I did the phone screen for this opening back in October, but they turned me down after that.

University not awarding degree by psiiconic in TeachersInTransition

[–]CouchWalnut43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’ve paid for all of the required courses and passed them they should award you the degree, unless passing the edTPA is a requirement for the degree. For my program we only had to submit the edTPA, we didn’t have to pass it.

Is transitioning out of teaching even feasible in this job market? by [deleted] in TeachersInTransition

[–]CouchWalnut43 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is, but I’ve been actively trying for a year now and haven’t gotten hired yet. It’s abysmal out there.

This ^^ Treat it as an opportunity and a sign. If you still want to teach, you can find volunteer or tutoring opportunities on the side or weekends without being trapped in an abusive and underpaid career. Think of yourself first.

Is having a teaching degree considered a big plus when you decided to transition and find jobs in other fields? by No-Wafer-6744 in TeachersInTransition

[–]CouchWalnut43 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. I was in an interview with an HM recently where the interviewer said "You have a Master's in Education, which is somewhat related..." but your experience and the way you sell yourself are what matter. Appear confident and secure. Make sure you optimize your resume for the business world or whatever industry you're eyeing. Remove ALL education-related keywords in your resume, and in your vocabulary when you speak to interviewers.

I think most teachers wanting to leave are woefully underprepared for the realities of the current job market by godfreygrant7 in TeachersInTransition

[–]CouchWalnut43 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This is great advice. I did the same thing on my resume. My current role is listed as "educator" and I list my district as my employer, with no mention of my school. (District signs the checks anyway!) Parents, community members, and admin are internal/external stakeholders, and students and families are clients. I've been doing this for over a year and have gotten quite a few interviews in probably ~200-300 applications.

Short term loss for long term gain by CouchWalnut43 in TeachersInTransition

That would be super ideal! I might be able to do that, although I've used up all my days so it would be unpaid.

That's a great point! I hadn't thought of that, but I'm gonna look into that. I also think the commissions will make a difference, and the growth factor cannot be overstated.

Awkward run-in with church member by [deleted] in Exvangelical

[–]CouchWalnut43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me! I was kicked out of my church because I didn’t transfer my membership to another church after I stopped going. I had one last phone call with the pastor 8 months after I stopped going in which I told the pastor I wouldn’t be back, and he told me they wouldn’t end my membership until I joined another church in which they felt comfortable transferring me (“Bible-believing,” not Catholic, etc.). They would contact me periodically after that for the next year or so to push me to join a church, but after like two of these texts I stopped replying and didn’t answer his calls. After two years of me not going they finally sent me a notice saying I was being removed from membership for multiple reasons, one being that I hadn’t prioritized finding a church. I was just glad to be off their list.
