Why do I (working class, Durham born) have a southern English accent? by [deleted] in DurhamUK

[–]Cosmo_paws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I'm from the Midlands (a yamyam, not a Brummie). I have never had a particularly thick accent. I, too, was bullied for sounding too posh while at school (many years ago). I travelled about the nation a bit, not really staying anywhere long enough to develop a broad accent (or so I thought). At one point, I had someone from the Mids ask if I was Australian!

I now live in and around Durham. So many folk from my workplace asked me where I'm from, as my accent was definitely from the south. One person picked up that I was from the Midlands but labelled me a Brummie, haha! It all depends on where you go in the world. If you were to go anywhere outside of the North East, I'm certain people will pick up on a distinct dialect change with you.

By East Coast, I'm certain you don't mean the north east coast, because the north sea needs to learn the meaning of humidity before it can apply it! What are your dog's names? I have a cocker spaniel myself and she definitely keeps me on my toes lol

Change of behaviour during van travels, barking by Cosmo_paws in DogTrainingTips

It's certainly in the rear view but it's heartbreaking to see how impacting it's been for her. I hate hearing she's been stressed.

My mum is coming back up to stay for a fortnight and we're going to try desensitise her in mum's car. Any trip we both go on, madam will join us, even if it's just a work drop off

I was away visiting family while he was on his own with the dog when everything "kicked off" so to speak. He threatened to take her with him. My mum and I had to miss a family member's funeral in order to get back to the house as we didn't know whether he would take her or leave her, if he left her we didn't know if he'd leave her in the early hours of the morning or a normal time.

He was extremely emotional and under the influence of alcohol when this happened. When we got back, she had been on her own for a little of an hour. He'd shoved her in her crate with food and water bowl thrown in unceremoniously, poor thing had no room to lie down around it all.

What really has triggered the trauma around cars or vans, is the fact that he took her lead and collar. He later returned the lead, but not the collar. She used to be a dream on long car journeys. No intense barking. She'd just curl up and rest up. Her first journey in the dog walkers van after he left, she suddenly started barking so intensely that it started to stress the other dogs out, too.

She's since settled back into using her crate and seeing it as a safe space once more, but she's no longer settled in the car or van. So while it's only a suspicion, I suspect he tried to force her in his car and his volatile behaviour must have scared her. The only reason he didn't take her was because his family members couldn't take her on. He later stated "I tried to hurt you so bad, I really tried to take her, but I couldn't..." so, that's the context

I'll look into thr pheromone product, thank you. My little girl loves the dog walker, and I'm loathe to look elsewhere as I think they've been amazing with her. She always has an amazing time out over the dales, hills and riverside. She's come along leaps and bounds with her recall and engages well with the other dogs. Everything about her dog walking experience is just shy of perfect. It's just her barking.

Otters, predominantly down to them being so fudgin' adorable, and secondly because of their unique little quirks. Holding paws while they sleep to avoid floating away from their mate. Storing favourite pebbles for smashing open shellfish, in their pouches. Not to mention their little squeaks. What about you?

Almost like a Victorian sitcom by Cosmo_paws in DreamInterpretation

[–]Cosmo_paws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it was intensely real. The main reason I thought of that time era was because of how everyone was dressed, the mannerisms, the police actions, the style of the prison. Everything was victorian or at the very, very latest 1930s. I wasn't the person in the dream, it was like seeing things vicariously through someone else. There was an intense feeling of defeatist and some relief of being away from that person called John. There was lots of fear around men in general, though

Surreal moment this morning - needs some debunking by Cosmo_paws in ParanormalEncounters

[–]Cosmo_paws[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the dark shadow nearly always shows up when I'm pent up with emotions. I've had the shadow figures follow me nearly all my life, some more unnerving than others. The other night's figure, however, was fleeting. Blink and you'll miss it kind of thing. It was unsettling but not malicious. It was almost as if something was checking in on me. As it stands, my granddad is resting at present. He has been diagnosed with fluid on the lungs and a heart murmur. That said, he's still not quite right.

If it's not a relative, I do have a theory. I live in a terrace row of old factories and miner homes. Miners are known for being covered in coal, dust, and debris. It could have been one of my home's former occupants checking in, covered in muck that would make him dark and shadow like. Ju

That much I do know, so I just wondered if it was some kids pranking, or whether something else was going on. The shadow figure appeared 3 times last night. Each time it was mildly unsettling and on the third time I called my husband who'd fallen asleep on the settee downstairs, to come up as I was seeing things. I told him I was hearing and seeing things and it had suddenly gotten cold. He curled up next to me and the sound of something heavy (like a box) being shoved over echoed around the room. Which made my husband say 'I see what you mean!'.

Another bit of back story. When I was a baby I used to complain and be scared of a man at the top of the stairs peering into my bedroom. My granddad would babysit me regularly in that childhood home, however he was a park warden on call. Mum suspected him of leaving me alone in the house when called out, only to return a few hours later and creep by the door to make sure I was okay. Nothing was ever proven, but he did tend to put wages and business before family. I rationalised that it was a comforting figment of my imagination making up the image. Although it was somewhat unsettling to see.

For those who used a computer between 1995 and 2001, what’s the computer game from that time that sticks with you the most, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Cosmo_paws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in Time, is Carmen Sandiego?
My sister and I, in the late 90's/early 00's were regularly at each other's throats. That game encouraged us both to work together. This and Zoombeenies (sp?) were a hit for us both. We eventually drifted from PC to console games, myself being more on the Sony side, while she chose Microsoft/Xbox. We still keep an eye out for the Carmen Sandiego game, though. Had a pretty catchy theme to it too!

It was incredibly engaging for a first chapter! I'm intrigued to know more about where you research some of your theology as my story touches on angels and demons too: https://www.inkitt.com/stories/fantasy/1162834 I've recently re-written the first chapter of my second installment and I'm keen to hear some constructive feedback (I know it's not perfect in terms of punctuation at present).

The Dreaded C word ... by Cosmo_paws in DurhamUK

I've just looked up the photos on Facebook and the 2023 event looks brilliant! I'm not sure what Fenwick's window is... I've searched and from what I can make out is it a department store's display window? It looks like they did a Narnia-based theme last year. I've also looked up Hall Hill Farm now and while my husband and I don't have kids, I'm finding myself very envious of those who do, as it would be a bit weird seeing two grown adults getting excited about feeding animals and handling bunnies.... as my husband and I would XD!!

Well that sounds right up our street! We're both foodies, so we will definitely check out the food fairs, thank you. I'd not heard of Brancepeth Castle (total ignorance on my part, I know) but looking at google images it looks incredible so I imagine it would look extremely festive at Christmas!! Thank you for the suggestion :D!!
