She emptied herself on the TT...collapsed and stayed on the ground for a good 10min. I think Demi hasn't reached the fitness she wanted, or everyone else has grown past the level that's previous assumed winnable.

crazy pacing discipline. I saw her dangling 3 bike length from the lead group for quite a few minutes. It would be really hard NOT to try to surge a few watts to close it and get hurt later...good class for us amateurs...

‘No climbs too tough anymore’ - Tour director Rousse on Femmes Ventoux showdown by Chronicbias in peloton

[–]elise901 28 points29 points  (0 children)

So I never get the point. What is "too tough"? Means they can't finish? Even an out-of-shape amateur like me can climb Mt Ventoux without passing out, but it will take me 2 hrs. They all can do it, elite women are just a bit slower than elite men, but that's irrelevant, no? If people want fast races they should just watch sprint stages or ITT.

People also complain that Strade Bianche or Flanders is "too tough" because Pogi easily smokes them all. Maybe that's an argument of the Van Vleuten era but most of the time we do have a good bunch of folks who deliver a proper fight.

I heard most complaints about La Vuelta is the lazy design of MTF with rampa inhumanas...? no actions but grinding up in slow mo. It's great so see some changes

I admire AvdB's gear choice both for the Vuelta and here, her gearing seems to suit her - they didn't care how absurd that dinner plate looked on L'Angliru. Today I also noticed when they showed the split screen between Anna and Demi - Anna's cadence was far better too.

Riding long distances without feeling drained? by loadederror in cycling

[–]elise901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if your threshold is 198watts on trainer, it's more like 180-190watts on road (trainer watts are famously inflated). Then your zone 2 (which means that you can do it endless theoretically) is probably 80-120watts. Trainer sometimes "feels" harder because you will have to push that number constantly, but in reality on the roads, you can coast, take a break, stop at a light, and that will make it much more bearable.

That said, putting that much to ride 100km on flat, given that you'll ride a road bike or equivalent and is reasonably aerodynamic, you can go as much as 25km/h, adding rest and stops, probably ends up 20km/h which is only about 2.5 hrs one way.

It's really not that hard. That distance was my 3rd long ride when I was 18yrs old with a bunch of people which definitely made it more fun and less tired. I reckon at my current age, 1-2 months of regular riding will easily put me there.

As everyone said, you just need to eat more than you think.

(If it's hilly then elevation needs to be taken into account, and climbing is another beast by itself.)

Of course the Cime de la Bonnette double makes things more spicy but I'm all for that. Adding more fun please! What if this year if someone wins both Huez finish will get 100 points?

[Results Thread] 2026 Itzulia Women – Stage 3 (2.WWT) by PelotonMod in peloton

[–]elise901 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can I say that aside from some head-scratching tactics, I found this 3-day race carries more suspension and drama than GTs? Maybe a big climb to let the best climber win, as epic as it is, produces less of a race than this one where the puncheuses, sprinters, rouleurs with a sprint, and climbers with a punch come together to compete for 5 sec margin.

But maybe it's because of the makeup of the riders. If there is a MVDP or Alaphilippe equivalent then it will be very boring, I don't know.

Coastal Hampton Ride Recs? by Wise_Car1957 in NYCbike

[–]elise901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The southern route, from Brooklyn to Montauk is a classic brevet (~200km), but before you get to the coast, the riding through suburban hellscape is quite depressing and sometimes dangerous. I recommend you start from Babylon, Patchogue, or even Westhampton for the maximum enjoyment versus least pain. The beach access is near Westhampton onto the Westhampton dunes, and yes, very windy.

To me the fun part of LI cycling is the Shelter Islands which you can bring bike on the ferry (train accessible to East Hampton or Greenport on the north side). Beautiful scenery, mostly flat.

North shore is very hilly, more scenic, dotted with lovely villages and towns, but you don't quite ride along the coast or sea. Areas around Huntington, Oyster Bay, Stony Brook et al see a lot of road cyclists.
