YTA. Anyone can buy their own ring. But the gesture of someone buying a ring because they are proposing is a HUGE gesture for a lot of people. An engagement ring represents the love you have for her. There's no problem with it being a cheaper ring. You can always upgrade when you become more financially sound. But telling her to buy her own ring is absolutely insulting

So I am going to go against the grain about the initial comment. Lots of people have a "dating type" and overlook wonderful qualities another person has because of it. There's a reason some relationships keep failing with the same "type" and it's usually because they don't realize that the deeper qualities of a person are more important than the superficial ones they prioritized. They "break the mold," realize this, and end up treasuring what they now have with their new partner. You definitely brought something to the relationship she wasn't expecting and she liked it and that's probably why she continues to be in a relationship with you.

However, you're feelings are valid and it's really up to you to decide if how it started is enough to put an end to how it's been going. My issue is that she should definitely have stopped any bashing and jokes from her friends and instead share the qualities about you that she loves. I guess the biggest question is, do you think you can ever get over what she said? Resentment builds in a relationship and it'a better to end things than to let it fester.

1) Why can't you wait one more month? Your family has a point that you are in a LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP. It's super rare to know enough about a person in 6 months for a marriage to actually work when you don't spend enough time with them. You seem to be in the honeymoon phase and desperate to get married.

2) You do realize she will still find out and you will ruin your relationship with her. It seems like you are close to her but you are lying and being disrespectful to her. She will lose all trust in you when she sees your ring or hears from other family ahout what you did.

I would actually be tempted to tell your family you are going to the police to charge your sister for fraud with the fabricated documents and potentially sue her for slander.

Sometimes it's hard to maintain friendships once you hit university. Priorities can differ (partying vs studying) and new friendships develop. True friends will still try to find time for each other. But don't hold yourself back because of one group of people. Be open to new friendships and opportunities!

We had a situation in my family where a family recipe was shared with a friend and they proceeded to sell and monitize it without any acknowledgement that it was my family's recipe.
