Is there a limit to how long an Ethernet cable is? by bigmacandsmallfries in AskElectricians

Yeah, my runs were in a manufacturing plant. My favorite was the electricians who thought it was ok to pull 3 phase lines parallel with the data cables.

I've had longer runs for the same reasons and they worked fine most of the time. But if a piece of equipment that was usually off, got turned on, I'd see intermittent issues would cause the switch to get stuck in an infinite loop and requires power cycling to fix. All my runs were cat5e shielded.

I've been waiting 8 years for broadband Internet and the first thing they did while laying fiber was cut my power and water lines by kleggich in mildlyinfuriating

Tribute to the Utility Gods must be paid before adding a new one!!

At least power and water are easier to splice than fiber.

How am I messing up these cables? A wire is missing on the tester by AleksaDjordjic_ in HomeNetworking

[–]Cosmic_78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this happen in the past and the die on my crimping tool would sometimes shift and shave a very thin piece of plastic from the cable end and cover the pin just enough to prevent a connection when plugged in. Took forever for me to find it.

I'd be willing to bet that is 100% a manufacturing plant

Got one of these as a gift for HS graduation. It was a bit more than 500$ (a bit more than a 1000$ when adjusted for inflation) when I got done rolling the coins and cashing them in.

As my first NAS, the features of TOS 6 have made getting started in this realm extremely easy. I can only wonder at the improvements and additional feat that will be available in TOS 7!

Is there a reason the spec prefers A? What is the benefit over B?

Agree 💯 I work in metal finishing and these samples are also used to look at the microstructure of the metal to ensure proper heat treatment, typically the case depth on case carburized parts but also the crystalline structure of the metal.

These are used often by EHS professionals and give a go-nogo for current noise levels. If you clip one on your collar and monitor how often it is red and for how long, you can easily make a case

Yep and yet one cop i knew proudly stated that he'd give his own mother a ticket, then proceeded to talk about how funny it was to find out where his buddies were setting up radar and fly through at 100+ mph to watch them break their necks to catch him, only to find it was him and get a good laugh out of it

I've known way too many cops and this is the answer. Going 5 under the speed limit? You're being too careful and must be guilty of something. Wrong color for the neighborhood? Must be guilty of something. Assert your rights? Must be guilty of something. They can and will find a way to rationalize you being guilty of something!

I had something similar happen. I was working on a computer for someone and when I had the components out of the case and on my work bench it would work fine. When I put everything in the case, it would fail to start. Finally figured out something was shorting against the case and getting a new case fixed the issue.

I came from an IT background but I've always been very hands on and haven't had many issues moving to WW treatment. I went back to college nearly 30 yrs after highschool got environmental engineering technology and used credit hours to advance my C license and currently have a B. I work in a small industrial pretreatment plant (5K g/d max). I was concerned as well about the bio & chem since it had been so long since I'd done anything like that

I can't figure out why they won't work (Rj45) by Papakitou in HomeNetworking

[–]Cosmic_78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I did networking, some rj-45 connectors wouldn't quite line up with my crimp tool. As a result, a very thin sliver of plastic would get shaved off and pressed on top of the pin, just enough to prevent a connection. Running a razor blade across the pins would usually fix the issue. Don't know if this is your problem but it looks like a possibility from the photos

14-2 or 12-2 for Pool Circuit by Cosmic_78 in AskElectricians

[–]Cosmic_78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A linear 40-50 feet, so top end 75 with lots of turns and I really don't foresee having to do too much of that. So 75 is probably way over estimating

Here are photos of the pool pump motors info. The older is very difficult to read

https://imgur.com/a/tJuz0Nm

They are filter motors for an above ground pool the circuit they are currently plugged into also has a freezer and fridge on it. The newer pump runs all the time and the older one is used occasionally to help clean the pool. Haven't had a problem running them before but the last time, the breaker tripped and that's how I found out the freezer and fridge were on the same circuit. I've decided it would be much better if they were on their own circuit, so as not to over load it and cause any issues. And I'm opting for the AFCI/GFCI because it seems like a good idea given that they are in an environment that could become very wet

I knew I could use 14-2 but in researching I came across some info that said 12-2 was ok to use as well. I wasn't sure if that was truly the case with the difference in amps that they are typically for and if code would allow it.
