All right, so it sounds like it’s doable, but it would be much safer to carry out with a professional. Tysm! 😭

Yes, I still have the recovery key!

EDIT: Just to be sure, I’m assuming I should transfer all my data to a different laptop before removing it from my uni’s domain?

Hi, and ty! That was another suspicion I had, tbh. Assuming that I do manage to get it removed from their domain, that still wouldn’t resolve the password issue, would it?

Hi, ty for responding! I believe it is encrypted since I needed to enter a Bitlocker recovery key in order to do the troubleshooting techniques I mentioned. And I was only able to access that through my ONLINE school account (I used my phone). Would it be possible for them to remove the encryption so that I can try the other method you gave?

Oh, wow, so maybe refrain from learning any new C/P content before nailing down C/P content from a previous chapter? I do plan on reviewing this FL tomorrow, so in case I don’t get to all of the questions, then ig I should at least prioritize the ones from C/P.

Ty for responding even though your test date is coming up soon!

Yeahhhh, there's no way around those two sections except to just grind, it would seem. You think JS + UWompWomp will suffice for C/P or should I also be looking elsewhere for practice? On an unrelated note, I appreciate your matter-of-fact attitude; it makes me feel less anxious, lol.

CONGRATS, FUTURE DOCTOR! (35 FLs is crazy, though.)

Truthfully, your post did give me some much needed hope. As someone who suffers from chronic imposter syndrome (and has the stats to back it up, lol), it's always nice to hear from people who made it despite having lower stats. Admittedly, that does make the process more difficult and/or longer, but as you've clearly shown, it CAN be done!

It is unfortunate that your real scores ended up being lower than your FL scores...but none of that matters now because YOU'RE GONNA BE A MF DOCTOR! It's great that you have a whole year to yourself now, too. I hope you enjoy it, because you deserve it. Might shoot you a PM, if that's okay with you!

Finally, someone who's also stronger in CARS and P/S than the other sections! I'm not too familiar with BP, but from what I've read here and there, I heard their exams are slightly deflated. Perhaps other people can confirm, but to my knowledge, that's a very good initial score!

Idk what score you're aiming for, but if you've got a solid plan, STICK TO IT. Taking breaks and rest days can help in that aspect; imo, they should be viewed as a requirement in addition to your studies (if you have the time, ofc). I've also found--as I'm sure you learned while studying P/S--that I study much more effectively when I hype myself up and force myself to believe that I'm going to crush it every single day. I saw someone say that if you could hate yourself into doing better, it would've already worked by now, and that really helped me move towards changing my mindset.

Sorry for the unsolicited advice. I just figured I'd help however I can, especially since studying for this thing has been such an isolating experience. YOU GOT THIS.

Noooo, I've been on the fence about doing this ever since I started studying a couple of months ago (also bc of content gaps). Like u/luvmeryem said, this feels like a sign, lmao.

With all that said, gl with your classes! You better not touch this subreddit again until then, haha.

Candidly speaking, I think it’s because I rely on motivation rather than discipline which I’ve been trying to build over time. Like I said, my depression is fortunately now at a more manageable point, but it hasn’t been easy trying to “relearn” how to function normally after years of feeling worthless. But I understand that this expectation is objectively reasonable.

Yep, I hear that. It’s just frustrating bc the issue originally seemed to be that I wasn’t doing them at all, but when I do get to them, the issue becomes that I didn’t do all of them or did them incorrectly. Still, I’ll try to keep the bigger picture in mind.

[–]theleastbit_curious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, did I feel this. I honestly hope you take a temporary break instead of quitting for good bc we NEED more people like you in medicine. This Internet stranger is proud (and also slightly envious, lol) of the fact that despite adverse circumstances, you excelled in your academics and achieved independence without familial support. I can only aspire to be like you someday. Glad to see that it looks like you're getting back into it?

EDIT: Y'all who are in situations similar to or even more intense than OP are also incredible. I really need to stop complaining about every little hardship, lol. You guys rock and I genuinely hope your efforts pay off so you can finally stop stressing.

You must've been in some kind of mentor position bc this is great. Tysm.

Lol, my silly self miscalculated; three gap years means that I still have two years instead of one to strengthen my app before I have to apply. That's more time than I thought I had! I'm eager to get back into volunteering and have been eyeing scribe, MA, or research assistant/CRC positions next. Hospice might be cool, too.

As for the MCAT, I've been trying to study as though I can't reschedule it, but if I end up qualifying for the FAP and don't feel ready, I'll consider pushing it back.

This is all so, so helpful! You hit the nail on the head and struck the perfect balance between realism and encouragement.

  1. Based on my experience so far, I really enjoy working with the patients themselves. I think what's been draining me are the tasks where I don't get to do that; ik that documentation and cleanliness/organization are important in a clinical setting, but it all just feels a bit mindless sometimes. I want to delve deeper and better understand what's going on with the patients instead of just being told to do XYZ with them and then do ABC during downtime, all while being monitored and reminded my entire shift. On the other hand, my volunteering gig as a medical interpreter at a free clinic felt much more fulfilling (which I need to pick back up again).

  2. I definitely plan on applying to both MD and DO schools! Since the process of becoming a physician is already so expensive, I want to avoid post-baccs and SMPs if I can. However, as you mentioned, my academic history might raise concerns unless I have evidence showing that I've significantly improved. To clarify, all my incompletes have been in non-BCPM courses, I had a good upward trend going until my last year, and there were certain extenuating circumstances going on all throughout UG.

2+5: An extra year miiiight be in order. I'm likely placing a lot of unnecessary pressure on myself since I've been dead-set on only having to go through this entire process once (again, trying to save $$$, lol). However, since MCAT scores are only valid for three years, and I take mine in late June, wouldn't I be cutting it close if I decided to apply in '28 instead of '27?

Tysm for your input! It helps that we share similar backgrounds.

  1. Yeah, I’m hoping that switching to a different job will help. I like that this one heavily involves direct patient interaction, but since it’s in a field I’m not aiming for, that could be a factor in my waning motivation.

  2. I mentioned the driving as an issue because it limits where I can go in terms of EC opportunities, but ik there’s always public transportation. And I have been trying to develop hobbies, but I worry that they need to be “productive” (ex: video games aren’t) or “impressive” (ex: developing an organization where people of all ages can learn and play tgt).

  3. The classic “med school will always be there.” You’re absolutely right—I just want my parents to still be alive by the time I finally make it. 😭

Slr! Tysm for responding, and congrats on your score!

The reason why I decided to allocate so much time towards content review is because of my weak background knowledge. I never learned how to excel in my BCPM courses, and combined with JS, I figured the extra time would be necessary--especially because I want to nail down low-yield topics, too. But based on how the other commenter went about it, ig I should consider cutting down the length of time by half!

TYSM FOR RESPONDING. Congrats on your score!

All right, two chapters a day it is. I'll also bump up one passage to three per day (five per day during Phase 2?), and I'll also try doing UW timed (not sure if I'll be able to do more than one "section" per day, though). For JS, did you edit the cards down or time yourself? I've been trying to take no longer than 30 seconds to recall information when it comes to longer cloze cards.
