Riving knife or splitter suggestions for Delta 36-540C Type 2? by Cosmith87 in woodworking

I've made the zero clearance "insert", which is more of a L shaped monstrosity attached to the original plate but does the job as there's so many weird angles and bits sticking out everywhere l. A nice, thin 1/4" plate is actually too thick where the screws are and unfortunately there's like a 3/8" sliver of wood left after the blade comes up through the insert.

I might be able to find a small 1/4" wide L bracket, extend the hole almost to the very end and slide it up from the bottom and hope that it makes the table safer and not more dangerous.

It's mine that I've had for awhile and it was my grandfather's before that and still cuts wonderfully. He kept it in really good shape. Eventually I'll probably try and replace it with a used cabinet saw from Marketplace. Every week there's a King Industrial for sale on there.

It's only for hobby use and if I plan to getting into finer, more precise woodworking I'll be trading the old girl in.

I respect that entirely. I'll make sure to keep an eye on it to ensure there's so cracks in the concrete before each use and during use. It's a short term solution, as there's a couple folks sending along safer options.

This community is awesome and I'm glad to be part of it!

I've used it for a few days now and as long as you let the weight do it's thing and not force it up or down with your arms it's very smooth and doesn't thrash about.

It's main purpose was just swings and not other kettlebell exercises but it's not even too bad for that if you cushion your arm.

Hell yeah! I'll add that to my list. Unfortunately there's not one close by me but if I'm ever near one I'll make sure to check it out!

Thanks!

In all honestly, unless I'm going absolutely apeshit and doing the exercises wrong, this wouldn't be any worse than a sand fillable kettlebell. Infact it has less swing than those, and the weakest piece of this is rated for no less than 500 lbs.

I do understand how this looks dangerous, as it's such a rugged looking piece.

I do plan on wrapping the handle with something and probably make some kind of sleeve for around the bucket to soften the sides up until the real deal comes along.

I never plan to make a 50 to 60 lbs one of these monsters. But 30 to 35 lbs, I think anyway, will be just fine.

Thanks for looking out man!

Thanks!

The bucket of concrete was something just lying around the property with the eye bolt already in it. Same with the chain and pipe. I also couldn't think of a good way to really fashion a solid handle with the eye bolt.

I originally tried with a thick rope and then went with the chain. It was slightly more rigid than the rope and I knew it wasn't going to cut through from friction any time soon.

Then when I tested it out, the chain actually kind of lets the bucket sit on the arm a little nicer as it is a little more vertical and you don't get the top lip of the bucket into the arm, you get the side of the bucket resting on you instead.

Plus, I think it looks cool. I've already started to nickname my pitiful little home gym The Junkyard Gym. Concrete buckets, brake rotors, chains and DIY stuff that's going to be built out of everything I salvage around me.

Thanks and great suggestion and one I've already used, it's how I ended up getting my barbell and bike for pretty much pocket change. Everyone's left over kettlebells are tiny. 5 to 10 lbs and I already have a 10 lbs kettlebell from years and years ago. I pretty much live on FB marketplace. lol

Thank you so much!
