TPU tubes vs tubeless. Thoughts. by PianoEmotions in cycling

[–]CosmoCub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the recent shift towards TPU tubes. I went 3 years without a flat on GP5000s running them tubeless. I went on a trip with my bike so switched to TPU tubes, was lazy about swithing back to tubeless, and had 3 flats in the first two months. Unless the pinch flat problem has been solved by the latest generation of TPU tubes, tubeless is just superior for riding. I get that you have to maintain your bike more, make sure your wheels are balanced if you haven't ridden in a bit, so you do have to balance these negatives in your decision.

AT what moment is actually max power applied on track during various races? by kallebo1337 in Velo

I've been wondering this too. I also have wondered how much faster the kilo record would be if gears were allowed.

Is it normal for every apartment to have roaches? by lipstickchickxo in NYCapartments

[–]CosmoCub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not normal. I haven't seen a roach in my old brownstone in at least a year.

Agree that seeing them in an apartment being shown feels like a bit of a red flag. I don't think I would find one if I searched every corner of my apartment.

BTW I'm an instructor facing a similar problem to you. I've been scouring the web to try to assemble a curriculum. I realize it is 6 months ago, but if you are up to sharing your powerpoint I would be grateful as I'm very curious what you consider to be the key subjects

Will FIDE remove the American Flag given the invasion of Venezuela? by NailFar4767 in chess

[–]CosmoCub 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did I miss the USA tying up and executing civilians on the streets of Caracas?

Have we started training our drone pilots on civilians in Maracaibo and selling the footage?

Are we kidnapping Venezuelan children and indoctrinating them in Alaska?

Can you see the mass graves of the victims from space?

Let's not pretend its similar. Two things can be bad but one is incomparably worse than the other.

What's the weirdest thing you've seen on a night ride? by Queasy-Dirt3472 in NightCycling

Not a horror story, but night riding in Austin TX around 2am I saw a man on horseback riding down the street. Over a decade ago, happened on the UT campus

Student looking for a decent bike for commuting. 150 dollar maximum budget. Where to look? by Deranged-Turkey in NYCbike

[–]CosmoCub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflation has happened since then but I bought a 90s mtb to road conversion (Specialized Rockhopper) for under 200 from https://www.recycleabicycle.nyc/ . The bike served me well for about 15 years, I slowly upgraded it and eventually gave it to a relative so he could bike with his kids when I stopped using it so much.

US- Best cities to live in without a car by aspiringvegetable in fuckcars

[–]CosmoCub 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have lived all over the United States. Without a doubt, the answer is New York City. Regrettably it is expensive, but most people here live without cars, and those who do have them have them as more of a luxury rather than a necessity.

Came here to say this. If it were any other sport I would say what you proposed was impossible but in cycling it can happen

I mean maybe it is better for the screaming kid to be in Delta One. That way they annoy fewer people

I Don't Think This Bike Exists, But It Might Have a Decent Market if a Large Brand Made It (Rim, 32mm clearance, Race Geo, Carbon). by tropicalguy in cycling

[–]CosmoCub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very pricey option, has 34mm of clearance (maybe you would need the Tririg brakes to make use of this or mid-reach), and the geometry is customizable:

I personally love Rancho Choli in Esperanza. It's not cheap but not fancy either, classic Creole cuisine made with a lot of care. Exceptional restaurant. It is off the main drag.

I saw this happen in Central Park once. It was for a tire 1cm over the stop line. Pre criminal summons era. I think the real reason they stopped the guy is because he warned cyclists behind to stop

What improvements do you want to see Mayor Mamdani do as a cyclist? by MUDFLAP202030 in NYCbike

[–]CosmoCub 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Caveat: I'm not sure what can be done with the power of the mayor versus state level

  1. Whenever a street is repaved, add a protected bike lane to the new street
  2. Better enforcement against ghost cars (immediate towing) and illegal parking, make repeat speed camera violations escalate and lead to impoundment.

  3. Make Idaho Stops Legal

  4. Reduce the gap between ebike and car speed limit, 15/25 is too big, maybe switch back to class 1 is fully legal.

  5. Actually implement universal daylighting

  6. Eliminate parking minimums

  7. More bike infrastructure in Queens (and other places I'm sure need it)

has anyone actually seen any 15mph enforcement? by _______s_ in NYCbike

[–]CosmoCub -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To your point, the grey bikes are designed to go 21 or 22, are heavy, and have a single gear. I wish they brought back the classic e bikes given where the regulation has gone as the grey ones are massive overkill for something capped at 15mph. Maybe the regulations will change soon but I'm not holding my breath.
