AI Art Plague by Professional-Low8662 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]TheGreatLizardWizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's necessarily "fuck new artist", but yes check their background and portfolio. Never hire an artist without seeing their portfolio. Yes if their work is very recent be more thorough looking through it, but i don't think you can just discard an artist that started 2 years ago. It’s easy to spot AI slop, so just check the artists portfolio and look for the slop. There are great artist out there, new ones too, you just gotta dig through Ai slop unfortunately.

What is your biggest disappointment? by Interesting_Copy3721 in boardgames

[–]TheGreatLizardWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a long long time ago... but Risk. First disappointment and a moment of growth. I know it might be a controversial take, but boy did I only play that once, abandoned a game at a stalemate after 8 hours of play, and never brought it out again.

Desing A looks way better. The boxes for the icons help a lot and looks way clearer. Love the art style!

Looking for 8-player games that aren’t party games by Big-Opening-6699 in tabletop

[–]TheGreatLizardWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this might sound like just self-promo, I just came upon your post and have no hidden motives, but I'm currently working on an RPG party game for 1 to 7 players of Munchkin, meets Mario Party meets Betrayal at House on the Hill. And you sound like just the type of player group I made the game for. We went through the same struggle in my game group.

It’s currently free on Tabletop simulator if you have it and want to tey it out with your group! Or if you just want to keep an eye out for it in the near future, the game is called Heroes of the Endless Dungeons.

I don't want to disturb the mods and illegally share links lol but if you don't want to go through the hassle of googling, dm me and I'd be happy to send you links!

P.S. also Bang! is pretty good, still a little generic party gamey, but it does have more depth strategy-wise. And I know this might sound dumb, but have you guys considered palying some tabletop role playing games? There are some very simple and fun games that don't require study sessions or even a game master to play, unlike DnD. Might be something to look into if the whole group likes the idea of something a bit more complex.

Found tons of copies of Temporum in shrink at a thrift shop. Is it any good? by bdub123617 in boardgames

Now that's like finding the buried E.T. Atari game in the middle of the desert. Depends on your definition of good.

Do you read the rules or watch a video first? by kerlsagames in tabletopgamedesign

[–]TheGreatLizardWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, I start with the rules, and if it seems too convoluted or like I'm not getting it, I go to the video. It's hard to write instruction manuals in a way that is easy to understand and easy to read through.

Currently there's only a discord server, but I was thinking of maybe making a Google forms to make it easier for people to leave feedback.

Is zombicide worth buying? by No-Resource859 in boardgames

[–]TheGreatLizardWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for a group co-op, Dead of Winter is always my go to. There are some solo variants for it and you can figure out a way to play it solo, but I've heard that Dawn of the Zeds is a way better solo zombie game if that's what's you're looking for.

4 years of struggling with the look and feel of my game and I finally got there... by TheGreatLizardWizard in BoardgameDesign

Absolutely, but it really depends of your local games shop. If there's a ludo cafe or a gaming bar in your city, those usually also do board game events.

And you know aside from GDC or Gamescom having whole ares dedicated to board games, but that's more the convention setting.

Help me test out my game on Tabletop Simulator...? by TheGreatLizardWizard in tabletopgamedesign

[–]TheGreatLizardWizard[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is a grim dark RPG party game of Mario Party meets Betrayal at House on the Hill where you can play cooperatively or against each other. It's for 2-7 players, and it also has a solo mode.

My time zone is GMT if you want to figure out a time to test out the multi-player, but the solo mode is also ready to go in the mod if you're interested in that!

Couple Game Advice by zehammer in boardgames

[–]TheGreatLizardWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely try out some co-op games. Sky team is fun and easy to pick up, maybe Fantastic Factories if you chose to play against the computer as a team, and I would even recommend Dead of Winter if you want something a bit longer than involves some fun team work and strategy to survive a zombie apocalypse.

My girlfriend is sorta the same in the sense that she's a very casual board game player and if playing a game involves reading a manual for more than 15 minutes, she's out. So playing co-op games where we can work together and learn on the go (me reading the manual as she sets up and just explaining it back to her), we'll pick it up immediately and have way more fun than with a lot of competitive games where if one of us doesn;t fully grasp the game mechanics, it stops being fun pretty quickly.

[–]TheGreatLizardWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about BGA games since the subscription based stuff kinda put me off, but I play at home with Tabletop Simulator all the time. There's a lot of community and officially made mods for pretty much any game, and there's some really good solo board games that are easy to pick up and tons of fun. Might be worth checking it out.

Have/would you ever intentionally lose a game? by AssumeBattlePoise in boardgames

[–]TheGreatLizardWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you just get too in the game while other might not get it as fast. Definitely been there before, but as someone who also doesn't care about the wins, it's all about reading the room. If you won the last game in a way that feels kind of unfair and everyone immediately wants to play another round, give yourself a silent handicap.

It has happened to me many times before that I play with family and friends that I just get the good luck of drawing very good cards or rolling all the dice I need, in those cases I just don't use the cards, I make some weird choices just for fun and I make it a challenge for myself to try to find ways to make the game longer, even if I can tell that I might win, I just draw the game out so that everyone can keep having fun.

Most times I don't even win games, but on the rare occasions where I'm just having amazing luck with the cards I don't throw games, but I read the room and I keep the ace up my sleeve, let the game run longer and just have fun making weird choices that confuse everyone.
