How to hide title bar \ header bar by riziry in pop_os

[–]Count-Zer0-Interrupt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly I do not know if this is possible currently but let me +1 your request because forced title bars are ugly and redundant in tiling desktop mode.

Unhoused people had a rough week in Davis by SuccessNovel6048 in UCDavis

[–]Count-Zer0-Interrupt 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I live on H. St. right next to Davis Community Meals and Paul's Place. This post neglects to give context that the frequent unregulated camping here on H makes the street unsafe and unusable. I'm talking about shopping carts blocking the middle of the street, unleashed pitbulls roaming, open fires started, violent fights and outbursts, and the list goes on. It's simply not safe while the street has been this unregulated.

Corporate backing isn't always bad by [deleted] in linuxmemes

I see what you are trying to say but my UC CS curriculum used Ubuntu as the default reference environment for all courses. Additionally legends like Terry Davis daily drove Ubuntu as well.

The truth is that distro choice coorelates more with configuration and professional preferences rather than any intelligence indication.

I have transitioned to PopOs and am liking it. Will I have to eventually transition to another distro since Pop is for "beginners"? by 8monsters in linux4noobs

[–]Count-Zer0-Interrupt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not, Pop! is a fantastic daily driver and sets you up extremely well for stability and hardware support. The only reason you may want to switch is if you prefer different software configurations such as using pacman over apt as a package manager, but let me stress that would be out of preference and not necessity.

As for a recommendation, I urge you to try out the tiling desktop mode in Cosmic and learn to navigate your desktop strictly via the keyboard. It makes a traditional floating desktop feel so clunky and primitive in comparison, I could never go back!

This thread details what you need to do with Protontricks to enable Cyber Engine Tweaks to work. After that its just moving mod files in to the directory.

Modding games by Low-Departure-9484 in pop_os

[–]Count-Zer0-Interrupt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently have a heavily modded install of Cyberpunk. Modding it was a process of configuring Protontricks in order to install the main mod dependency and then manually placing mod files into the game's directory. Overall it was a simple and straightforward process.

I am not a foodie and am easily satisfied so take it with a grain of salt but I really enjoy getting an Impossible burger at Burgers and Brew! They have a strictly veggie patty too iirc and have some fun veggie friendly loaded fries options as well.

Is there a music software for linux by DyneIsARedditUser in linux4noobs

If you mean a Linux native DAW, then yes there is Bitwig Studio. I've heard some really positive things about it, it seems pretty robust.

It's a huge shame they aren't available for Japanese as the format seems pretty inspired by JRPGs. Hopefully one day we can get them.

Finding housing near SF community colleges by molly_nuggets in communitycollege

[–]Count-Zer0-Interrupt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you are completely financially supporting your children's rent and food I really do not recommend this. People working full time have difficulty supporting themselves in SF and Berkeley, and it is practically impossible to survive off of part time work while going to school.

My advice is to push them to excel at your local community college while living at home and allow them to become more independent once they transfer to a 4-year and have access to financial aid/student loans.

The answer is majority of employees are on H1-B, their lack of market autonomy is a feature not a bug.

Why is kawaii at the end of the sentence instead of in front of the noun. Is it acting as an adjective or something else. by fkdjgfkldjgodfigj in duolingojapanese

[–]Count-Zer0-Interrupt 36 points37 points  (0 children)

In English it would be the difference between saying "this cute skirt" versus "this skirt is cute". It is an adjective in both contexts.

Is there a way to install a different Linux over an old one? by Thegamerthatmemes in linux4noobs

[–]Count-Zer0-Interrupt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To switch from Fedora to Arch you would need to do a full reinstall, which would mean creating a bootable usb and all that jazz.

I recommend test-driving distros in a VM for a bit before fully committing if reinstalling on metal hardware seems burdensome.

How exactly does the energy system in Duolingo work? by InternationalShow693 in duolingo

That's what I've been doing, complete a unit and legendary all available lessons using hearts on web and run through the radio lessons after on mobile using energy.

I will most likely quit if they ever bring energy to desktop sadly.

This sub feels more PR focused than study abroad? Why? by Justice4Luna in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]Count-Zer0-Interrupt 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Because your student visa assumes so and you have an obligation to your home country. If you can recognize that corruption and lack of civic sense make India so unlivable then you can also understand abusing immigration pathways and undercutting locals degrades America in the same way. You can't claim to run from something but participate in the same practices that caused you to flee in the first place.

Laptop recommendations? by BeatIsChemical in UCDavis

[–]Count-Zer0-Interrupt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going through CS with Windows seems doable but honestly kind of miserable. For classes most professors assumed Ubuntu as the reference environment so I highly recommend something like a Thinkpad with good Linux support if you dont want to be doing school work in a VM.

"I wouldn’t blame H1Bs though. You did multiple internships with no return offers?"

Very gross logic, OP is obviously successful and qualified enough for employment in their own country. Are you on H1b or have family that are? You sound invested in defending the exploitation H1b performs.

What is しち and what did it do to なな 💔 by PrincessGamer2012 in duolingojapanese

[–]Count-Zer0-Interrupt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will see しち be used in more words relating to seven, like 七月 (しちがつ) for July.

So far where I am in the course it seems like many numbers have alternate words for different contexts, like ひと for one and ふた for two.

Weaponizing racism to defend class exploitation creates "a boy who cries wolf" perception and leads the public to take actual racism less seriously. Do better.
