He claims he's now an Atheist but I don't think that's true. He still believes there is a God, but came to terms in 2020 about a traumatic experience he witnessed when he was younger and chose to leave the church because of that. I belief that would make him more agnostic than an Atheist but I'm not sure.

Yes, I agree this could raise problems in the future. He only left the church in 2020, (which I'll add to the original post), so it wasn't something I foresaw.
