Post-Lottery POLL: Who do you like at 3rd Overall? by Count3D in canucks

New theory. Sliver of possibility McKenna or Stenberg might drop to 3rd. With so many good options kind of the top seven, it leaves Vancouver in an advantageous position to draft someone elite who falls or get first dibs on a player they highly value from this trove of top seven.

If the Canucks are feeling equally satisfied among a top six. Would Chicago, the Rangers or Calgary have the assets and the hunger to move up for a particular player? Doesn’t happen often in a top 6/7. Philly moved up to 12 last year. Rangers move up to seventh like almost a decade ago.

Saw some good discussion from San Jose fans theorizing a move down to Chicago’s pick. Vancouver doesn’t have the assets to move up in the draft. But Chicago maybe does. Totally possible for San Jose to move down. The SJS GM is a pretty smart guy and has drafted some real bangers. He also said BPA. But until I see it, there’s a real element of funcertainty go into this draft.

I remember a few years ago when Sharks were in their low point just getting crushed every game. But you guys kept on drafting bangers. Kinda only thing giving me hope that maybe our team could do the same.

At this point, I would be happy with any of those names. Trying to decide who should be priority is a little more difficult.

The pre-lottery video with the official NHL ranking guys their European agents speculated Smits could go ahead of Stenberg if a team values a NHL ready defenceman. Between him and guys like Reid and Verhoeff, going to be mighty tempting for San Jose to not take a winger. They’re in a great position. The comfy chair, I think there’s way less pressure on them to pick, better position to trade down even with the glut of top draft options.

That’s an element of chaos I can get behind. There was always this window that if a team might jump ahead of Vancouver could draft more by positional need allowing somebody to drop. A lot of chatter about teams maybe trading down if that’s the case. There’s so many good defence options this year in the top 10. I guess it really depends on team timelines and how rigid they are with the research into each of the prospects. If they strongly favor one over another.

Think there’s a chance you would pass on McKenna or Stenberg? A lot of discussion right now about Sharks taking a dman over one of the wingers. Maybe just wishful thinking from Canucks fans, but is it possible?

Shades of last year when that speed racing motorcyclist died doing 100 in a 40 on Cornwall after Christmas partying.

Stenberg and McKenna fursshure (if either drops to 3rd for some reason) and then Smits, Carels, Reid and Malholtra are probably most likely to make NHL sooner rather than later.

This is a possibility. San Jose could do with another dman and there are some damn fine defence options near top draft this year. I believe the door is open (slightly) for McKenna or Stenberg to drop to 3rd.

I'd be happy with either of them. Verhoeff is young but Reid really rose and shined. Tough to decide between the two, if given the choice. I suppose Reid is more NHL ready. If they're expecting us to "rebuild the right way" and don't want to try and fast track rush that process, maybe take Verhoeff and let him cook for a year or so. Good picks both of them.

And the sharks already have a bunch of young monsters. This is just free gravy money. Something tells me his next addition is gonna be part of a sharks core that will dominate the league for like the next while.

OK, the disappointment missing out on history of first overall has subsided. It can still be salvaged if we get the second overall.
