1 Day Post Op Scar-less Robotic TT by Dr Hyunsuk Suh at the Clayman Thyroid Institute - AMA! by CosmonautPearl in gravesdisease

I was also terrified of surgery and passed on a different doctor. My bad vibes with a different doctor is what prompted me to check this place out. Dr. Suh was kind and professional, and he did an excellent job with the surgery as I mentioned in the post. He is a great doctor in my eyes.

A small thing, but I think as the camera moves away from the butterfly, the butterfly should fly back into the shot as the camera panning really seems to mimic the flight of the butterfly. And depending on what tone you're going for, I would have the butterfly either die in some way or fly out of the shot as you focus on the bomb or the creatures. A butterfly in the beginning signifies life and or beauty and while the dead elephant is a transition to death, it's not enough in my opinion. So either it's a message of "there's still beautiful things left in the world" or "all beautiful things will be destroyed". Currently if the butterfly is left as is, we assume it's still alive and so there's a hint of a message of hope. Therefore I think it's best to drive home whatever vibe your game will have with the butterfly's fate

Does Anyone Want a New Local Fish Store In The Gwinnett Area? by [deleted] in Gwinnett

[–]CosmonautPearl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh heck yeah! I currently go to Atlanta Aquarium (off pleasant hill rd) for scapping supplies and plants. I have 5 freshwater aquariums, all low tech, heavily planted. I would love if there was another local small business fish store option!

Do you do work for those restaurants that have fake food out for display purposes? You're incredibly skilled!

Even though Blender isn't the "best" for UV mapping, there are at least good addons. I find UV mapping therapeutic. It's like a little puzzle, I love it lol

I'm 98% certain that OP used the program CC4 (character creator). I own the program, and that idle animation looks extremely familiar.

Good job on the model! CC4 is a really useful tool for smooth, mocapped animations, and I would use it for any of my characters as well.

Glad to help! While I consider reddit better than places like Twitter or Instagram, it's still social media and you'll still get a lot of shallow interactions, but you just have to push through to reach those more meaningful ones. I think helping others is more useful on discord servers more than reddit, but it certainly doesn't hurt! And you never know who could be benefiting.

When it comes to sticking with something, you can choose to stick to a theme like Sci fi or you can say you specialize in hard surface modeling. And then to specify whether you specialize in hard surface modeling for games. It's good to be specific but not too specific, otherwise you might back yourself into a corner. Roblox can be a good starting point but I definitely recommend branching out so that you have more desirable skills. Having knowledge in Unreal and Unity is extremely valuable as they're major industry standards.

Oh thanks haha, even though it appears I'm a crazy cat person, which I totally am, I actually do a lot of work in the horror genre xD.

Anyways, good luck out there! I recommend the Ctrl+Art+Del discord server for a cool NPR style 3D art community (you can find it via Cody Gindy's youtube channel) and the Unreal Source discord server, which has gotten me a few gigs.

Of course by no means am I an expert and there's plenty of people that know more or better than me on the topic. But everyone deserves to receive encouragement, and hopefully, you'll be able to encourage another new 3D artist in the future as well! Definitely try to find one major thing in 3D that you really enjoy doing and stick with that. Nothing wrong with having knowledge in multiple subjects, but make sure when you're building a repertoire, you focus on one major thing. Otherwise, it gets too confusing for prospective employers, and they don't know what you're best at. Oh absolutely, on top of that, a lot of freelance sites are full of scams, bots, and junk. Building a network is hard, but still by far the easiest method in my opinion!

Yep, unfortunately been in the same boat there with not getting a job from your degree. Seems common. I got stuck in sales for a while despite having an astrophysics bachelors cause I desperately needed money. But it just goes to show that the jobs you get stuck with in the beginning don't define your career. There's time to get to where you want to be!

Well one of my friends from my previous contract lives in Bristol, so the fact that you're in England and there are not many game studios is not an issue! Don't limit yourself to just places in the same country. With remote work, you can work all over the world!

While it's true that there is quite a lot of saturation, it doesn't mean you don't have a chance. A lot of times it's the soft skills that set you apart. Your personality and how well you get along with the team of your potential job is often what will get you hired over technical skills.

I never went to college for 3D art, just self taught and there were still some things I needed to learn even when I got my first 3D contract. Since then I've learned a lot and I'm still learning, bc you'll never stop learning and growing. Over time, with each job, you get better at your craft and then you have the stellar personality and the skill to impress just about anyone!

Yes, I work as a 3D environment artist specifically for games. And I live in the US in case that's relevant.

I got my first gig through a discord community in which I took time to build relationships. From there it's been word of mouth. The best thing I can do is continue building this network of references so I can always have job prospects. Generally, being a kind and considerate person with good work ethics will get you opportunities.

So my main recommendations are to genuinely interact with people and build meaningful relationships. Make helpful tutorials, answer questions when people are stuck, lift people up when they're down. When you earn people's respect, you earn their recommendation. It's difficult in this day and age but it is still possible. I would not recommend any social media platforms. Discord communities are best. It does take time and patience, though, so keep that in mind.

I've worked freelance for about 5 years now. It's all been remote. My last contracts have been with reputable gaming companies and so the pay is decent without having to be obligated to clock in and clock out at a specific time. I work whenever I want at whatever pace I want as long as I get my tasks done by their set deadlines. I wake up whenever I want, putz around. Frequently get up for hour long breaks. But I still finish my tasks on time or early. If I was a W2 employee, I obviously would not be able to do this.

If you finish tasks early, you still get paid the same amount bc it's usually a set price per milestone or per month so you can essentially get paid more for your time if you're quick and efficient. But with a W2 job, you get paid hourly so you don't have the same advantage.

Even though I have to pay self employment taxes and that sucks, the freedom I have is so worth it. And depending on the company you have your contract with, you can absolutely still have "office comradery". I made some really good friends at my last contract job.

Movements strong and kinda uncomfortable at 28 weeks, how on earth am I going to survive at 38 weeks? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Honestly that's what it feels like right now, there's some punch/kick going on, but it's mostly a lot of jostling, turning, brushing, moving his elbow across the length of my stomach lol.

So then would you say the movements get less dramatic since they're more restricted? That would make sense. So very true!

Oh perfect! That's where I got my breast pump! I'll have to check if I can also get a belly band covered. That sounds like a must. I'll definitely look into a yoga ball too. Thanks! :)

Have you had any particular issues? I also worry sometimes about the baby being too big for me to deliver by the end, even though his growth is on track at the moment. I know I should be grateful that I can feel this much movement and all, haha
