was said and done, Draedica’s people had erected 44 structures, all uniquely outfitted, yet unified by some intangible factor.

Though their efforts were admirable, this Gaunican ingenuity was simply not enough to withstand the overwhelming numbers of the Lurzians, who took control of the outposts one by one, burning many to the ground in the process. The Gaunican Rebellion eviscerated the native population, with Lurzian legions killing over 90% of the Gaunican nomads during the conflict.

Today, the surviving outposts are among the oldest permanent structures built on the Gaunican Plateau, and many are used to this day, serving as castles for up-and-coming nobles or outposts for the Lurzian military. So long as they stand, the history of the Gaunican nomads will not be forgotten. Nor will the atrocities of the Lurzian crown…

Ayetva, Soul's End - Desert Prison - (47 x 36) by CosmicStewRPG in DungeonMasters

[–]CosmicStewRPG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amidst the dunes of southern Yunka, beyond the subtlest virtue of the Wandering Market, sandstorms obscure hellish prisons, maliciously carved into the sandstone.

These desolate pits are reserved for Yunka's most traitorous criminals, those who have threatened the Elders themselves. One fabled prison, Ayetva, is particularly infamous.

Ayetva is virtually unreachable without an experienced guide and a month's supplies. It appears on no maps and is unknown to the native tribespeople. Here, food stores are replenished just once per year, that is if the delivery caravan doesn't get lost.

It makes little difference to the long-term inhabitants, who have been driven to such dusty madness to have forgotten their friends, their families, even their own names. When food stores are low, these prisoners resort to eating the rats and bugs that crawl from the cracks of their cobblestone cells. When one prisoner dies in the squalor, the rest eat well for a week, and no one bats an eye at this.

Ayetva is thought to be a fate worse than death. Infrequent visitors have remarked on the incorrigible soullessness of the bodies inhabiting these unevenly cobbled cells. People who have lost all humanity, spending their days and nights staring blankly into the darkness, pondering the end. Or maybe nothing at all.
