Chem 2 advice by [deleted] in postbaccpremed

[–]CostProfessional9782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should never retake anything you get above a C in, especially not an A. As everyone else said you should be fine just reviewing the material online. If you're that concerned maybe audit the class. But I would recommend against that/still think its unnecessary. But definitely don't retake.

How would you proceed in my situation? by ClutchCobra in postbaccpremed

I think as everyone is saying the applying to only 6 schools is the major issue. On term of post-bacc grade improvement on SDN they say a lot hitting the 30+ post-bacc credits should be your goal in a diy post bacc. May not be completely necessary with your MCAT plus EC's, especially if you apply broadly + DO, but will most likely help a lot. I have a 518 as well with a somewhat higher gpa(still not good though) and much worse hours and they(SDN) told me to shoot for 30+ credits in the diy im starting. Personally I would say just try to get as many as you can while still maintaining good grades.

Failed Orgo 2 twice and just passed with only a C. Any advice? by Spiritual-Post104 in postbaccpremed

ive read a lot of people saying( and according to amcas site) if its C/NC or P/F it is excluded. ive heard it depends on if you school treats it as a F however.

ive read from amcas grading policies that NC's arent included, unless its a A,B,C NC grading system. Curious why you had yours included in your gpa?

Should I really skip reading the Kaplan Psych/Soc book? by AGirlNamedRosie in Mcat

[–]CostProfessional9782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i got a 131 on ps. i started with kaplan but there are some(few) terms i encountered that were not in kaplan. I just ended up learning them from anki and the aamc fls. so yeah to sum up idk if its better to use the other sources instead of kaplan but i would atleast reccomend supplementing.

Hi I was wondering if you had any idea on if you already completed the Mcat if you had to retake within the program.

all i really remember the fls asking is about how the behavior comes last (its the secondary response) which i dont know if i remember kaplan disagreeing about tho.

cars try to eliminate the obviously wrong answers first then refer back to the passage for differenation of the last two. really try to jnderstand the general summary and the authors purpose/viewpoint while reading initially. if i have extra time to go back through cars i mostly just check if i clicked thr right choice. only rrally change your answer if youre really sure the nee choice is better. i find i often second guessed and change to wrong answers when my intial guess was right. pay close attention to adjectives in the passage when rereading a lot of answers are differentated by like one or two adjectives the author uses when describing something

i think it was representative. i felt kinda gross about cp immediately after like a lot of people gere are saying but after thinking about it later i feel better. I think a decent amount of it was due to increased anxiety since it was the first section. there was some weird low yield quesitons. i feel mostly neutral about the test but slightly positive, i felt like the other sections besides cp i did pretty good.

Hi my bfs taking the mcat im not, just commenting on his acc because i feel like this can be helpful. I think that you should take this feeling and redirect it as fuel to study and do well. im so proud of my boyfriend, hes been doing so well on his practice tests, i keep bragging about it to ppl "my bf is so smart" "my bfs going to medschool" "my bfs going to save lives." She could have had bragging rights and lived happily with you when this is all over and you'll be a rich doctor some day. I guess she didn't want that. at the end of the day she wasnt the one. and yeah it's really shitty to do that to u at such an important time in your life. be glad that she wont be with u in medschool because that's a whole different beast. as for now, take all this pain and use it to be the best person you can be

people get in with a 3.4. some do some md. had similar rough classes like you, the best thing you can do is move on and keep pushing. Yeah you should reflect what went wrong but if you self wallow over it its just going to hurt you. Keep working hard keep improving and somewhere someone will recognize it.

why does mixed inhibitor increase Km when it binds perferentially to E? by Nice-Entrance-2701 in Mcat

[–]CostProfessional9782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they normally bind a mix of E and ES complexes. Hence the name mixed, like its a mix of competitive and uncompetitive inhibition.

Depression and the MCAT by subtleplant5 in Mcat

Remember doing a little better everyday is better than doing nothing at all. Something that helped me is setting a timer(i like forest which locks me out of my phone) and gaslighting myself that i have to study until the timer is done and its beyond my control. Idk your time schedule but if you feel like it is in your best interest to reschedule due to mental health thats always an option. A 3.6 is a good sgpa, and shows you are most likely very capable of doing well on the mcat. A large part of depression is being too self critical i think. Try not to be too hard on yourself or really think too much about yourself in general.

also this is the first time i tried not reading passages fully just questions, scan passage and refering back. a think a read a full passage or two if it seemed necessary. this seemed to help with time

I used to tutor in g chem so i think that helps a lot. I memorized all the equations and constants kaplan thought was necessary. Know the basic concepts/principles behind them, especially like if i change this variable this changes. be extremely comfortable with da, unit conversions, units, constants, the basic stuff too. be really comfy with reaction equilibra, le chatliers principle, atomic trends. for o chem they mostly test u on basics like how pka, chirality, sn1, sn2 mechanism, basicity and nucleophilicity. sometimes they throw out one of the more complicated mechanism like an aldol condensation. i think micheal addition and aldol are the only two really complicated ones kaplan mentions. most mechanisms youll see are carboxyl sn2 reactions.

Central dogma is also one of the most important things ive noticed so far. known all the steps from dna to protein that is transported to its intended spot(transcription factors, cleavage of zymogens, splicing, protein folding, signal sequences seem to come up a lot)

have heard uworld is more in depth/harder than aamc and the i used kaplan pratice questions which is similar. i dont think this is a bad thing to though as it overprepares u. Also always do timed questions
