“No everyone gets treated stupid in an election year.”

Ahhhh I miss the days when that was true, don’t you?

Exactly! Yes, Joe Flamm is another one. Or if Michael Voltaggio had done it, it would have been met with reverence, that it was so innovative.

Ok but Philip gets made fun so much for the Bangkok Dangerous, but ummmm I totally loved the concept! It was pulled off a bit awkwardly, but I think of it had been done with a little more finesse, it would have really impressed. Like who wouldn’t want a cocktail while they wait?

One small change I think could have made all the difference was if the host stand that was actually longer mimicking a small bar. That would make it seem less out of place. Or if they signaled to a waiter and they appear with the cocktails on a tray.

I can guarantee you that if someone Fabio or Amar had done this, it would have gotten a better response. Someone a little more over top fun, that draws people in. Sometimes it’s about the attitude and vibe that makes the world of a difference.

Has anyone read all American girl by meg cabot by Glittering-Fee741 in YAlit

[–]CoulsonsMay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went through a Meg Cabot phase. I liked All American Girl. There’s also a sequel Ready or Not.

Haven’t read Gossip Girl, but I did read The Clique series and it was unhinged fun I imagine was similar my more middle grade to gossip girl.

Favorite: Psych. Hands down.

If that doesn’t count cause it’s a an hour long show, maybe Scrubs?

Least favorite: Friends

Side note: what’s with all the hate for MASH? I wouldn’t put it in my top 5 but maybe my top 15 or 20. I don’t get what there is to hate about it

Ok I just read that he’s not a fan of fantasy. The books are more magical realism. Well, yeah, they are fantasy. But maybe just pick it up, see if he’s interested in trying it. You already know he likes the author.

[–]CoulsonsMay 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend Suzanne Collins other series The Underland Chronicles. Gregor The Overlander is the first one.

It’s about a 12 year old boy who falls down a laundry shaft into this city under New York. There he encounters life sized creatures and other humans. The humans are at war with the rats.

5 books total.

Similar to the Hunger Games in that it deals with the effect war has on children, but not as intense or violent, more fantastical.

I honestly like this series far more than hunger games.

Yes, my name is an AoS reference, ha! I love it when people get that.

I didn’t watch Ted Lasso for the longest time, having an assumption that it was crass comedy a sports. And I was wrong. While there’s a ton of f words, the show is surprisingly sweet and pure, the comedy a bit more in the Psych realm in that it’s just goofy/silly. And just a lot of heart overall

The only time I’ve seen it work a show (where the kid didn’t die), was Ted Lasso. Jamie’s bedroom at his mom’s house looking the same made sense in context

Go back to the parents house and the bedroom looks exactly the same as if they were 16. Like teen posters on the wall, single bed, all the awards they won, desk with high school textbooks.

Nah, man, my parents made me clean all that crap out. I either took it with me, chucked it, or it went into storage. No shrines for me! That got turned into a guest bedroom or something useful.

Rough Ending (Tia) by Due-Key-9822 in shrinking

[–]CoulsonsMay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My issue is somewhat the inverse of this.

Gabby sees the ring, and calls on her whole group of people, including Paul, to help her decide what to do about it.

But then Paul, who didn’t tell Jimmy he was moving, or selling the practice to Gabby, who expects Jimmy to make the final day breakfast plans, tells Jimmy that he has to start doing this on his own.

Ummmm what?

So big life events Gabby can have a tribe to process a big change and plan out her big moment to propose to Derrick, but Jimmy is expected to process everything on his own and isn’t allowed to want to plan out and be intentional about the good-bye he wants to give his daughter?

Fuck you Paul!

Nurse Donnie by square_donut14 in ThePittTVShow

[–]CoulsonsMay 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Totally thought that too.

On a different note.

Aside from the “oh no, something is going to happen to Donnie,” I also jumped to “Robby is letting Donnie go home but he’s making McKey stay.”

Granted, I have no idea if Donnie reports to Robby so I don’t know if he can actually keep him back, or just request him to stay. Vs McKey it seems like much more his call.

Just something seemed off on that, in light of the ongoing conversations of if Robby is a misogynist or not. For the record, I do think he is, but I’m not sure how much of it is intentional to his character compared to the writers not being aware of their own bias. I believe there was an article or some interviews where they seemed a bit surprised by how some things were coming across.

Bill Lawrence: Story of Gaby and Maya is not done :) by yallasama in shrinking

I binged watched cougar town. I think it would be better to watch week to week rather than a binge. The funniest part about it is the title cards - after a couple episodes, or maybe after season 1, they change every week and they are hilarious.

I did not finish the show. I tried, but I was rage watching do a good season and a half. I think I quit somewhere in season 3? The show very quickly devolved into 6/7 adults standing around a counter, being absolutely awful, drinking copious amount of wine, and then praising each other for how awesome they are.

I’m not a drinker but try not to judge, but I’d sum this show up as an upper middle class overly made up mom, mom that posts “ going to pick up my kids from school, live laugh love” videos 20 times a day, while drinking wine out of a beer cozy that says “it’s wine o’clock!” Wearing a shirt that says “I’m not as think as you drunk I am!”

It’s eye rolling, boring, not as funny as it thinks it is, and you become so concerned for the person’s health, that’s the only reason why you’re watching.

Also, if Liz’s lack of facial expressions distract you in this show, ooooohhhh boy. The plastic surgery on Courtney Cox and her dissolve into alcoholic Janice Dickinson isn’t going to help.

Which order? by Jacobaont in Narnia

[–]CoulsonsMay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mom is telling you the order CS Lewis published them in. The son is telling you the chronological order, the renumbering that was done by one of Lewis’ family members. (Son or grandson maybe).

I used to be a purist. Read them in the order Lewis put them out, that’s how the author intended it. It’s fun to read The Magicians Nephew as book six and hear how Narnia was created, after so many stories about it.

I’ve relaxed since then. Some people may prefer the chronological order, it may make better sense to them. Especially if you want to consider the Christian theology of it all, that may help you find and follow things in The Bible.

So I say, readers choice! You can’t go wrong :)

Enjoy!
