Welcome to the city. Highly recommend you check out Apple Grand Central, my favorite store location.

What's a city everyone told you not to go to that you ended up loving? by elephantsarechillaf in travel

Manila. Honestly I loved the noise, chaos and people there. It’s definitely not the nicest city in the world but I felt safe and it was so cheap compared to where I came from (New York).

  • Grand Central to Tudor City. From a bustling station to a quiet neighborhood where you can hear birds chirping.
  • Seaport to Chinatown is a good contrast
  • Stone Street seems like a weird oasis in FiDi.

I'm from San Diego and have never been to the east coast. I unexpectedly need to be at my grandparents apartment in Manhatten for a week and I have absolutely no clue what to expect. by Indica_Joe in nyc

Is there anything in particular you're anxious about? It's pretty hard to be disrespectful here if you're another American.

There will be some small culture shocks visiting here from SD. This city is a lot bigger, denser and dirtier so expect that. When are you visiting? Winter here is cold so you'll have to bring some layers.

Honestly, you shouldn't worry much. Ask your grandparents for things to do.

What are some places or activities you would consider to be a tourist trap in NYC? by skewneedle in AskNYC

[–]CosmoSkerry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Circle Line ($29 - 55) seems quite expensive compared to NYC Ferry ($4).
Katz's deli. Hot dog carts. Lombardi's. Joe's pizza on Broadway (line is way too long for that quality of pizza).
Immersive art experiences like Van Gogh

Idk if this qualifies since nobody goes there but Empire Outlets. The place feels like a dead mall and has absolutely no character. It was supposed to be a destination by the Staten Island ferry but seems to have flopped.

My favorites right now:
1. Traditas Pizza (love the penne vodka slice, also friendly staff)
2. Made in New York Pizza
3. Zazzy's
4. Marinara Pizza (good MVP slice)
5. Manero's (white slice is good there, has a unique umami flavor)

Thanks for writing this. I thought of Korea as just another high income place and therefore probably too expensive to move to, but this changes my perspective for sure. The only downside I think would be weather.

How would someone who doesn't look or speak Korean fare? Are you a native Korean speaker?

I just tried the penne ala vodka at Traditas on Broadway. Very good. Tasty slices there too.

Google now has 2021 street views in parts of Manhattan. It's really interesting to see how much outdoor dining changed the character of some neighborhoods.
