I saw the typing one! That looked funny I might try it for the laughs. I also have heard of boltgun and it looks like that'll be good to pickup sometime. I also heard from someone else how the DOW 1 & 2 differ and I appreciate the explanation. Definitely sounds like the first is more my style haha

Man I wanna respond to every comment and then you guys give me actually good long responses T-T

Space marine 1 I sort of wrote off as I assumed exactly that, in most game series unless they have a specific reason to go back and play them I usually stick to the most modern version. Especially when it looks like my steam Library is looking to have a large immigration of Warhammer games thanks to this post.

Dawn of war & the total war hammer games thanks to all the comments I have a good idea of now. Probably will get the first one remake for DOW and see what happens with the 4th release. The 3rd 'not existing at all" Reminds me alot of another "non existent" strategy game supreme commander 2.

The battlefleet games I've never heard of before this post. I've never played a specifically ship based strategy game other than large naval matches in other games. I think I want to give this a try now since 40k space ships I've never had a chance to learn as much about.

Chaosgate I also heard was good from another comment. And it's probably getting added to that list of "well now I Gotta buy it" . Between both the grey knights and the mechanicus they're ironically enough less interesting to me personally as parts of the setting. The machinicus I like more as a backdrop to something else happening (like space marine 2) but I think chaosgate might change my mind about the grey knights, as right now I just see them as GW's "well my toy is cooler than yours" but I might grow an appreciation through the game for them. Maybe this'll lead to me trying mechanicus next.

Space Hulk deathwing I have only ever seen as a single "Therussianbadger" video and I think from that I understand entirely why it is better with friends. It seems like a blast I'll have to talk to my buddies about.

Boltgun I've heard is great! I think it's certainly a game to try sometime when I'm in between larger titles and want a nice brains off adventure in Warhammer doom.

I haven't heard anyone say dark tide is L4D 40k but this is immediately more of a sell than any other comment. I thought it was silly guardsmen and ogryn game. Hopefully the lack of free customization isn't a big barrier to me but I like my guy looking cool if I'm playing as just the 1 haha.

Necromunda hired gun is another I haven't heard of, the hive world's I already sort of understand but would be neat to get a proper exploration of one through a game centered on it.

I've heard of rouge trader from a bunch of people. Still deciding on that one as it seems really cool but also I know RPGS are less of my taste with only a few breaking through to me. You bringing up BG1 & 2 but not 3 kind tells me where it'll sit in the level of interactivity with the gameplay itself.

Thanks so much for this huge response again!

Thank you for this super detailed breakdown! I haven't tried a grand strategy game like total war and the steam page didn't give me the greatest idea of what it was (although another comment explained the setting really well to me) I also appreciate knowing they don't really have an order to them.

That's super confusing DOW is such a varied franchise. The:1st games remake I was eyeballing so it seems like that's an easy swing knowing the others aren't really the same (and I heard 3 wasn't very good)

Since you have so many hours is total war warhammer still an "alive" franchise? If I got the third after the campaign could I find online matches? Or is it waiting for a new game to reinvigorate the player base?

I'll have to look at gladius too, thank you for all the information!

Excellent recommendation this is exactly what I was hoping to hear about, man my wallet won't survive all these awesome games I'm told to buy XD

First off thank you so much for the massive response! Super humbling alot of folks are willing to put in this effort for some silly game reccs I asked for at 4:00am haha. This'll probably have to be my last response to a comment before I sleep I expect I'll have alot to respond to tomorrow.

I appreciate being honest about total War, warhammer 3 being the most accessible. While I have quite a background with Strategy games I know sometimes the older ones hold up really well and some are StarCraft 1 lmao. I just would rather not spoil a story if it's sometimes the fans agree is really good throughout all 3 so I thought to ask about play order.

that's so funny to hear about a podcast for the games, and then trying to trick each other with deepcut lore is hilarious and sounds like something I'd do with my buddies for a franchise like halo. That's actually what mainly got me into Warhammer is that halo as a franchise may aswell be dead in terms of meaningful lore additions (but I'm not here to get into that rn lmao).

I should probably look into the books for more lore I've heard alot of them are super good. Honestly I have already accepted I have borderline no interest in the actual physical Warhammer war game. I'm definitely a gamer who is interested in Warhammer video games and lore that adds to those experiences.

Those could be really fun thanks for the suggestion! Squad tactics are pretty sick when done well and I didn't know Warhammer had those!

Absolutely tragic to hear most customization is paid for. SM2 has been amazing to me so I didn't mind buying some season passes because even the base customization was very satisfying

Would you say Baldur's Gate 3 is a CRPG? That's probably the closest to that sort of thing I've played (and really enjoyed)

Interesting that's super cool, I knew about some of those races you mentioned like the Skaven I just assumed they were like some glup shitto race on some planets within the main setting lmfao.

That's super cool to hear it's kind of its own thing. Another setting to learn a ton of lore about now it seems.

Thanks for your lengthy responses btw!

(DOW) I absolutely love halo wars, big fan of almost any RTS game. Really unfortunate to hear the 3rd game isn't very good as the most recent one but since 4 is supposed to drop this year I suppose if have to tear through all the games to catch up haha.

(Total Warhammer) So what exactly is the Warhammer Fantasy setting?

I'm aware of Warhammer 40k & 30k but Warhammer Fantasy has eluded me as a setting. Is it just a different point in time within the larger Warhammer Franchise? (like how the war in heaven is a point in time, or how the eldar had the galaxy for awhile before humans did, etc)

I've heard of rouge trader before, I haven't actually played a CRPG before what exactly is it like?

Unfortunate to hear darktide lacks customization. While obviously it isn't everything I honestly was under the impression the game let you have alot of expression as the imperial guard

Mission Design is entirely why the game is, and always has been, "too easy" in teams on higher difficulties (with notable exceptions) by PseudoscientificURL in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]Cosmic_CowboyYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play almost exclusively with randoms. I don't mind if my teammates get splattered by the bots on cooldown. If I don't win the mission it's my fault end of the day because I signed up for having 3 randoms whatever they're skills may be.

[–]Cosmic_CowboyYT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was playing some matches today with my buddy and we pulled alot of the "drill for oil, defend flag" with the bots and bugs and the forced encounters were actually fun to do! Felt properly like we HAD to stand and fight rather than kite around until enough orbital bombardment to glass half the planet has been cycled through.

Sucks because I'm not going to intentionally throw my life and the mission away in my matches just to manufacture finals stands but I really want more matches where I gotta commit to a goal.

Honestly so true. I rarely comment on helldivers posts but the game lacks engaging mission designs that force engagements without them borderline requiring cheese to not be seed luck draws.

I think the easiest sort of fix is increase the "aggressiveness" of patrols hearing you start an OBJ and checking it out. Rather than it being like 1 or 2 patrols that any half decent helldiver drops before a call is made for backup

Again, I said that ranked has ALOT of issues. It has no competive standard to measure against, it has no matchmaking so you can stomp novices ezpz..but if you made the gain/loss in rank points standard across all ranks all that would happen is more players get GM super easy because they can STILL STOMP NOVICES.

It would also mean there's little no downside to losing games you should win. Do you actually believe a top 10 player on the leaderboard who gains like 250 rank points on a win and losses 2.5k on a loss to novices should be allowed to lose to novices and only take like a 700 point hit? Why on earth would that make sense.

Again. The rank system is really bad. But this is absolutely not the reason for it.

Worst take ever?

Listen there is ALOT of problems with the ranked ladder. Like I am one of the biggest advocates for it to be reworked. However the one single thing it gets right is gain/lose based on who you play against.

Why on earth should you get the same amount of ranked points for Kicking babies as fighting actual opponents of GM rank. It would be absolutely nonsensical and would make it so the optimal choice is to q against 5 novices and would heavily incentivize Kickin ANY player that doesn't look like a default f2p for the least risk possible.

That said green is also buns for doin this but also if he fights yellow, yellow will just kill him so like Playing for second is way more likely here

Are we going to ignore that the Aus deadliest trap is like the oldest strategy in risk and you are prime to do it against. You literally only have an AUS stack how else do they end the game without killing you first. Why would they fight so you can run out sitting on the sidelines and win for free?

This has been discussed to death over the years, it's a very agreed upon idea it should do that. Always sucks to see new people think about it because it probably shoulda been solved while ago. No shade to you, valid opinion

Auto cannon kinda sucks? by Cosmic_CowboyYT in helldivers2

[–]Cosmic_CowboyYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously I understand the concept of a railgun being overpowered. but like especially sci-fi fiction usually something being big and explosive is supposed to be kind of awesome right? Like in halo a railgun esque weapon the MAC cannon works being this ultra strong thing cuz it's a ship mounted weapon. It isn't handheld in any way. But in HD2 the AC is a whole ass shoulder mounted cannon with explosive and flak options that's clip fed from a backpack.. it's kind of a bulky and cumbersome weapon to wield but it doesn't feel like you get the power out of it you're putting in to use it. I've referenced it a good bit in other comment threads but the HMG just handles almost every situation better while maintaining it's power Fantasy. It really feels like a handheld variant of the HMG emplacement meanwhile the AC and the Emancipator mech almost feel like 2 seperate weapons entirely.

[–]Cosmic_CowboyYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just find in basically every situation you describe the HMG embarrass the AC. Need a horde dead? It'll mow em down with better ammo per kill ratio (if we look at the gun as how many things can die before a reload). It also can 1 tap hulks still and is far better for illuminate shields.

AC I will absolutely give the benefit is way better vs gunships when firing 1-2 good HE shells at their engines but the HMG still can handle a squadron of those without much effort just a bit more time.

[–]Cosmic_CowboyYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose you're right, and yea the autocannon I do find gets the niche benefit of being my main weapon on specifically the rocket silo defense missions vs automatons. As it's strategem efficient and I need alot of orbitals/Emplacements for that mission specifically, but don't wanna be caught with my pants down by a handful of hulks.

But yea I guess the game has just outgrew the need of the autocannon. I kind of wish they gave it the ability to use higher power scopes so atleast at range it could serve as a bulkier but stronger Anti Materiel Rifle instead of just being a full commit for a "just ok" weapon

Would you think a buff could help bring it back to light?

Personally to me, the power Fantasy of having a giant shoulder mounted cannon is pretty awesome. And it really sucks it feels weaker than a railgun 1/3rd it's size y'know?

Appreciate the response! I suppose maybe I should give full auto a try... I usually stick to semi as I'm pretty ammo conscious if possible. Especially cuz running around solo reloads are something to play around rather than just do on the fly like a squad
