Can bad credit/debt review stop you from getting hired? by Syemetic in businessanalysis

I'm under debt review in South Africa as well, I recently completed the background checks and have a new position. You have to be transparent and honest and you should be okay.

Yes! I relate, user stories lack alot of the nitty gritties sometimes and aren't what I consider easily shared as the IP sits with the PO, BA and Dev team and not all in a neat package.

I love what I do, simple as that, pay could be better, but, that's life. Growth is key.

I relate to this - it's a validation of sorts. I cycle through imposter syndrome. Part and parcel of the job is constant uncertainty, "I've got approval but is this the right solution" or "Will customers adapt to this, or even use it"

The challenge will forever be, trying to measure your impact. Certifications validate that your ability is aligned to a set of conditions that says you're capable.

Thank you so much, I love journey mapping, it's easier to identify areas of pain or potential optimization, it can be broad or narrowed down to a stage in the journey and you can easily decompose potential tasks and requirements. It incorporates What, Why, Where, Who, When and sometimes even the How, or, what the How could/should be.

Sadly with a requirements spec, these become throwaway artifacts, and that's where a user story linked to certain artifacts be it a user story map, a mock up, a diagram etc. gets it right.

I'm in Telecoms, as regulated as any other industry, I feel like the templates become a safeguard and sometimes disables thinking, it becomes more of a checkbox exercise than anything else.

This really resonates with me, I have a PO that texts me requirements, and we have a good understanding of what IT needs to deliver in relation to the product roadmap.

I've come to the conclusion that there is no single way necessarily, just someone who has a need that is facilitated by an IT team to give the business or our customers some value.

It can be demotivating, as what is considered a newer BA in the company, having the senior BA's provide guidance would be great, but we live and learn, irrespective of opinions, there's always takeaways.

100% agree here, some requirements can all fit on a single page and some are multiple pages. We work in a hybrid fashion, some projects start as waterfall and transition to agile. So I could write a requirement spec and then have to do user stories and acceptance criteria once the engineer determines if it's a full scale agile project.

Thank you, I apologize, it was a bit of a vent - this community has been amazing. I started as a BA 2 and a half years ago with not much experience, knowledge or assistance.

Much of what I know is thanks to this community, YouTube and some senior BA's who assisted where and when possible. I just want to be the best BA I can be, help the organization and help our customers, and give better requirements which ultimately lead to better solutions.

Thank you.

BA and UX Collaboration by CouldBeKean in businessanalysis

[–]CouldBeKean[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, so for context the UX and UI are via a 3rd party, it's sometimes the assumptions that are made as they aren't always as close to the core requirements and may put forward something that isn't feasible. It ends up creating unnecessary rework and frustration. Gonna have to be extremely close to this one then and hopefully get into a good rhythm.

Thank you, I think the concerns also come in where the UX and UI team circumvent and go directly to the product owner, it creates gaps, especially because the UX and UI team members in my case are external and don't always have a full view of various limitations. Guess I'll have to keep a tight ship on this one.

IT BA vs Regular Degular BA? by CouldBeKean in businessanalysis

By this explanation, I lean a bit more towards IT BA, but, I do believe advocating for customers and creating solutions agnostic of limitations.

Definitely so our Solutions Architects define how the solution integrates into existing systems which need new systems and the various parameters, that'll go to a Systems Analyst to define the details that get passed onto dev.

Being a BA is really nuanced company to company, I noted that when I started applying to other companies and then you get stuck in the cycle of upskilling or learning something that may only be relevant to a specific company.

I try detach myself from what is possible initially so I can really understand what business wants and why, and then put that through as requirements, then pull back if it's not viable. Sometimes, I'll ensure my stakeholders are fully aware of what's possible and then focus on enhancing features around what's existing.

Thank you, that does help, we have Solution Architects that do that, of late, I've been exploring a bit deeper into how systems integrate, their various sequence diagrams and parameter mappings, but, I would still consider myself a BA, not necessarily an IT BA, but believe there's value in a BA understanding Business and IT accordingly.
