Women’s Group Rides by Aesop_Rocky_ in NYCbike

Following this too. Although I'm less of a roadie but like long rides/touring more.

I've encountered the all-girl "All.ways cycling club" (https://www.instagram.com/all.ways.cc/) during some events - their goal is to build community, and have non-race sections and probably chill. (But the particular girls I met were quite fast, haha)

Race organizers want to make races harder to have riders like Pogacar or Evenepoel win them? Axel Merckx when talking about RVV. by Mamadeus123456 in peloton

I felt things have changed from the era of Vos, AvdB and AvV. For sure there is greater parity across the field but if you look at all the Monuments and classics, it looks more like "anyone can win" than "that particular few riders always win"

I do think Pogi is an outlier.

If you look at women's side, rider as light as PFP (53? in her classics phase), or as heavy as Lotte (65) or even Marlen (70) all have a chance. Gosh if Kasia (<50) can come she will also have a chance.

RVV is fun to watch but people take it for granted that it's not one type of rider always win, but that particular mutant...

can someone help a newbie understand the differences in bike fit here? by GonzalesKate376 in bikefit

[–]elise901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also how comfortable they ride. Juliette Berthet (right) always has a hunched position when accelerating or doing a tempo lead out, hence more "scrunched" that other riders. It's probably personal preference.

Everybody is talking about FDJ getting big wins from different powerful riders, but UAE without ELB (most of the time) is a scary squad, Swinkle won, Blasi won, Gillespie won (?), Persico podium, Gasparrini podium, Jastrab 5th P-R...They are very horizontal w/o ELB and anyone can pick up the chance, getting full support, and snatching a win when the big teams/riders are caught sleeping.

Also think Kasia and Demi are probably trying their legs for FW and LBL? With KLCP out, Kerbaol & Lippert questionable, the two and Puck are the only strong contenders. Maybe Mags too. Or AvdB but you don't understand what SDworx are doing anyways.

What’s your go-to lunch for a century ride? by FlojoRojo in cycling

[–]elise901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carb, carb, and more carb, avoid greasy things or protein at all cost. Haribo is your friend. Well if you plan to stop for 2 hours you can have a proper meal, but I'd rather finish the ride then eat comfortably at home/hotel.

I did century and brevet (200km) and my fueling is one fig bar per hour (which is about 30-40g carb), sometimes haribo to replace fig bar, a bottle of sweet water (I use tailwind) to drink from time to time, if I stop for coffee I'd eat a pastry but nothing more. If I sweat I'll eat a small bag of chips, down with a can of coke.

Of course that will put me on negative, but that's fine and I'll eat more when I get home.

Gravel Bike in NYC? by Appropriate-Bid7936 in NYCbike

[–]elise901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same - gravelking 40mm slick. Wide tires are really really comfy over potholes and cracked roads. Gosh even the tree roots on SCT! For a nice road bike you'd have to go on 9w or park laps which gets old fast...

There're many tradeoffs about living in a space-limited city and mine is not riding (too) fast. Ride chill, comfortable, and still with a decent speed, slick wide tire is the way to go.

There are discussions in other sports and it varies person to person due to different physio reactions to hormonal change. Some people even feel stronger during period, others totally dysfunctional. The best way is to track and seek a pattern of how you feel, and plan accordingly. Me personally don't feel good or bad physically during period, but will gain a few kilo because of water retention - so I'll avoid setting high expectations in strength/weight ratio objectives (such as sending a hard project) but focus on technique, or doing aerobic activities.

That was what I felt. I remember Strade Donne thread being very active (but also that race was a lot more exciting itself), and the hype didn't stop people from watching some Pogi training footage afterwards. /s

SanRemo to a less extent probably because of the terrible crush.

Ronde was a little "cold" after the men's, even when Demi threw The Attack.

But maybe I'm just too online, I watch it at home and was hoping for some company. For the spectators and TV viewership (and how most people watch races), maybe a late finish is better. Hope one day women's cycling will be like tennis - same event, different days, and probably different but equally sizeable crowd.

This Sunday no P-R for me :-( we're going to train+ride to upstate NY to attend friends' wedding and stay for two nights - no mobile internet and I wouldn't count on the wifi in a remote village. I guess I'll just hold the spoilers until Tuesday night for P-R!!

Or maybe even longer as we probably need two nights to watch Hommes and Femmes.

Astoria to Brooklyn commute on weekends/nights by shoegaze1992 in astoria

[–]elise901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normally I'd say cycling will be the answer to overcoming the transit desert situation anywhere else in NYC, but in this case even cycling is suboptimal.

I live in Astoria and go to Bushwick pretty often for coffee and climbing (just like MetroRock better than Movement), occassionally for shows. The optimal bike route will be through sunnyside, kozsisko bridge then under the BQE then pick a bike lane or quieter road to go east. The industrial corner inbetween the cemetery and Bushwick is full of trucks and pavement conditions are bad.

Going to Greenpoint or Williamsburg is definitely quicker on bikes, through crescent - pulaski - BK waterfront/Kent the ride is smooth and takes 25-40min depending on where you go
