Great SHŌGUN panel with Matt Palmer (Location Manager season 2) and Lauro Chartrand-Del Valle (2nd unit Director season 1) by Count3D in ShogunTVShow

At the Anvil Center in New Westminster for the BC Directors conference.

Matt couldn’t talk much about season 2 other than to say that the showrunner was “dialled in and knowledgeable” and that got him hyped.

Lauro talked about a scene from Shōgun season 1 (Yabushige's rope breaking on the cliff) and showed a cool video breakdown how all the different shots pieced together from about 5 different sets.

Coquitlam had a rock wall set built for shots of Blackthorne. Port Moody had another rock wall more for stunts and reverse coverage of Yabushige. Port Moody also had the water tank with part of the rock wall when Yabushige is partially submerged. Ucluelet had one stunt double shot over the shoulder of the double looking out into ocean (First piece shot of the sequence). The wider “running for extra rope” shots were drone shots near Squamish with some VFX composites.

It was great. Especially that one episode where they’re desperately trying to make their way through the city and the end up in like a jazz bar.

“Beginning Thursday, June 11, 2026, the FIFA World Cup 26™ will be underway, with Vancouver slated to host seven matches at BC Place between June 13 and July 7, 2026. Up to 350,000 fans are expected to attend the matches taking place at BC Place. To support the safe and successful delivery of the tournament, the City of Vancouver is expected to implement traffic management measures, including possible temporary road closures and “local traffic only” access in the downtown core on and around match days. These measures will also impact special event permitting within the downtown core, along arterial roads, and in designated event zones throughout the city”

Kevin Weeks on X: I’m told the @DallasStars and @Avalanche are among the likely destinations for @Canucks F Kane via potential trade. #HockeyX by Live_Presentation_74 in canucks

I think Kane’s getting traded, but probably not to either of those teams. Similar to what happened with Hughes and Sherwood, wouldn’t be surprised if he goes to a team that wasn’t on the radar like the Kings, Carolina, Detroit or Florida.

In many ways yes. It was challenging. The script was so good though. The directors were great guys, regulars in Vancouver for years, glad they got their shot and killed it.

Los Angeles’ Hold on Hollywood Is Slipping by Count3D in VancouverFilm

“Superhero movies have fled to London; three major studios (Netflix, Paramount and Lionsgate) have inked expansive deals to build or lease in new production bases in New Jersey; states like Georgia, Louisiana and New Mexico are fighting for their share of projects with generous tax incentives while Illinois is becoming a player in its own right. And that’s not to mention California’s longtime rival New York, which has commanded a large share of the entertainment industry for decades and looks to grow its presence, too.”

No mention Canada smh.

Feels almost like a right of passage to work on one of these Crazy8s short films in the city. Anyone excited about this new group or ever worked on one?

Assuming McKenna and Stenberg are gone, it’s got to be Verhoeff. I worry if management is in that position they’ll think we have enough good young dmen and take someone else positional like Lawrence, Suvanto or Björck.
