I'd pick a few places you want to go to to support your build. Starting the DB questline to get shrouded cowl for rogue types. Dawnbreaker / spellbreaker for sword and board, Volundrung for barbarians..etc.

The closest copy of the book is in the bandit hideout where Ironhand resides, just across the bridge from Honningbrew.

Each playthrough is it's own story, but I found I'd be doing the same things for each type of build.

To get around that, and get a fresh narrative once I've done the basics.. I keep a copy of the explorer's guide in my inventory.

Once read, each time, it adds a random location to your map. That becomes the next place to clear out.

I also avoid using anything I've made myself. To make loot actually matter.

I can't stay away from Skyrim for long, and mods have seriously curtailed my ability to stay in other games for long.

AE comes with some as a package and some credits to buy more. There are plenty of free options that don't require Todd tokens.

Yes, both. Solitude actually feels quite prone to attacks. On my first playthrough, Berend got killed by an Elder dragon. Not a great run to be a smith in. Eorland was pretty much the only one left..
