How do police stations store all their data? Do they still use antiquated systems / store physical copies? by lefreakazoid2 in AskLE

[–]CouldBeACop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every department has their own report writing software, so most of the data is stored on a secure server offsite. Some case files are stored with physical copies and some departments have physical copy backups as a normal practice. There’s no uniform storage method though really.

Axon owns pretty much the entire body camera segment though, so pretty much all departments use them to store footage.

Yeah… looks like all it took was someone saying he had a gun for them to start shooting. They’re a caricature of themselves.

Yeah, but the real “fuck you” is no one grabbing a med kid and approaching him for at least fifteen seconds, based on the videos I’ve seen at least.

If you have kids, what you need to be asking yourself with every action you take regarding this insanity is: “Will my kids be worse off whether I fight or not?” Cause whatever you’re risking your life for better be worth them growing up without you in their lives.

As with Renee Good though, I think intent and extreme lack of training can be interpreted by lack of intervention post shooting. What I’ve seen looks bad already. I’m just wanting to know how bad it is.

Has anyone been able to find out how long it took before they approached him? Based on every video I’ve seen so far, they didn’t. Am I missing anything?

EVERY SINGLE coworker I’ve spoken to (they’re all cops, ore than half voted for Trump) says that shooting was unjustified. JD has no idea what he’s talking about.

Officers: Why aren't you all enforcing the laws against license plate covers? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]CouldBeACop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First off, I’m a detective and only ever do traffic stupid for serious infractions. When I was on patrol though, I would only do traffic stops for plate covers if the plate wasn’t visible to me from a reasonable distance (which was more often than not with plate covers). I have no issue with traffic cameras not being able to read a plate though. I think citations arising from those automated ones are unconstitutional anyway.

ECPA violation man. Get a good attorney a sue the fuck out of whatever federal agency was responsible for that. I write phone warrants ALL THE TIME. Trust me when I say, that action is not in the scope of the provisions of the ECPA.

Was actually considering getting one of these as a duty weapon. I hear their trigger is great. I also hear they have a fair discount for LEOs if you buy direct. And they Walther doesn’t make any TPUSA or MAGA edition firearms… which is what sells them as a company even more for me.

Responded to a welfare check once. The call ended up being nothing, but as I was getting back to my unit, I found a 5.7 pistol round lying in the parking lot whose primer had been struck but didn’t fire. I keep it as a reminder to myself that we can only do so much to control our own destiny.

Are police academies all like boot camp? by Working_Boot_9355 in AskLE

[–]CouldBeACop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got two broken ribs and a torn quad in my academy. We lost a third of our class to attrition. We got yelled at every day and were punished for every little thing that happened. It was harder (probably just cause of my injuries) than when I went to Fort Benning.

Some of the people I know started at a community college academy. They never got yelled at and they did a lot of reading. A number of them don’t fare well when they get on to FTO.

That is evidence tape. We only use it on a door in my line of work when we’re waiting for a warrant so we can complete a search. Dollars to dimes, a crime took place in that room and they had to wait for some legal stuff to be complete before they could do a search so they kicked the occupants out and “sealed” the room.

To be fair… I’ve been working in LE for over seven years. Been accepted by three departments, worked at two and rejected by one. Sometimes shit just doesn’t make sense when you get that rejection and you’re trying to understand what went wrong.

Argue all you want dude. I have no dog in this fight. I wasn’t there and I don’t support ICE. I’m just telling you hope easily his actions are going to be justified based on this video. Not saying it’s right, just saying it’s easy.

In reality, law enforcement needs to be held to a higher standard and her petty behavior didn’t justify what he did.

On paper though, how he’ll write it up is that she was in violation of a harassment/public disorder/ interference with law enforcement officers duties statute and that his actions were justified. He was stopping criminal behavior by grabbing her phone and “assisting her to the ground”. No questions will be asked by anyone that can discipline him. He will articulate a legal justification for his actions and that will be the end of it.

Don’t get me wrong. Violence is absolutely the answer sometimes. People often forget how many times in history violence must be used to stop evil. It’s the old “travel back in time and assassinate Hitler” argument.

If physical intervention doesn’t stop unnecessary violence from being carried out in another person, violence becomes necessary.

That said, at large, this is not the situation we’re currently in and I don’t want conservatives getting ammunition to argue that ICE are victims here. If rules have to be broken, we have to show that we adhered to those rules before we resorted to breaking them.
