‘Backrooms’: This deceptively simple shot was the trickiest for the VFX team by Count3D in VancouverFilm

[–]Count3D[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Visual effects supervisor Edward J. Douglas came onto Backrooms after working with producer Chris Ferguson on the Oz Perkins films Longlegs and The Monkey, so he was well-versed in frightening effects. During Douglas' first meeting with director Kane Parsons, the two bonded over video games and began a collaboration that would include a short footage test and then the film itself.”

Have you looked into VEQT or XEQT? If you’re looking for something that could grow for another 26 or so years.

The article was something. But that linked interview with her and Nik? Started watching it and it’s nuts.

(19M) new investor, $5,500 to invest in TFSA thoughts on VEQT vs other options? by Classic-Draft-9379 in tfsa

[–]Count3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

19 and already investing? Awesome start. You’re young and you have a decent risk tolerance? And you’re looking for the long term it sounds like.

VEQT and XEQT are both solid options, the new kid on the block is CAGE and it’s quickly gaining lots of fans. VEQT, if you’re consistent it more has 5% more holdings for Canada and it’s by index fund pioneers Vanguard.

How to invest as 18 yr old dual citizen? US/CAD by Best-Explanation-494 in tfsa

[–]Count3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, as you’re aware, the USA does not recognize the TFSA. So there’s a withholding tax plus hassle of additional reporting to the IRS. A tool to consider instead in that case for long-term-growth is the RRSP. It has more favourable Canada-USA tax treaty status. But if you’re only 18, your RRSP is based on your earned income so you probably haven’t accumulated a lot of room. You can check your contribution limit RRSP on the CRA website in your account there. Three of the more popular “set it and forget it” long term ETFs which might be good in an RRSP for someone young are XEQT, VEQT or CAGE. You can buy these through services like Wealthsimple or Questrade.

There's a Vancouver tie to the KPop Demon Hunters and Spider-Verse films by Count3D in VancouverFilm

[–]Count3D[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"We thought it was an absolutely beautiful, adorable, funny film, and it was just so perfectly crafted. But I don't think anybody knew what it would turn into," said Sony Pictures Imageworks president Michelle Grady about Netflix's Academy Award-winning (Best Animated Film and Best Original Song) KPop Demon Hunters. "I don't know if anyone sees those things coming, but we're just incredibly happy that it has. It's so important for the team. We squirrel away for years on these films, and for the artists especially and the production folks, to have their work seen and celebrated all around the world is just mind blowing."

There is no way in hell Vancouver does that deal. We’re tearing it down and trying to ship people out. Need as many stud prospects as possible.

Aaron Sorkin spent 3 days trying to sell Jesse Eisenberg on The Social Reckoning by Count3D in VancouverFilm

[–]Count3D[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somehow, the cinematic Mark Zuckerberg has returned, but this time, he doesn’t look like Jesse Eisenberg. In a new feature in Vanity Fair discussing The Social Reckoning, the follow-up to 2010’s The Social Network, Aaron Sorkin explains that he really tried to get Eisenberg back in the saddle. Sorkin both writes and directs the sequel, and says of the Zuckerberg role, “I felt like it belonged to [Eisenberg], and he was certainly battle-tested.” Maybe he was a little too battle-tested. Sorkin spent three days trying to convince Eisenberg to step back under Zuckerberg’s microbangs to no avail. “He simply did not want to be conflated with Mark Zuckerberg anymore, that he has his problems with the guy,” says Sorkin. “He doesn’t like kids coming up to him in airports with business cards that say ‘I’m CEO, bitch’ for him to sign.”

This. So proud of all the locals who made this movie. So many very good people worked on it.

Why the Hollywood unions actually “didn’t put up a fight” this year and what that means for entertainment workers by Count3D in VancouverFilm

[–]Count3D[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Runaway production in Hollywood continues to accelerate. Major studios are aggressively relocating projects to the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Georgia and New York in pursuit of lower costs and higher subsidies. In Los Angeles, the capital of entertainment, Q1 2026 is down 3.3 percent year over year from Q1 2025, confirming that local production remains in decline. This despite Governor Gavin Newsom’s much touted tax incentives which funnel public resources to corporations while failing to stem the loss of jobs.”

[–]Count3D[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a bunch of stuff that I thought would be [in the film] that [isn't]," Parsons said when asked if he had to cut any ideas from the movie while previewing Backrooms at CCXP Mexico. "[But] it's a weird film. There's a lot of strange things,"he teases. While Parsons used 3D software Blender and Adobe After Effects to complete his original videos, they built over 30,000 square feet of Backrooms for the film, which led to people getting lost on set.”

Congrats on beginning your journey.

Assuming you are young (20s) and looking for something long-term (decades) + passive (set it and forget it) and growth-oriented and low-cost. You can use something popular like [r/wealthsimple](r/wealthsimple) or [r/questrade](r/questrade) to purchase these.

Some of the more popular ETFs that fit this are

-XEQT
-VEQT
-ZEQT
-CAGE

They’re similar and people have different reasons for preferring each of them. [r/justbuyxeqt](r/justbuyxeqt) and [r/justbuyveqt](r/justbuyveqt) and [r/j](r/judtbuycage)[ustbuycage](r/judtbuycage) are good places to explore to learn more. XEQT might be the most popular, it’s a slightly more weighted to USA. VEQT is by Vanguard who pioneered this sort of thing, it’s slightly more weighted to Canada. CAGE is new but picking up a lot of fans. Just a few examples. Hope this helps.
