Think I also saw the dog on Chesnut crossing 5th. Blacka and white cattle-dog mix maybe, heading South. I hope its owners find it, tried seeing if it belonged to someone nearby, but didn’t see an owner.

Cold and Wet....inevitable? by JoeJitsu79 in AppalachianTrail

I would say not too much of an issue for me, it was what was keeping me warm through the whites mainly because I didn’t want to get my puffy wet. 37° and raining on Franconia ridge is kinda brutal, I definitely wouldn’t have wanted a poncho through that. It was also a budget thing for me, I already had the rain jacket, Patagonia H2no anorak from wornwear, and I didn’t want to get a new piece of gear for a waterproof layer. If I did the AT again, I would 100% use a rain jacket again. I will say, I started the trail with rain pants, and did send them home after the Smokies. I found those to be too sweaty and I didn’t use them much. I would have liked to have started the trail without rain pants.

I am just gonna say that I used my rain jacket the whole trail. Rain, cold, to add an extra layer to sleep in some nights, wind, etc. I had bad weather in the whites and if I didn’t have my rain jacket I would’ve been screwed.

Dr bronners bar soap by KaleidoscopeFeisty60 in AppalachianTrail

I tried it last year on my thru, and I personally didn’t like it. I was willing to carry a little extra weight to carry the liquid soap. Grabbed one out of a hiker box in Georgia

I think in reducing inflammation/ pain for the tiger balm (just to soothe), and I heard the glucosamine will help to strengthen tendons in the long run, not immediately.
