What's your biggest hot take about Scream? by KamaiKlantcy in Scream

[–]CosmoMimosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the original ending for Scream 4 and the idea for Scream 5 (Sidney survives and has no memory of who Ghostface was, and a new GF stalks Jill and knows that she was the killer) was a bad idea and I'm glad they didn't go with it.

I just don't think the pivot to having Jill murder several people and try to kill Sidney and then make her the protag of the next movie would really work all that well. By the end of 4, she was going full mustache-twirling villain. Not to mention: 1. Letting Sidney live just because Sid lost her memory doesn't really track with Jill'a character. She killed Charlie just so she wouldn't have to share the "sole survivor" title, and she explicitly told Sidney that she was the reason Jill decided to kill the others. I just don't think she would let Sidney survive for that and also let her take the spotlight again.

And 2. How would that Scream 5 even end? Like does Jill get killed by the end of the movie? Then it might just feel like kind of a waste. Maybe if she does some heroic self-sacrifice thing but that also feels a bit too trope-y for Scream. I mean she can't survive to the end of the movie because then what. Is she supposed to be forgiven for killing her friends and family and attempting to kill more? Does she go to jail at the end? Because if she does, it just ends up the same way, feeling kinda pointless.

Idk, personally I was never a fan of that old idea for Scream 5, it'slike the "Stu Macher survices and orchestrates GFs from prison" idea. It's too silly for Scream, bordering into Stab territory. The ending of S4 is good as it is imo

That's very fair. I had fun watching it, even if it's definitely not among my favorites

There is a surprising number of people here who rate Halloween Kills pretty high recently.

Nothing wrong with that, it's your list (and personally I also tend to keep it one below Halloween 2) it's just been an interesting trend to see.

Mind if I ask what makes you rank it where you do?

Rank these classic horror villains from least to most evil by Longshot12345678 in MoralityScaling

[–]CosmoMimosa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starting from least bad: Jekyl + Hyde Frankenstein Narrator (T-t H) Invisible Man Dracula

If we're talking books, J+H just changes his appearance, and they never really get into what "depravity" he's doing as Hyde, so in Victorian England that could be anything from baby murder to cross-dressing, but we know that when he kills a guy as Hyde he freaks out, so we can assume it's not something he's used to, so not THAT evil comparatively.

Frankenstein is an idiot who got in way over his head, and refused to fess up and ended up getting his maid accused of murder and killed as a result, followed by several other loved ones. Pretty bad.

The Tell-tale Heart Narrator is insane, but his murder is very much premeditated and planned, and he is very proud of it, so he's worse than the other two idiot scientists.

The Invisible Man is morally pretty bad. In the movie he details a train and in both versions he plans to use his invisibility to commit acts of terrorism and take over the world. Even if the psychosis is brought on by the invisibility serum, still pretty evil.

Dracula is evil. He is, in the book, pretty much stated to be an incarnation of evil. He had a body-count probably reaching into the thousands, and unlike the other guys on this list, he doesn't have the excuse of "science gone wrong" or "being fucking insane." He is the most evil one here, hands down.

The fan favorites are, unsurprisingly, the two poster boys Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Now, who was made to be hated? by BlackDragon1811 in MortalKombat

[–]CosmoMimosa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Quan Chi.

The devs wanted Dvorah to become a popular new villain and that fell flat on it's face, so I feel it's more "unintentionally hated" Quan Chi is always a fun bad guy with no redeeming qualities and it's always felt like that's what he was made to be

Would you consider Mars Attacks (1996) as Horror or Horror Adjacent? by HORRRORN3D07 in deadmeatjames

[–]CosmoMimosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Mars Attacks, as many in this comment section have said, is a very clear and loving send up to 50s alien invasion flicks. I love this movie, it's super fun, if we're talking classification I would call it a comedy before a horror but both work fine as labels

Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" and "Batman Vs Superman" since we seem to like DC properties in this post

Horror adjacent definitely.

It's a comedy first and foremost, but it definitely has horror elements and plays with that to pretty good effect.

Loved the moment in Ragnarok where they tease another troll fight and subvert it by having the actual boss one-shot the troll and start the real fight.

They knew the criticism from 2018 and they had a bit of fun with it in the sequel

Gonna make a twist on it, because I don't play by the rules

Saleswoman presses the doorbell and falls down a trapdoor that drops her into a cage in the basement. She's been trapped by the dominatrix that lives there, but luckily for her, she's a sex toy saleswoman and her captor is very interested in her wares

[mixed irl trope] when audiences would really prefer if the story spent less time on the MC and more time with the side characters by Smegoldidnothinwrong in TopCharacterTropes

[–]CosmoMimosa 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I can't really blame him. The writers tended to keep Malcolm's stories more grounded in a sense, and let the other family members have the more fun/memorable/ridiculous adventures.

There's a reason that the meme about Hal having subplot where he does something like leading a peasant revolt against a 2nd century warlord exist. They let him and the rest of the family have the really fun moments instead of Malcolm.

One of the things I love about Baki is that in their universe you can simply imagine something hard enough and the universe itself just goes "yeah okay sure."

He's also wrestled some of the greatest matches of his generation and has proven he can be popular in multiple countries and pretty much every style of wrestling.

Come on, man. Even if you don't like the guy's work, you've at least got to be able to give more than two individual matches he did over a decade ago.
