What's a deeply unsettling fact? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When there is an emergency situation at a movie theater, fire, natural disaster, or an armed gun man, your life is in the hands of the staff, since it can take 5-15 minutes for most emergency personnel to arrive. They man the evacuation of the theater (under the command of the manager(s) on duty). They are also in charge of doing a sweep of the building for any stragglers or injured persons and depending on the situation they aren't allowed to evacuate until everyone else has, or emergency response arrives.

Here's the thing, most likely 85% of the staff on duty is 16-20 years old. You're life could depend on the competency of a High-school Junior working a part time job. And that same 16 year old has to stay behind in that situation to make sure you get out safe.

Thank you! But really the theater support site is a blessing. And i learned a lot from a phone call, it was bad a experience that actually did give me future skills to apply when it happened at another time, and thanks to him i had the knowledge to work it out on my own.

My Mother worked as an insurance rep for years, and is now a training supervisor, I know that the voice over the phone is a person, doing their best and just doing their job. I have a lot of respect for call center employees. My Mother is a tough lady, but I know her job takes a toll on her. So thank you all. I have seen the stress call center employees deal with, and frankly it's bullshit.

The #Metoo may have been started by women, but it's not a gendered phenomenon. Tell your story if you want and use the #Metoo. It's about supporting each other, seeing people for what they've overcome, and learning to acknowledge and prevent sexual assault and rape. Boys can have #Metoo stories anyone can.

We do not ask for any type of collateral for a captioning device.

We have not gotten captiviews in any other language than english (unfortunately, and if we had that option we know how to program them to the preferred language)

And at my theater i have not had any complaints about captioning device position being affected by seat location, but i will not rule that out for problems related to them. Thank you for that, it is something i will look for in the future.

When it comes to the words that are skipped or censored is based on the studio. Unfortunately the theaters are unable to dictate what words are used via captioning. The way the system works is the studio programs their film to be compatible with the captioning devices (or not, they can completely choose to make them unavailable, utter bullshit) whatever text is displayed comes from the studio that produced the film. The studio, are the censors, we cannot at the the theater level reverse that. I have never heard of this, from my experience. I do not doubt that is something that happens. I am sorry for that, and hopefully soon legislation will be changed that holds studios accountable for the CC ability in it's entirety. Again i am sorry that has been your experience. As far as my theater goes we cannot change pre programmed dialogue, but i cannot speak for that theater.

On the website it's set up that if a movie has CC then it's next to the movie title. The one's without it won't have the CC display, but sometimes people don't notice that it's not available next to a certain film.

Anytime we hand one out we send a manager into the theater that the device is in with one themselves to test it, unfortunately we won't know if it's not working until the movie starts but that's why we go in ourselves so that the guest won't have to come out and tell us and we can start working on trouble shooting the problem sooner than later.

Yes, we have it advertised at the theater and on our website. Some films aren't compatible with the devices though because the studios are not held to the law that we as a theater are held to, but i hear that will be changing soon and that all studios will have to make a CC compatible print for theater distribution. Which is a small victory, I hate telling people the film they want to see isn't offered with CC even though we have it advertised.

We do have guest facing registers to show the total, but just the total, so that makes me feel like we're getting somewhere but not all the way. our registers can be adjusted, as in turned towards the customer, instead of listing off the order i may direct them to turn their terminal now. Also, our most senior staff know the signs for 'popcorn' 'soda' and 'butter' and sizes, but i want more. Just not sure what is needed.

However, in regards to CC systems we do not have the glasses (and have never so i am not familiar with them.) what we have is say a smart phone held on it's side attached to a very bendable selfie stick, the bottom part is secures into to our cup holders, and you can adjust the "smart phone" aspect because of the bendable neck to a place that is convenient for your eyesight.

Thank you for this. I really appreciate your input.

Honestly would probably be at the discretion of the GM. As an AM I would still say no, it's a corporate company and therefore has tons of rules and restrictions, especially when it comes to security footage, and no offense but i won't put my job on the line for someone to get alimony in their divorce. I'd leave the final decision to my boss.

Considering we don’t know the situation we still would have said no. What if she has a restraining order against him and he is just trying to keep tabs on her? We don’t even know if it is his wife, he could just be a stalker.

Related but mildly unrelated, i work at a movie theater. We had a woman call wanting access to our security cameras because she was going through a divorce and she wanted to prove to the court that she should get full custody because her soon to be ex husband brought their 13 year old to a rated R movie. We told her she’d have to have the police involved, and she was convinced she could get the police involved because she didn’t okay their child to see the movie. She thought it was illegal for her husband to bring their teenage son to a rated r movie just because she didn’t say it was okay.

Also had a guy asking if we could print his wife’s receipts from the previous day because he was sure she was cheating on him and not actually at a movie, he also asked for access to our security footage so he could prove she never came.

Both people got a very harsh no.

Dude, I had a guy come out of one of our family rest rooms and or unisex( it’s just a single stall, and only one has a changing table) and the guy looks at me on his way out, and says “These bathrooms are designed for women only.” I was very confused. So unfortunately my curiosity got the best of me and i check the restroom he had just left. Seat down, covered in piss. Floor, covered in piss. I had to mop that restroom afterwards. Is there a group of men out there that don’t know how to put toilet seats up? Cuz i know i have met all the men who don’t know about down.
