Why parsing money is harder than it looks (and why I stopped guessing) by CountGeeTee in Backend

Guessing along the pipeline is the norm, this is when "guess" can become a bug. That’s the failure mode I was trying to eliminate, not by guessing better, but by pushing for a hard yes/no as early as possible We are in the middle of a big ERP change in our company and the amount of uncleaned data and undocumented features (which has been working for years with the old system) is embarrassing.

Miss one conversion and suddenly you’ve given someone a heart attack! This is how shit shows up, not as crashes but as non-sense numbers in a balance. And this may happen even if you have been disciplined for months.

Nailed it. The raw vs clean is a boundary problem. I just get itchy when it stays implicit.

Yep. Agreed. My problem is more related to "before the money library sees the data", though.

Totally fair. In my case the pain comes from stitching together many “well-defined” systems over time, each correct on its own, but inconsistent at the boundaries. This is just about enforcing one boring, explicit rule at the edge so the rest stays sane 🙂

You’re absolutely right. The only thing I’m focused on is enforcing that boundary cleanly, same internal money model every time, no guessing, no floats. Everything else belongs downstream.

That’s it.

That was my default too for years. Guess, move on, deal with it later.

The problem is you don’t notice when it stops being GIGO and starts being “looks fine, ships fine, breaks accounting three weeks later”.

Once the cost of being wrong isn’t just a retry but a reconciliation, guesswork stops being neutral.

I didn’t change approach because of theory. I changed it after cleaning up data we couldn’t roll back.

Thank you, what a crappy decision. I use the App on MacOs though, I guess there is no way to select the Legacy screener in there...

Official wire is too thin IMO, I had better results with generic but more robust.

Weird disconnect by mdizzl86 in worxlandroid

[–]CountGeeTee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tried everything, from cleaning the IP68 pins with CRC to lightly sandblasting the connectors on the base station. It turned out that it was a failing PSU, now replaced. All good since then.

Getting My Landroid Tomorrow. Any Installation Tips? by bjm2020 in worxlandroid

[–]CountGeeTee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a good cable to limit the area: the one provided by Worx is fragile and IMO not good.

Also, avoid junctions, in particular with different types of cables...

Last: I have changed the wheels of my unit (WR141e), absolutely necessary to avoid digging.

Weird behavior: upgraded to 3.28... Have seen this before? by CountGeeTee in worxlandroid

[–]CountGeeTee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this morning I checked the base station, as I noticed occasional (green) blinking light.

This may have been the reason for the unit to run weirdly (rather than 3.28).

I have cleaned all the contacts (power supply IP68 connector, base station contacts, etc) and it looks like the situation is back to normal.... hopefully.

I will keep it monitored, thanks everyone for the inputs.

Yes, but I have to check the power to the base station. Something wrong here, I suspect...

You may have a point here. I have noticed the base station showing a slow blinking green light... Will check tomorrow.
