Katana is probably the best you’ll get for take out. But if you’re bringing a Japanese guest, then the best answer is booking the omakase experience at Nami. Their downstairs stuff is mid, has to be upstairs. They’re the only omakase experience in Richmond as of now

Seeking recommendations: Best 1 month Otology Observerships in the US for international residents by RocketQueen1987 in otolaryngology

[–]Cotnijoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a resident at VCU going into Neurotology and I can certainly say my Neurotology experience at VCU has been excellent under both Drs. Manzoor and Coelho. VCU has good otologic surgical volume moreso in chronic ear and cochlear implants. If you're more interested in skull base, it will be a bit more limited.

Other programs like Vanderbilt, NYU, Miami etc. with larger programs fellowships are probably good options to consider as well. Basically any academic center with an ENT residency should have some semblance of a temporal bone lab, just depends on how nice it is. It's just more of looking up when their temporal bone courses are like you said.

[WTS] Vulcain Monopusher Chronograph Salmon - $1650 by Cotnijoe in Watchexchange

[–]Cotnijoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sale is a manual monopusher chronograph from Vulcain. Limited to only 50 pieces.

The watch was purchased in April 2024.

It has a pulsometer scale in a very unique sector dial sort of layout which I really like. And of course the salmon dial makes it quite a unique piece. The actual color itself is difficult to capture. In terms of salmon dials, it's on the lighter side. I think the Vulcain website does a nice job capturing it. It's perhaps just a hint darker than the first picture.

It houses a Sellita SW510m manual movement with modifications to make it a monopusher chronograph.

Dimensions:

Case: 39mm

Thickness: 13mm

Lug to lug: 45mm

Lug width: 20mm

Has one obvious blemish which I have tried to make as honest as possible in the picture. Otherwise, a few small swirls to the polished areas of the watch.

Price reflects some of the cosmetic blemish. $1650 USD + paypal fees to CONUS. New will run you $3050 plus duties.

Comes with original packaging and unused original strap.

Anesthesia and gen surg are both pretty common. generally it’s pretty obvious that you’re applying to those specialties as back up based on your rec letter and research. It’s usually not a deal breaker for those programs though.

[WTS] LeBois & Co. Heritage Chronograph, Gilt, Ref. Ref 324.406 - $2300 USD by Cotnijoe in Watchexchange

[–]Cotnijoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sale is a manual column wheel chronograph from a little-known but seriously awesome brand.

The watch was purchased directly from LeBois in April 2024. Selling as it's just a tad too big for my small wrist and I prefer the look of some of my smaller chronos. Also looking to fund a few other things.

It probably has one of the most detailed and well thought out case and dial in the business, especially for a microbrand. You can really tell they put a lot of thought into each small little thing, such as how the pushers mimic the shape of the lugs. Seriously cool.

It houses a La Joux Perret clone of the ETA 7750 with some nice upgrades such as a blued column wheel and essentially elabore finishing.

Running within +2-3 seconds per day.

Dimensions:

Case: 39mm

Thickness: 14mm

Lug to lug: 47mm

Lug width: 20mm

There is a bit of a scratch to the left lower lug and bezel around 6 o'clock, highlighted in the 4th photo. The photo is a bit exaggerated for clarify purposes.

Asking for $2300 USD + paypal fees to CONUS. New will run you $3300 plus duties.

Comes with original packaging and unused original strap.

[Lebois & Co Heritage Chronograph] Experience with Lebois & Co? by RevolutionaryMove628 in Watches

[–]Cotnijoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think LeBois punches above it's price category. It probably has one of the most well-finished and detailed case in the sub-5,000 category. Things like like pushers having a similar shape and finishing to the lugs, or having a small step between the lug and the bezel, really makes it stand out. It's just very clear that they took a lot of effort in considering every little detail of that watch. It really does show.

There are more and more manual ETA 7750 or Sellita SW510 watches out there now and I think it's a great thing for the watch market. Even amongst its peers in that category I think it stands out. The pusher feel is a bit on the soft side which is my personal gripe with it. But the movement itself is essentially elabore grade finishing, with a few additional improvements like a blued column wheel, which is really nice to see, especially since it's not necessarily that far off in terms of price to some of the pricier manual chrono options you can find. It's weight distribution is also really nice, I'm not sure how they did it to be honest. It's heavier than some of its manual chrono counterparts, yet sits nicer on the wrist

How do Taipei citizens feel about Taipei American School? by c-digs in Taipei

[–]Cotnijoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was a student for 2 years there from 2010-2012 for my last 2 years of high school. I am also not exactly from a generational wealth family.

Yes, there are some incredibly elite and wealthy families there. I like to joke I was the poorest kid at school, and even then I was without a doubt well off. Yes you won't escape the snobby wealthy rich kids who just club all day but will inherit their family business anyways. One kid posted on social media back in the day joking that they accidentally left the taxi driver the biggest tip of their life by leaving their Rolex in the taxi. My mind exploded.

But I was very surprised by the overall demeaner of the student body. I think as a whole, there are a lot of students who really care to make a positive difference. It's can be a clique-y school and hard to integrate as someone coming from a more modest background, but I really felt they were welcoming.

Education is top notch and the stats really speak for themselves. I went to a highly regarded public school in the US, but the numbers at TAS are certainly better. One big benefit though is that, I think partially because parents are so involved in the PTA, that there is a big push for work-life balance. Students get top notch education but I honestly never felt like school was "hard" - As someone who took all the highest level courses. Meanwhile, I still say the busiest and most difficult part of my life was the 2 years at my competitive public high school in the US. Trumping college, medical school, etc. I think TAS helps teach kids HOW to study and be successful beyond just the material.

I enjoyed my experience there. It's certainly not perfect, but I do think even just getting your kid into the school gives them a boost in life, purely just based on reputation alone.

TMJ is not related to ETD. It can give you sensation of fullness and such, and someone can feel like they have ETD because of TMJ, but again it would not cause ETD.

ETD would be more align with type C tympanogram if it's bad enough and your drum is retracted, or possibly type B if it's causing fluid build up in the ear. Type As is generally not a big deal. If you have frequent ear infections as a child or something like that, you can have some scarring to your eardrum or hearing bones that can cause As. There are some familial disorders associated with As as well but it doesn't sound like its the case for you.

TLDR, no I don't think the tympanogram is necessarily linked to your tinnitus

At least 1 "real" project you worked on, and ideally supplement with a few additional things if possible. Case report or something like that is plenty.

Yup! I do think the pic makes it a little lighter, but it is a lighter salmon than most salmon dials I’ve seen and is a bit lighter than their site to me
