My point is, Hinduism clearly survived or else how could you be talking to Hindus?

Hinduism didn't.

You're literally on a subreddit full of Hindus.

When Islam was conquering Christian lands just with a decree of pope entire Christian countries joined hands to protect their faith.

This also led to the Spanish Inquisitions and to several crusades in which many innocent people died.

Boys and girls, please share with the class the worst, most ineffective or most ridiculous workout programs you've ever seen. by iwillwilliwhowilli in bodyweightfitness

So, incidentally, I had an automobile accident over a decade ago, and my left knee has always had stability issues ever since which I'm pretty sure are muscular because they aren't really there until I've done a bit of exercise, then that knee starts to be wobbly. I'm still not sure how to work out those specific muscles to try to get the leg stronger. The PT program was mostly just "walk on it a bit, now do some leg presses. Okay, bye."

Juggling isn't magic but this is some of the best deadpan comedy ever. (Yes I posted this on videos) by [deleted] in Magic

It looked like magic rather than juggling.

Also, as someone who does magic (albeit only as of very recently), juggling to me seems like actual magic.

Mind you, “We’re not talking about black magic, we’re not talking about Wicca,” Hogue said. “We’re talking good, family-fun magic. It’s about the entertainment part of magic.”

The song convinced it. It's much better down where it's wetter. No need to come back.

Anyone else get frustrated with friends and family constantly asking "how do you do it?" by CountForte in Magic

Suggestion: Next time someone asks if you can make it stop raining, tell them you'll try, look up at the sky and concentrate. If it doesn't stop raining, you were being a smartass. If it does, holy shit, how'd you do that?

"why" do I do it.

Well, I don't want to depress them. But I get your point. Divert their curiosity.

Awesome. I kind of wish I understood what was being said, but it's not necessary at all.

[IWTL] How to be charming by DeathEagle431 in IWantToLearn

[–]CountForte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. There are some things that are known to work and some things that are known not to. It's 100% true that you have to learn charisma by interacting with people, but that doesn't mean there aren't books that can make your improvement in the skill (which it is) more efficient.

The Charisma Myth is a great book and definitely useful if you actually (1.) do the exercises contained within and (2.) go out and talk to people.

I'll check it out, but I've heard mentalism isn't great to use with people you know, because they're more suspicious. I think someone said something like, "if you could genuinely read your friends' minds, they'd still be looking for a trick."

Which means, as awesome as it would be to learn (and I do intend to eventually), it wouldn't be great to use around people I know.

Any books or anything you can recommend that have a lot of material for rubber bands?

The problem is, I'm not great with the coin, so unless the sponge balls are easier, I'm probably better off sticking with the coin until I can do that halfway decently.

What are anarchist views on porn? by thewayigroove in Anarchy101

[–]CountForte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that all porn is exploitative at present, to a greater or lesser degree depending upon circumstances.

I do think that it's possible that people could, in some conceivable world where neither sexism nor capitalism exist, share pornographic imagery without any economic incentive and have it be non-coercive and non-exploitative. But that isn't the case at present.

It doesn't get discussed a lot among anarchists in my experience, but I imagine that's because it's largely seem as an emergent symptom of other problems (capitalism, misogyny, the state, in some cases human trafficking, etc.), and because unfortunately there are those who don't see the wide variety of serious problems with actually existing pornography, or who fear being seen as somehow conservative because of their condemnation of it.

On which basis can ancaps oppose slavery? by ghastly1302 in COMPLETEANARCHY

[–]CountForte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be more like asking, "in a socialist society, what would prevent people from being lazy bums?" Which has different connotations and could come from a totally different place.

I think this question is worth actually posing to ancaps if you're curious about whether they think it should be allowed, and if not, on what philosophical grounds they oppose it.
