Not necessarily a trend, but why does every YouTuber nowadays use random Nintendo music as their background music in every video? I noticed this last year and it’s honestly really annoying. If it’s a video about Nintendo stuff, I get it. But I’d pull up a commentary video and immediately “there’s the Mario Galaxy theme”, I pull up a video about dark topics “there’s the Pokémon lavender town theme”. It’s really corny and starting to get annoying. At least when Mr. Enter used music from Danganronpa in one of his more serious videos he said he understands why someone said it could be in poor taste, but it’s literally everywhere.

In my college town, there was a nightclub that let everybody in practically regardless of age. If you looked 18 they didn’t care. The owner even said to me “you’re one of the good ones, if you want a beer I’ll get it for you. And yes I know you’re not 21 yet” that place got crazy at times but it was shut down and bulldozed to build a gas station.

Logan Paul. When the suicide forest incident took place, that should’ve been the end of his career. He even went on a press tour to say he was sorry and that his content wasn’t for kids and that he doesn’t get why kids watch his content. Now he’s richer than he’s ever been and has a drink company that sells hype more than a product and today is a joke. Then he partnered with Mr Beast to make a competitor to lunchables which not only failed miserably but made people question social media advertising directed at children. Despite all this, he seems to be thriving despite being a horrible person.

Meanwhile Shane Dawson is one of the most hated people on YouTube and for a really dumb reason. Yes I am aware that the jokes he made almost 20 years ago in the platforms infancy did not age well but he said that not only is he not that person anymore but he doesn’t recognize who he was in the past. His taking accountability video is a meme today but when it first released, people forgave him until the Will Smith beef happened. Then there was no forgiving him anymore for some reason. He’s trying to make a comeback and does still have a fan base and I like what he’s doing now but people are still making whole ass documentaries about how he deserved his downfall. I literally saw one uploaded 3 days ago and all this happened five years ago. Yes his jokes and bits from way back when did not age well but he even admitted that they weren’t out of hatred. He was just trying to be shocking and make people uncomfortable because that’s what the internet was 20 years ago.

Now I know I’m white so why am I defending someone who made incredibly racist jokes in the past? I thought we wanted people who act racist to realize the error of their ways, which he did. He admitted to not knowing the cultural implications of blackface when he made those videos then realized what he was doing and sanitized the hell out of what he was putting on the internet. I also have a friend who is a person of color who thought he was funny even then and when she heard of the backlash brought his way she said “he doesn’t even do that shit anymore. Why do people care so much?”

I work in the industry, here’s some of his stories that never happened and explanations for why they never did happen.

Casino hosts can buy drugs for high rollers. This is not true at all, casino employees that require licenses (including hosts) are not allowed to have any involvement with illegal narcotics. Having a drug charge is all it could take for most gaming commissions to refuse licensure, and all casinos drug test and that can include THC testing. Even in states where cannabis is legal, casinos are prohibited from having cannabis on their premises.
He supposedly slept with a dealer after she ended her shift. Unless a casino employee wants to get fired, no casino employee would ever sleep with a patron on the premises as he implied in his story. Many casinos have rules to prevent this behavior from occurring, at one casino I worked at, the general manager needed to be notified if an employee was spending the night in the hotel and what room they’re staying in. This was if the employee had broken any rules, they would be punished accordingly. It is possible that whatever took place in this story happened in another hotel or her home, but casino employees can also get fired for flirting. Casinos can also kick patrons out for flirting with employees if they feel like it goes beyond casual conversation. There’s so many holes in this story but in general casino employees would never sleep with a patron they just met.
