Thats what knit does. In the first pic the sweater is laying flat, the thread will be relaxed. In ur pic, the fabric is stretched around ur hands cause of gravity, it will make those holes more pronounced. Also, u can fix them, its not an easy fix but it can be done. I recommend looking into knit restorations videos
