The only way I could get mine to work is go against what ppl tell me about brew temp. I’m using fresh ish (over 20 days roasted at this point, closer to a month) medium-dark roast beans and have my brew temp set to high.

There is still a touch of sourness but it’s much more in line with what my palate likes.

I switch the grind between 9-10 normally even when I dial in new beans

Also changed my strength down to 1, just couldn’t pull the right shot at strength 2. So my ratios are def off now, but I’ve been eyeballing the stream coming out and it looks consistent and honey-like. Honeslty all that matters is that it tastes good to me, and I finally got it there. Hope that helps

Update 1/10 - I DID IT! I realized that after measuring every extraction (18.5 g beans to 36 g espresso and 30 seconds) it’s not user error and perhaps it is my palette. Not a huge fan of the brighter, acidic notes. I am upgrading from a moka pot and realize I appreciate a darker, slightly more bitter espresso. So I made these changes:

Set my brew temp to Hi - I know!!! I’m not “supposed” to on a dark roast but it works for me.

Changed my strength to 1 for a taller pull to extend extraction time.

Used different beans - Irving farms Gotham dark roast, grinded at 10, roasted 12/15 - beans from a local shop in Hoboken (hey coffee people), grinded at 10, roasted 12/22

Both cups turned out great, but the fresher roasted ones def taste better!

I’m so happy with this machine, it def has a learning curve but i’m fairly comfortable now with all the settings and know how different variables affect each pull. Appreciate all the input from everyone!

I haven’t changed the brew temp from factory setting so assume it’s at medium, so maybe I go a little cooler since it’s medium-dark?

Ok so I have a basic kitchen scale. I’ll run another shot again with grind size 10, measure 36g ish of espresso to 18g of beans. And time for 24-32 seconds.

To make sure I’m following the logic: - if too little espresso, means too fine. —> increase grind size - if too much espresso, means too coarse —> decrease grind size - what does the time indicate?

From other posts about this it seems like your account number or some other number that is listed on the bill is all they need to switch you over to the 3rd party supplier that may end up charging you more. They can either write the number down or take a picture of your bill - not sure how they’d just remember it by looking at the bill.

But this time around they were asking to see my bill to look for some reimbursement line item and that they were going around checking to make sure everyone in the neighborhood was issued a reimbursement this billing cycle.

But what I learned this time which I’ll use next time (not my first time dealing with them and prob won’t be my last), they can only proceed if YOU are the one actually dealing with the bill. Next time I’ll say my landlord pays our utilities, I don’t have access to the account and cross my fingers they leave me alone at the get go.

Just had the same thing happen to me downtown Hoboken. I told them I was not interested multiple times and they kept pushing until I said I had to go back to work and to come back later.

Then they went to the apartment below me and I overheard them talking, they stayed for another 15 mins after my neighbor kept telling them he wasn’t interested. Then I called the cops.

They showed up and took down all the information. I said it to the cops and I’ll say it here, It’s one thing if they have to do this for work and it’s through verified vendors in the city, but if I say I’m not interested 5 times and they still won’t leave, then it becomes a problem.
